To set up direct deposit with Wings, download the Wings Financial direct deposit form, fill in your name, your Wings account number, and the routing number 296076152, then hand the signed form with a voided check to your employer’s payroll department. Wings itself does not process the form; your employer does.
Where to Get the Form
The authorization form is a one-page PDF on the Wings Credit Union website. It’s listed on the Forms & Disclosures page as “Authorization for Direct Deposit.”1Wings Credit Union. Forms & Disclosures You can also open the PDF directly.2Wings Financial Credit Union. Wings Financial Direct Deposit Authorization If downloading isn’t convenient, any Wings branch can hand you a printed copy.
The PDF still carries the older “Wings Financial Credit Union” name. The credit union shortened its name to Wings Credit Union, so the mismatch between the form header and the current branding is expected.3Wings Credit Union. Brand Update
What to Gather Before You Fill It Out
Pull these together first so you only touch the form once:
- Your Wings account number for the specific checking or savings account that should receive the money. It appears on the bottom of a personal check (to the right of the routing number), on a deposit slip, and inside online or mobile banking.
- The Wings routing number: 296076152. This is the ABA number used for ACH direct deposits. It identifies the credit union within the Federal Reserve’s payment system and is not your debit card number.4Wings Credit Union. Support5Federal Reserve. Micro Data Reference Manual – Item Number 9042
- A voided check or deposit slip. The form tells you to attach one for a checking account so your employer can verify the numbers. If you don’t carry checks, request a deposit slip at a branch or call member services at 1-800-692-2274 about an account verification letter.2Wings Financial Credit Union. - Your employer’s payroll contact. Payroll departments vary. Some want paper, some want a PDF uploaded to a portal, and some skip the Wings form entirely and have you type the numbers into their own system.
Filling Out the Form
The form is short. You authorize your employer to initiate electronic credit entries to your Wings account and select whether the destination is checking or savings.2Wings Financial Credit Union. Wings Financial Direct Deposit Authorization Write your full legal name exactly as it appears on your Wings account. Enter the account number and the routing number 296076152. Sign and date.
Verify every digit before you hand anything over. A single wrong number can route your pay to someone else’s account or bounce the transfer. If an ACH item comes back unpaid, Wings charges a $30 return ACH fee.6Wings Credit Union. Savings and Checking Account Disclosure Your employer’s bank may add its own fee.
Splitting a Paycheck Across Multiple Accounts
The Wings form covers one account. To split a paycheck, for example $500 into savings and the rest into checking, you handle the split through your employer’s payroll setup rather than on this form. Many payroll systems accept multiple accounts with either fixed dollar amounts or percentages for each. You may need to submit a separate Wings form per account, or your employer’s own direct deposit form may fit multiple accounts on one sheet. Ask payroll which approach they use.
Submitting the Form
Give the signed form and your voided check or deposit slip to your employer’s human resources or payroll department. The form’s own instruction is to “return this completed form to your payroll department.”2Wings Financial Credit Union. Wings Financial Direct Deposit Authorization Some employers want the paper original, some accept an uploaded PDF, and some will ignore the form and have you enter the numbers directly into their payroll software.
Keep a copy of what you submit. If a deposit goes missing later, that copy proves which numbers you provided.
What Happens After You Submit
Most employers finish a new direct deposit setup within one to two pay cycles. Part of that wait is prenoting: your employer’s bank sends a $0 test transaction to Wings to confirm the routing and account numbers are valid. Prenotes take about three days to clear. If the test fails because of a typo or a closed account, payroll will ask you to resubmit corrected information. Until the prenote clears, expect a paper check or your previous payment method.
When the first real deposit arrives, compare it against your pay stub. If a deposit doesn’t show up on payday, call your employer’s payroll office first and ask for the ACH trace number, a 15-digit identifier assigned to every ACH transaction that Wings can use to locate the payment.
Changing or Canceling Direct Deposit
To move your direct deposit to a different Wings account or to another financial institution, submit a new form to payroll with the updated routing and account numbers. Don’t close the old Wings account until at least one deposit has landed in the new one. Overlapping for a pay cycle prevents a gap where your paycheck has nowhere to go.
To stop direct deposit altogether, notify payroll in writing. No federal law sets a specific notice period, but give enough lead time before the next payroll cutoff; a change submitted the day before payday rarely takes effect until the following cycle. Whether your employer can require direct deposit or must offer a paper check alternative depends on your state’s labor laws.7Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. Using the Same Numbers for Tax Refunds and Social Security
The same Wings routing and account numbers work for federal benefit payments: Social Security, VA benefits, and IRS tax refunds. For a 2026 tax refund, verify your bank details carefully before filing. If the direct deposit information is wrong or missing, the IRS freezes the refund and sends a CP53E notice giving you 30 days to update your bank information through your IRS Online Account. Miss that window and a paper check follows about six weeks later.8Taxpayer Advocate Service. Direct Deposit Changes for 2026 Could Affect How and When You Get Your Refund
For Social Security, set up or change direct deposit through your my Social Security account online, by calling 1-800-772-1213, or at a local Social Security office. Some financial institutions can also update deposit information for you through an automated enrollment process; ask Wings whether they offer this.9Social Security Administration. Wire Transfers Use the Same Number but Are a Different System
Wings lists the same 296076152 routing number for incoming domestic wire transfers.10Wings Credit Union. Wire Transfers Matching numbers aside, direct deposit and wire transfers are separate systems. Direct deposit runs through the ACH network and is usually free. Wires process individually in real time and typically carry fees on one or both ends. If someone asks for your “wire routing number” versus your “ACH routing number,” at Wings they happen to match, but confirm with the credit union before sending large sums.
