How to Fill Out the Spokeo Opt-Out Form and Remove Yourself

The Spokeo opt-out form at spokeo.com/optout removes a single profile from Spokeo’s public search results once you paste in the profile’s URL, enter an email address, pass a CAPTCHA, and click the verification link Spokeo emails you. The whole submission takes about five minutes, and Spokeo says the listing comes down within 24 to 48 hours after you verify your email.1Spokeo. Spokeo Opt Out Form Each listing has its own URL, so if Spokeo has built more than one profile under your name, you’ll need to run the form once per profile.

Find Your Profile URL First

The form won’t accept anything but a valid profile link, so start on spokeo.com and search for yourself. Spokeo supports searches by name, phone number, email address, and physical address, and it’s worth trying more than one if your name is common.2Spokeo. Spokeo – People Search, White Pages, Reverse Phone Lookup Click the listing that matches you and copy the full URL from your browser’s address bar.

If you’ve changed your name or lived at several addresses, Spokeo may hold separate profiles for each combination. Search under maiden names, former cities, and old phone numbers so you catch every version. Each one has its own URL and needs its own opt-out.1Spokeo. Spokeo Opt Out Form

Fill Out the Form

Go to spokeo.com/optout and scroll to the section labeled “Opt Out Your Listing from Spokeo.” Three things to complete:3Spokeo. How Do I Remove My Information from Spokeo

  • Paste the full profile URL into the URL field. Right-click and paste rather than retyping, since a single character off will invalidate the request.
  • Enter a working email address. Spokeo sends a verification link there, so it has to be an inbox you can actually open. A throwaway address from a free provider works if you’d rather not hand your primary email to a data broker.
  • Click the “I’m not a robot” checkbox and finish whatever image or code challenge appears.

Homepage links, search results pages, and mistyped URLs won’t process. Confirm the URL is a real profile page before you submit.

Verify by Email

Submitting the form triggers an automated email from Spokeo containing a verification link. You have to click that link for the removal to move forward; skip it and the request sits until it expires, and nothing comes down.1Spokeo. Spokeo Opt Out Form

Check your inbox within a few minutes. If the message isn’t there, look in spam and junk. Automated mail from data brokers gets filtered aggressively, especially to new or throwaway addresses. Clicking the link inside is what actually tells Spokeo’s system to suppress the listing.

Check That It Worked

Spokeo processes verified requests within 24 to 48 hours, depending on the amount of data involved.1Spokeo. Spokeo Opt Out Form After a day or two, search yourself on Spokeo again. If the listing is gone, the removal went through. If it’s still visible after 48 hours, the verification click may not have registered; submit the form again with the same URL.

One boundary to keep in mind: removing a Spokeo profile only affects Spokeo. The underlying public records (court filings, property records, voter registrations) stay where they were filed, and every other data broker that pulls from those sources has its own copy and its own opt-out process.

Why Profiles Come Back

Spokeo says directly on its opt-out page that your information may reappear later without notice, because the site continually receives new and updated records from public sources.1Spokeo. Spokeo Opt Out Form Any time a public database updates (you move, buy property, register to vote, appear in a court filing), Spokeo can pull that data and generate a fresh profile. When it happens, find the new URL and run the opt-out again.

There is no permanent opt-out or “do not relist” setting. Paid data-removal services exist that monitor broker sites and resubmit removals when listings come back; annual subscriptions generally run between $20 and $130 depending on coverage and scan frequency.

Clearing Lingering Search Engine Results

Even after Spokeo takes the page down, Google and Bing may keep showing a cached snippet with your name and details for weeks, until they recrawl the URL. You can push that along.

Google

Google’s Refresh Outdated Content tool is built for this and doesn’t require you to own the page. Go to search.google.com/search-console/remove-outdated-content, sign in with any Google account, and paste the URL of the deleted Spokeo profile.4Google Search Console Help. Refresh Outdated Content Tool If the old snippet still shows your details, you may be asked to enter a word from that snippet that no longer appears on the live page. Check the status a few days later; it will read “Approved” once Google refreshes its index. Multiple URLs need separate requests.

Bing

Bing offers a similar tool at bing.com/webmasters/tools/contentremoval.5Microsoft. How To Permanently Remove a URL or Page from Bing or Copilot Select “Outdated Cache Removal” from the dropdown, enter the old Spokeo URL, and provide a word from the cached snippet that no longer appears on the live page. If that doesn’t clear it, Bing’s Webmaster Support portal takes escalations.

A Faster Route for California Residents

California residents can skip site-by-site opt-outs for most brokers. The state’s Delete Request and Opt-out Platform (DROP) lets you send a single deletion request to more than 500 registered data brokers, Spokeo included.6California Privacy Protection Agency. Delete Request and Opt-out Platform (DROP) DROP launched on January 1, 2026, and starting August 1, 2026, brokers are legally required to process deletion requests submitted through it.

To use it, go to consumer.drop.privacy.ca.gov and verify California residency through the California Identity Gateway or Login.gov. It’s free, and you can submit on behalf of another California resident such as a child or elderly relative.6California Privacy Protection Agency. Delete Request and Opt-out Platform (DROP) Covered brokers must delete your personal information within 90 days of a DROP request, are prohibited from selling or sharing any new data they collect on you afterward, and must check the platform for new requests at least once every 45 days.7California Privacy Protection Agency. Information for Data Brokers You can still use the Spokeo form directly if you want faster action on a specific listing.

If Spokeo Ignores the Request

If Spokeo doesn’t act on your removal or the same profile keeps coming back after repeated opt-outs, California residents can file a complaint with the California Privacy Protection Agency, which enforces the California Consumer Privacy Act and the rules requiring data brokers to honor deletion requests.8State of California – Department of Justice – Office of the Attorney General. California Consumer Privacy Act

The complaint form is at cppa.ca.gov. You’ll identify the business, describe the issue with dates and specifics, and say whether you already tried to resolve it directly with Spokeo.9California Privacy Protection Agency. Complaint Form A sworn complaint authorizes the agency to contact Spokeo on your behalf; an unsworn one does not. The CPPA doesn’t represent individual consumers, but complaints inform its enforcement priorities. Residents of other states should check whether their state has its own consumer-privacy law and complaint process; a growing number do, with rights that vary by state.
