The Associated Bank direct deposit form is a one-page authorization you give to your employer or another payer so they can send recurring payments straight into your checking or savings account. You can download it as a PDF at associatedbank.com/pdf/DirectDeposit.pdf, or pick up a paper copy at any branch.1Associated Bank. Direct Deposit The routing number you’ll write on it is 075900575, the same for every Associated Bank account.2Associated Bank. Associated Bank Checking Routing Numbers Filling it out takes a few minutes; the first electronic deposit usually lands one to two pay cycles later.
Before you download anything, check with your payroll department. Many employers use their own standard direct deposit form, and a note printed on Associated Bank’s form says as much.1Associated Bank. Direct Deposit If your employer accepts the bank’s form, print it and complete it by hand.
What to Have Ready Before You Start
The form is short, but a wrong digit can bounce your first deposit. Pull these together first:
- Your Associated Bank routing number: 075900575. You can also confirm it on the bottom-left corner of any Associated Bank check or in your online banking dashboard.2Associated Bank. Associated Bank Checking Routing Numbers
- Your account number, which is the second string of digits printed to the right of the routing number on a check. It is not the number on your debit card.2Associated Bank. Associated Bank Checking Routing Numbers
- Your employer’s or payer’s full name and mailing address (street, city, state, ZIP).
- Whether you want the deposit going to checking or savings.
Some employers also want a voided check. Associated Bank’s form itself doesn’t require one, but your payroll office might.1Associated Bank. Direct Deposit If you don’t have paper checks, ask whether a screenshot of your routing and account numbers from online banking will do.
Filling Out the Form Section by Section
The form moves through six short sections in order.1Associated Bank. Direct Deposit
Date and Employer Information
Enter today’s date at the top. Below it, write your employer’s or payer’s name and full mailing address. If a government agency pays you, its name and address go here instead.
New Deposit or Account Change
Check one of two boxes. Pick “Begin depositing electronically with direct deposit” if this is your first setup. Pick “Change the account direct deposit is being deposited into” if you’re moving deposits from another bank or shifting to a different Associated Bank account. Payroll systems often handle new enrollments and account changes on different tracks, so the checkbox matters.
Deposit Amount
Choose “Full amount” to send your entire net pay to the account on the form. Choose “Specific amount” and write in a dollar figure if you want to split your pay, sending a set amount to this account and the rest somewhere else. The form covers one account, so a full split across multiple accounts may require a second form or a setup inside your employer’s payroll portal.
Bank and Account Details
Write “Associated Bank” as the financial institution. Enter the routing number 075900575 and your full account number. Read every digit back against your check or online banking record before you move on.
Contact and Signature
Fill in a daytime and evening phone number so payroll can reach you if something doesn’t process. Print your name and sign. A joint account holder can add their name and signature in the optional fields below if the employer requires it. Your signature authorizes the payer to send funds electronically and the bank to receive them.
Where to Submit It
Give the completed form to your employer’s payroll or human resources department, not to Associated Bank.3Associated Bank. How to Set Up Direct Deposit with Your Employer Many payroll offices accept a scanned PDF uploaded through an employee self-service portal. If yours wants paper, hand it to an HR representative rather than dropping it in a mailbox. The form has your account number on it.
Every payroll office runs on its own schedule. Some process new enrollments only at certain points in the pay cycle, so submit early if you can, and ask about any company-specific requirements.3Associated Bank. How to Set Up Direct Deposit with Your Employer
What Happens Next
Expect one to two full pay cycles before your first electronic deposit arrives. In that window, your employer’s payroll system is syncing with the ACH network, and you may still get paper checks. Don’t close any old account or stop cashing paper checks until you’ve confirmed an electronic deposit has actually landed.
The Prenote
Most employers send a prenote first: a zero-dollar test transaction that verifies your routing and account numbers before real money moves. A prenote typically clears in about three business days. If it comes back with an error, payroll will contact you and you’ll resubmit corrected information. This is the most common reason a first deposit takes longer than expected.
Payday Timing
Once direct deposit is active, funds are usually available on the morning of your scheduled payday.4Associated Bank. How Direct Deposit Works and How to Set It Up Associated Bank’s Early Pay feature on consumer checking accounts can make funds available up to two days before your normal payday.5Associated Bank. Enjoy the Ease of Direct Deposit Plus Early Pay Early Pay applies automatically when the bank receives advance notification from your employer; there’s no separate sign-up. It covers recurring deposits from employers, government agencies, and similar organizations, but not person-to-person transfers, mobile deposits, or other online transfers.
Social Security and Other Federal Benefits
Don’t use the Associated Bank form for Social Security or Supplemental Security Income. Federal law requires those benefits to be paid electronically, and the setup runs through the agency itself, not through the bank’s authorization form.6Social Security Administration. Direct Deposit You can arrange it three ways:
- Online, through your “my Social Security” account at ssa.gov or the Treasury’s Go Direct website.
- By phone, at the Treasury’s Electronic Payment Solution Center (1-800-333-1795) or the Social Security Administration (1-800-772-1213; TTY 1-800-325-0778).
- In person, by visiting an Associated Bank branch and asking staff to submit the updated information to Social Security for you.
You’ll still need the same two numbers regardless of method: routing 075900575 and your account number.2Associated Bank. Associated Bank Checking Routing Numbers
Fixing Errors and Changing Accounts
Most direct deposit problems come from a typo in the routing or account number. When the ACH network can’t match the numbers to a real account, it returns the funds to your employer, usually within two business days, and payroll reissues payment while you correct and resubmit the form.
If a deposit posts in the wrong amount or you see an unauthorized transfer, you have 60 days from the date your bank sends the statement reflecting the error to report it. Call Associated Bank or visit a branch. If you first report by phone, the bank may ask for a written description within 10 business days.7Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. Procedures for Resolving Errors
To move direct deposit to a different account, fill out a new form and check the “Change the account” box.1Associated Bank. Direct Deposit Submit it the same way you submitted the first one, and keep the old account open through at least one or two pay cycles so a deposit doesn’t land in limbo mid-switch. To cancel direct deposit and go back to paper checks, notify payroll in writing. Your employer can require electronic payment, but not at a specific bank; the choice of institution is yours.8FDIC.
