You only need the Barclays Business Debit Card application form if your business current account has a signing mandate that requires more than one person to authorise changes. If a single signatory can authorise your account, skip the form and request the card by phone instead.1Barclays. Business Debit Cards For accounts with a complex mandate, the form is a short PDF you download from the Barclays business debit card page, sign, and return by post or through your relationship manager.
Do You Actually Need the Form
Your signing mandate is the rule set when the account was opened dictating how many people must approve account changes. It decides which route you take.
- Simple mandate, one authoriser: no form. Call the number matching your business turnover. Barclays lists 0345 605 2345 for businesses under £1 million turnover, 0333 202 7455 for £1 million to £5 million, 0800 027 1321 for £5 million and above, and 0333 202 7452 for agriculture clients.1Barclays. - Complex mandate, multiple authorisers: use the signed application form. Download it from the Barclays business debit card page, or ask your relationship manager for a copy.1Barclays. Business Debit Cards
Not sure which mandate applies? Check your original account opening documents, or call the phone line for your turnover band and ask. One quick call saves you from completing paperwork you don’t need.
You also need an active Barclays business current account before you apply, because the card is linked directly to it and spending comes straight off that balance.2Barclays. Business Debit Card User Guide
What to Have Ready Before You Start
Pull these together before you open the PDF. Getting any of them wrong — a misspelled name, a mistyped account number — can bounce the form back.
- Your six-digit sort code and eight-digit account number for the business current account the card will link to. You can find both on your existing debit card, in the Barclays app under your account homepage, in Online Banking, on bank statements, or printed on cheques.3Barclays. Find Sort Code and Account Number
- Full legal name and signature for each person who will receive a card. The form takes up to four cardholders on a single application.4Barclays. Barclays Business Debit Card Application Form
- Every required signatory lined up and available to sign. Under a complex mandate, a single missing signature means the form is incomplete.
The names and account details on the form must match what Barclays already holds. Cross-check against your most recent statement or the app before you commit pen to paper.
Filling In the Form
The form is short and almost entirely identification fields. Work through it in this order.
Start with the account section and enter the sort code and account number. Then move to the cardholder section and write the full legal name of each person who needs a card, up to four, with a signature next to each name in the dedicated box.4Barclays. Barclays Business Debit Card Application Form Use a ballpoint pen throughout, for cardholder signatures and authoriser signatures alike.
Then collect the authorising signatures the mandate requires. If three officials must sign off on account changes, all three sign this form. Nothing less will be processed.
One thing the form does not do: custom spending limits, category blocks, or contactless settings. There is no section for any of that. Those controls live in the Barclays mobile app and get set once the card has arrived.
Before you seal the envelope, read the whole form through once more. Confirm the account number, confirm every cardholder has signed next to their own name, and confirm every required mandate signatory has signed. This is the single most common cause of delay.
Submitting the Form
Submission is offline. There is no digital upload for this particular form. Send the completed, signed PDF to Barclays by post, or hand it to your relationship manager if you have one. A relationship manager can usually pass the form directly to the processing team, which can shave a few days off the standard post route.1Barclays. Business Debit Cards
Barclays does not publish a guaranteed processing window for business debit card applications. For comparison, standard replacement cards on the US consumer side typically arrive in three to five days and can stretch to ten.5Barclays US. General/Additional Information A similar window is reasonable to expect for a UK business card, but calling the phone line for your turnover band will give you a sharper estimate for your specific application.
When the Card Arrives
Sign the back of the card with a ballpoint pen as soon as it reaches you.2Barclays. Business Debit Card User Guide You can view the PIN inside the Barclays app: open Your Cards, pick the relevant debit card, tap View Card Details and PIN, and enter your five-digit app passcode. The PIN then shows for 30 seconds.6Barclays. I Have Forgotten My Debit Card PIN If you would rather not use the app, a branch can post you a PIN reminder instead.
From there, the card works anywhere Visa is accepted. The default daily cash machine withdrawal limit is £750 in the UK and £750 in local currency abroad, provided the funds are available or covered by an agreed overdraft. Some Barclays self-service devices support withdrawals up to £2,000. For anything above £2,000, visit a branch and give 24 hours’ notice.1Barclays. Business Debit Cards
Adding More Cardholders Later
If you need more cards after the first batch arrives, you can issue up to four additional debit cards to employees or other authorised users. There is no charge. Invitations go out through the Barclays app (More, then Manage Account, then Authorised Users), in a branch, or over the phone. The invited person has seven days to accept. Once accepted, they can spend in shops, online, over the phone, and at cash machines, but they cannot see the main account balance or transaction history unless you grant that access.7Barclays. Authorised Users
You set per-transaction limits and cash withdrawal caps for each authorised user from the app, and you can block categories such as gambling sites. That means adding people later does not require another paper form — only the initial card request on a complex-mandate account does.
