To complete the Turo inspection form, download the Annual Vehicle Inspection Checklist from the Safety Inspections tab on your vehicle page, fill in the host section at the top with your car’s year, make, model, and 17-digit VIN, take it to a qualified mechanic who marks each of the 21 items pass or fail and signs it, then upload the completed document through the Turo app or website. Every listed vehicle in the U.S. needs this done once a year, and the form must reach Turo before your due date or your car drops out of search results.1Turo. Annual Vehicle Safety Inspections
What the Checklist Covers
The U.S. checklist has 21 items. A mechanic works through the full list in one visit and marks each line pass or fail. Any single fail means the vehicle doesn’t pass, and you’ll need the repair completed and a fresh form before uploading.2Turo. Annual Vehicle Inspection Checklist

Filling In the Host Section
Before the appointment, complete the host portion at the top of the form: year, make, model, and the full 17-digit VIN. Turo’s review team matches the VIN on the form against the VIN on your listing profile, so a typo or a mismatch will get the submission rejected even if the mechanic did everything right.
Who Can Sign the Form
The checklist header calls for a “qualified mechanic.” The form has a field for an ASE certification number, but that field is optional, so a licensed mechanic who isn’t ASE-certified can still perform the inspection.2Turo. Annual Vehicle Inspection Checklist
When the mechanic finishes, they sign and date the form and write their name, company name, and shop address. Adding the ASE ID or a shop license number isn’t required but strengthens the submission.
Alternative Forms Turo Accepts
You don’t have to use Turo’s checklist. Turo accepts state-required inspection forms and dealership inspection reports as long as the alternative document covers every item on the Turo checklist. If your state already requires an annual safety inspection and the resulting paperwork addresses all 21 points, you can upload that instead.3Turo. New York Uses a Different Process
Hosts in New York don’t use the Turo checklist at all. Instead, upload a photo of your vehicle’s square state inspection sticker and enter the sticker’s expiration date. The submission window is tighter: upload proof within seven days before the end of the month the sticker expires. Miss that window and Turo restricts the vehicle to block new bookings and cancels any trips booked during the first two weeks of the following month. If you still haven’t updated after fourteen days, remaining trips get canceled too.1Turo. Annual Vehicle Safety Inspections
Uploading the Completed Form
Once the mechanic hands back the signed checklist, submit it through the Turo app or website:4Turo. Submit an Annual Safety Inspection
- Log into the Turo app or website and open your vehicle page.
- Go to the Safety inspections tab.
- Tap or click Add inspection.
- Fill in the short on-screen form and upload a PDF or clear photo of the completed checklist.
- Tap Submit.
A phone photo works as long as every field, the mechanic’s signature, and the date are readable. If you used a state form or dealership report, upload it the same way. Turo’s support team reviews the submission and, once approved, sends a notification confirming the vehicle is cleared for bookings.3Turo. Important Vehicle Safety and Cleaning Updates for Hosts
When the Inspection Is Due
For a brand-new listing with a model year equal to or newer than the previous calendar year, the first inspection is due at the end of the month twelve months after your listing date. All other new listings get six months from the listing date, again due at month’s end. Every inspection after the first is due twelve months from the date of your last passing inspection, at month’s end.1Turo. Annual Vehicle Safety Inspections
If you submit a required maintenance inspection checklist for a safety issue within that twelve-month window, it can count as your annual inspection and resets the clock from that date.3Turo. Important Vehicle Safety and Cleaning Updates for Hosts
What Happens If You Miss the Deadline
For hosts outside New York, Turo removes the vehicle from search results once the due date passes. Guests can’t find or book your car. Trips booked before the deadline stay active and can still be modified, but no new reservations come in until you submit a passing inspection.3Turo. Important Vehicle Safety and Cleaning Updates for Hosts
The risk isn’t only lost bookings. Turo’s terms of service require that your vehicle be “in safe and roadworthy condition” and “in full compliance with all applicable inspection and registration requirements” at all times. Violating that obligation, whether or not the violation is directly related to a specific incident, voids any protection plan you selected. Turo also reserves the right to charge $5,500 in liquidated damages for certain hosting violations, including sharing a vehicle with expired registration.5Turo. Terms of Service
Keep a copy of the signed form for your own records after uploading. If Turo’s review team flags anything, you’ll want the original ready to resend without another trip to the shop.
