The Mountain America direct deposit form is a one-page PDF you download from macu.com, fill out with your account details, and hand to your employer’s payroll department so your paycheck is deposited electronically into your MACU checking or savings account. The number that matters most on the form is Mountain America’s routing number: 324079555.1Mountain America Credit Union. Setting Up Direct Deposit to Checking or Savings Once your employer processes it, your pay arrives in your account each cycle without a paper check.
What to Gather Before You Start
An incomplete form bounces back from payroll, so pull these together first:
- Mountain America’s routing number, 324079555. This nine-digit number identifies MACU in the ACH network. Confirm it matches what shows on your checks or in online banking.
- Your account number. It sits to the right of the routing number at the bottom of a personal check. No checks? Log into MACU’s online banking or mobile app and open the account details screen.
- Your Social Security number. Payroll uses it to match the authorization to your employee record.
- Your employee number, if your workplace assigns one. The form marks this field “if applicable.”
- Your employer’s name, exactly as it should appear on the authorization line.
MACU does not require a voided check. The direct deposit page says to have your routing and account numbers ready and nothing more.1Mountain America Credit Union. Setting Up Direct Deposit to Checking or Savings Some employers ask for one as their own verification step, so check with your payroll office if you’re unsure.
How to Fill Out Each Section
The form has three blocks: personal information, account information, and deposit instructions.2Mountain America Credit Union. Direct Deposit Authorization
Personal Information
Write your full legal name, street address, city, state, and zip code. Add both your home and work phone numbers; those are the fallback contacts if payroll runs into a problem. Print clearly. Illegible handwriting is a common reason forms get kicked back.
Account Information
The credit union name is pre-filled as Mountain America Credit Union. Check the box for either Savings or Checking, depending on where you want the money to land. Enter the routing number 324079555 and your account number. Verify every digit twice. A single transposed number sends your paycheck into limbo or into someone else’s account, and the correction typically takes a full pay cycle.
Deposit Instructions
You have three ways to split the deposit:
- Entire net pay sends your full after-tax paycheck to the account on the form.
- Percentage of net pay routes a set percentage to this account; the rest continues to wherever your employer currently sends it.
- Specific dollar amount sends a flat sum each pay period.
If you want pay split across more than one account, your employer will usually have you complete a separate form for each destination.2Mountain America Credit Union. Direct Deposit Authorization This is how people automate savings: a fixed slice into a savings account, the remainder into checking.
Authorization and Signature
Fill in your employer or payor’s name on the “To Employer/Payor Name” line. Sign and date. Your signature is what authorizes your employer to initiate ACH credits into your MACU account; without it, the form is invalid. If you mark the effective date as “Immediately,” payroll processes the change starting with the next available pay cycle. You can also write in a future start date to time the switch.
Submitting the Form
Hand the completed form to your employer’s payroll or human resources department. MACU provides the form but does not process the setup; your employer does.1Mountain America Credit Union. Setting Up Direct Deposit to Checking or Savings Some workplaces take a scanned PDF through an employee self-service portal; others want the original paper copy. Ask HR which channel they prefer before you send it, because using the wrong one costs you a pay cycle.
Some employers skip MACU’s form and use their own authorization document or an online payroll portal. The information is the same either way: routing number 324079555, your MACU account number, and the account type.
What Happens After You Submit
Expect one to two full pay cycles before the first electronic deposit lands. During that window, payroll is updating its system, and your pay may still arrive as a paper check.
Many payroll departments send a prenote first, a zero-dollar test transaction that confirms the routing and account numbers reach a real, open account. The ACH operating rules allow originators to send these prenotification entries for account validation.3Nacha. Minor Rules Topics If the prenote fails, usually because of a wrong digit, your employer will call you to correct it. Watch your MACU account during this period so you know exactly when the first live deposit hits.
Changing or Canceling Later
To change where your paycheck goes, fill out a new direct deposit form and give it to payroll. The new form overwrites the old instructions. Most employers do not use a separate cancellation form; replacing the information on file is the cancellation.
If you want to stop direct deposit entirely and return to paper checks, tell payroll in writing. Federal law also gives you the right to stop a preauthorized electronic transfer by notifying your financial institution orally or in writing at least three business days before the scheduled transfer date.4Office of the Law Revision Counsel. 15 USC 1693e – Preauthorized Transfers If you give oral notice to MACU, the credit union can require written confirmation within 14 days, and if you don’t send it the oral stop order expires.5eCFR. 12 CFR 1005.10 – Preauthorized Transfers
Switching to a different bank or credit union? Don’t close your MACU account the same day you submit the new form. Payroll changes take one to two cycles, and a deposit sent to a closed account gets rejected and returned to your employer. That reissue process can take five to ten business days, leaving you without pay. Keep the old account open until at least one deposit has landed in the new one.
If a Deposit Is Missing or Wrong
If payday arrives and nothing shows up in your MACU account, start with your employer. Payroll errors, such as a wrong account number, a system glitch, or a missed processing deadline, are the usual cause. Payroll can trace the ACH transaction and tell you whether the funds were sent, returned, or never initiated.
If the deposit was transmitted but credited in the wrong amount, or never arrived despite payroll confirming it went out, contact Mountain America. Under federal Regulation E, you have 60 days from the date the error first appears on your account statement to notify your financial institution.6eCFR. 12 CFR 1005.11 – Procedures for Resolving Errors Report it as soon as you spot it; waiting past that window can limit your protections. Your notice should include your name, account number, the type and date of the error, and the amount. If you call it in, MACU can require written confirmation within 10 business days.
Most fixes are routine: your employer corrects the routing or account information and resubmits the payment. If a delayed or misdirected deposit causes overdraft fees or bounced-check charges, raise that with both your employer and MACU, because the party responsible for the error may be liable for the costs.
A Note on Federal Benefits
The form above is for employer-paid wages. Social Security, SSI, VA, and other federal benefits use their own enrollment channels rather than your employer’s payroll. You can set up or change direct deposit for Social Security and SSI through your “my Social Security” account at ssa.gov, Treasury’s Go Direct site, by phone at 1-800-772-1213, or in person at a MACU branch.7Social Security Administration.
