If you received a mailed notice about the TransUnion settlement and want to submit a claim form, you are almost certainly looking at the Norman v. Trans Union case, a $23 million settlement over disputed hard inquiries. Filing is done through the settlement’s online portal using the Notice ID and PIN printed on the postcard or letter you received. The claim deadline for the enhanced payment of up to $160 was June 24, 2025; class members who did nothing by that date still receive a baseline payment of $20 to $30 automatically.1TransUnion Class Action Settlement Claim Form. Two quick boundaries before the walkthrough. The other active TransUnion case, Wilson v. TransUnion ($2.5 million, over data sent to Portfolio Recovery Associates), does not use a claim form at all; eligible class members receive a check of at least $40 automatically.2Wilson v. TransUnion, LLC. Wilson v. TransUnion, LLC – Case No. 1:23-cv-00131-JPH-MJD And the older Ramirez OFAC case has already closed its claim process. So if you are looking for a form to fill out, it is the Norman form.
Who the Norman Form Is For
The Norman settlement covers consumers who received TransUnion’s “502 Letter” in response to a written dispute of a hard inquiry on their credit report between December 5, 2016 and January 31, 2025. The lawsuit alleged that TransUnion failed to reasonably investigate those disputes or remove the disputed inquiries.1TransUnion Class Action Settlement Claim Form. Duane E. Norman, Sr. v. Trans Union, LLC Settlement If you received a postcard or letter with a Notice ID and PIN, TransUnion’s records already identify you as a class member. You do not need to prove class membership separately.
What to Have Ready Before You Open the Form
Gather these before you start, because the portal times out and the form is faster to complete in one sitting:
- The Notice ID and PIN from the mailed notice. These are your login credentials and skip the manual identity verification step.
- Your full legal name, spelled exactly as it appears in TransUnion’s records. Minor discrepancies can delay processing.
- Your current mailing address. Checks go to the address on file, so update it on the form if you have moved.
- A working phone number and email address for status updates.
Filling Out and Submitting the Form
Go to the settlement website and click the Online Claim Submission button. Enter your Notice ID and PIN. Fill in your personal details, then describe the harm you experienced from TransUnion’s handling of your hard inquiry dispute. The form ends with a declaration under penalty of perjury that everything you have submitted is truthful. Once you click submit, the system generates a confirmation code. Save it, or screenshot the confirmation page, as proof of filing.
The description of harm is the part that matters. The baseline $20 to $30 payment goes to every class member automatically. The claim form exists so you can request the higher tier of up to $160 by documenting specific harm you suffered.1TransUnion Class Action Settlement Claim Form. Duane E. Norman, Sr. v. Trans Union, LLC Settlement The actual amount you receive depends on how many valid claims come in, because the fund is split pro rata among approved claimants. More claimants, smaller individual shares.
If You Lost Your Notice
Without the Notice ID and PIN, the portal will not let you in. Email the settlement administrator at info@transuniondisputeclassaction.com with your full name and address and ask them to look up your records and reissue your credentials. If TransUnion’s records show you received a 502 Letter during the class period, you are eligible regardless of whether you still have the physical notice.
When the Check Arrives
No checks go out until the court grants final approval and that approval becomes non-appealable. The final fairness hearing for the Norman settlement was scheduled for July 21, 2025 at the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.1TransUnion Class Action Settlement Claim Form. Duane E. Norman, Sr. v. Trans Union, LLC Settlement After the court enters its final order, there is typically a waiting period for appeals before the administrator can begin cutting checks. Disbursement commonly takes several months after that.
Checks are mailed to the address the administrator has on file, so keep your contact information current with them, not just with TransUnion. Most settlement checks are valid for 90 to 180 days. If one arrives and you sit on it past the expiration date, contact the administrator quickly to request a reissue. States treat uncashed settlement checks as abandoned property after a dormancy period of roughly one to five years depending on the state, and the money gets turned over to the state’s unclaimed property fund. You can still recover it after that, but it takes a separate claim with the state.
Tax Treatment of the Payment
Payments for FCRA violations are generally taxable. The IRS treats damages for non-physical injuries, including credit reporting errors and related emotional distress, as gross income under IRC Section 61. The Section 104(a)(2) exclusion applies only to damages received for physical injuries or sickness, which does not cover credit report errors.3Internal Revenue Service. Tax Implications of Settlements and Judgments
The administrator must issue a Form 1099-MISC for payments of $2,000 or more in a calendar year. Starting in 2026, that $2,000 threshold replaced the previous $600 threshold, so smaller settlement payments are less likely to generate a 1099.4Internal Revenue Service. 2026 Publication 1099 Most class members in the Norman settlement will receive well under $2,000 and will not get a 1099. The money is still taxable either way. The 1099 threshold governs the administrator’s reporting obligation, not yours.
If You Missed the June 24, 2025 Deadline
Missing the Norman claim deadline does not knock you out of the settlement. The deadline only applied to the enhanced payment tier. Class members who did not file still receive the automatic baseline payment of $20 to $30, assuming TransUnion has a current address for you.1TransUnion Class Action Settlement Claim Form. Duane E. Norman, Sr. v. Trans Union, LLC Settlement If you have moved since you received the notice, send the administrator your updated address so the check does not go to an old home.
