To buy seeds from the University of Hawaiʻi seed program, download the UH seed lab order form from the CTAHR website, fill in the varieties and quantities you want, and mail it to the lab on the UH Mānoa campus with a check or money order. Fax and email submission are also accepted. The form itself carries the current prices and the address, so always work from a fresh download rather than an old copy.
Where to Download the Form
The form lives on the CTAHR Agricultural Diagnostic Service Center’s seed ordering page at ctahr.hawaii.edu/seed/order.asp. Two versions are posted: a Microsoft Word document and an Adobe PDF.1University of Hawaii. Download a new copy every time you order. The program updates the form to reflect current inventory and pricing, and as of early 2026 it has flagged upcoming price adjustments tied to rising supply and operations costs.2University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources. What You Can Order
The program sells varieties bred by UH researchers for Hawaiʻi’s climate. As of spring 2026 the list includes:2University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources. Agricultural Diagnostic Service Center – Seed Program
- UH Rainbow Papaya (GMO; extra waiver step required, limit one Home Garden Packet per purchase)
- Kaala Bell Pepper (limit one HGP per order)
- Supersweet Yellow and Silver Sweet Corn (HGP available; bulk limited to one pound per order)
- Waimanalo Long Eggplant (HGP only)
- Tomato Bush Type “Haruki”
- Supersweet #9 Yellow and Silver (HGP only)
HGP stands for Home Garden Packet, a small pre-measured packet sized for backyard growers. Several varieties are sold as HGP only, so bulk isn’t an option for those. Where bulk is offered, the form lists per-ounce or per-pound prices next to the HGP price. Most of the program’s seeds are non-GMO and open-pollinated, so you can save seed from your harvest for future planting. The Rainbow Papaya is the exception.
Filling Out the Form
The form has columns for variety name, quantity, unit price, and line total. For each variety you want, write the exact name as it appears on the form and mark whether you want an HGP or a bulk quantity where that choice exists. Multiply quantity by unit price for each line, then add the lines for your subtotal.
Check the arithmetic before you send it. If the total on your form doesn’t match the payment you enclose, the lab may return the order instead of shipping a partial one.
Fill in your full name, mailing address, phone number, and email address. The lab uses your phone and email to reach you about out-of-stock items or questions on the order. Confirm your shipping address is correct, because seeds go by USPS and a bad address strands the shipment. Dating the form helps the lab manage its queue.
Submitting the Form and Paying
Three channels are open:1University of Hawaii. Agricultural Diagnostic Service Center – Seed Lab
- Mail: University of Hawaii Seed Program, 1910 East West Road, Sherman Lab Room 108, Honolulu, HI 96822
- Fax: (808) 956-2592
- Email: seedlab@hawaii.edu
By mail is the straightforward route: send the form and payment together. Checks and money orders are made payable to the University of Hawaii. If you fax or email the form, you still owe payment separately, and the program’s primary instruction is to “mail with payment,” so contact the lab to confirm how to handle the payment side.2University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources. Agricultural Diagnostic Service Center – Seed Program
Your payment needs to cover both the seed cost and postage. If the numbers don’t line up, expect a delay or a returned order. Keep a copy of the completed form along with the check number or money order receipt so you have a record if the shipment goes wrong.
Extra Step for Rainbow Papaya
Because the Rainbow Papaya is a genetically modified variety, you can’t just add it to your form and mail it in. Contact the lab by phone or email first. They will send you a link to a revised instructional video on YouTube and a new waiver form. Watch the video, sign the waiver, and return it. Only after the lab has your signed waiver on file can you buy the papaya seeds.2University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources. Ordering From Outside the United States
The program does ship internationally, but there are extra requirements that add cost and time. Confirm with your country’s agricultural office that you can get an import permit for the varieties you want before you order.2University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources. A phytosanitary certificate is also required for customs. The fee starts at $61 and rises with the value of the seeds; shipments valued at $1,250 or more carry a $106 fee.3APHIS. User Fees for Export Certification of Plants and Plant Products The certificate requirement applies to Home Garden Packets, not just bulk. International postage is calculated separately and can be substantial, so email seedlab@hawaii.edu for a shipping quote before you send the form.2University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources. After You Send the Form
Once the lab has your form and payment, processing runs about seven to ten business days, sometimes longer during peak planting seasons. Seeds arrive by regular USPS mail with a receipt.
If something you ordered is out of stock, the lab will generally refund the item or offer a credit toward a future order.2University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources. Agricultural Diagnostic Service Center – Seed Program That contact information you wrote on the form is how they reach you, so make sure it’s current. If your order hasn’t arrived in a reasonable window, email seedlab@hawaii.edu or call the lab with your order details and the date you mailed payment.
