The SoFi direct deposit form is a pre-filled PDF you generate inside the SoFi app or website and hand to your employer so your paycheck lands automatically in your SoFi Checking or Savings account. It arrives already populated with your routing number, account number, account type, and a voided check image, which is everything a payroll department needs. Building it takes about two minutes, and most employers activate the new deposit within one or two pay cycles after receiving it.
Generating the Form in the SoFi App
SoFi doesn’t technically require a paper form, but most employers do. The app builds one for you with your details already filled in.
- Log in to your SoFi account on the mobile app or website.
- Tap or click the Banking tab, then tap the gear icon.
- Select Direct deposit, then choose Send a form to your employer.
- Pick the account you want the deposit sent to (checking or savings) and tap Next.
- Choose how much of your paycheck to deposit and type in your employer’s name.
- A pre-filled form with a voided check appears. Email it to yourself or your employer, or save the PDF, then tap Done.1SoFi. How Do I Manually Set Up Direct Deposit for SoFi Checking and Savings? (Direct Deposit Form)
If your employer has its own direct deposit authorization form, and many do, you’ll need to pull the numbers manually and enter them on their document instead.
Finding Your Routing and Account Numbers
On the mobile app, tap the Banking tab, select the account you want to use, then tap the gear icon. Your routing and account numbers appear on that screen. On the desktop site, log in, click Banking from the top menu, and select the account.2SoFi. The routing number is a nine-digit code that identifies SoFi Bank, N.A. as the receiving institution and is the same for every SoFi customer. Your account number is unique to you. Double-check both before submitting anything. A single transposed digit can route your paycheck to the wrong place or cause the deposit to bounce back.
Filling Out an Employer’s Form
If your employer hands you their own authorization form instead of accepting SoFi’s PDF, you’ll fill in the same core details. Most employer forms ask for:
- Bank name: SoFi Bank, N.A.
- Routing number: the nine-digit number from your SoFi account settings.
- Account number: your unique account number from the same screen.
- Account type: check Checking or Savings depending on which SoFi account you chose. This matters. The ACH network uses account type to process the transaction, and selecting the wrong one can delay or reject the deposit.
- Deposit amount: full paycheck, a specific dollar amount, or in some cases a percentage.
Make sure the name on the form matches your name in your employer’s payroll system exactly. Even a middle initial that appears on one form but not the other can flag the request as a possible error and delay processing. Sign and date where indicated. If the form asks for a voided check or bank letter, print the voided-check page from SoFi’s pre-filled PDF and attach that.
Splitting Across Accounts
Many employer forms let you send your paycheck to more than one account. You could send a fixed amount to SoFi Savings and the remainder to SoFi Checking, for example.
Skipping the Form Entirely
SoFi also offers an automated setup that connects to your employer’s payroll system without a paper form at all. From the Banking tab, look for the option to connect your employer’s payroll directly. If your employer’s payroll provider is in SoFi’s network, the system links your account information automatically.3SoFi. Submitting the Completed Form
How you deliver the form depends on how your employer handles payroll. Large companies that run Workday, ADP, or UKG often let you enter your banking details directly in their employee self-service portal, and you may not need to hand anyone a physical form at all. Look under payment settings or direct deposit in the HR portal.
Smaller employers might ask for a printed copy or an email. If you email the form, send it as a password-protected PDF rather than a plain attachment. Your routing and account numbers together are enough for someone to initiate withdrawals from your account, so treat the document the way you’d treat a blank check. Some employers accept the form through an internal secure upload portal.
After submitting, ask your payroll contact to confirm they received the form and when the change will take effect. Payroll departments process changes on their own cycle, so a Tuesday submission doesn’t necessarily mean a Friday activation.
What Happens After You Submit
New direct deposits typically take one to two pay periods to become active.4SoFi. Why Is My Direct Deposit Not Showing in My SoFi Money Account Yet During that window, your employer may send a prenote, which is a zero-dollar test transaction that verifies your routing and account numbers are valid and that SoFi’s system accepts the connection. The prenote is invisible to you. No money moves. If something is wrong with the numbers, the prenote fails and your employer’s payroll team should reach out for corrected information.
On the first payday after setup, check the Activity feed in your SoFi app to confirm the deposit arrived. If nothing shows, look at your most recent pay stub. Your employer may have issued a paper check for that cycle while the direct deposit was still being processed. Contact payroll first, since delays almost always originate on the employer’s side rather than SoFi’s.
Why the Setup Is Worth Doing
SoFi posts incoming ACH deposits as soon as it receives notification from the Federal Reserve, which is typically up to two days before your scheduled payday. Funds usually appear between midnight and 6 AM on the day of the early deposit. To qualify, you need at least $1,000 in recurring direct deposits every 31 days. Eligible deposits include paychecks, pension payments, and government benefits like Social Security. One-time deposits such as IRS tax refunds don’t count.5SoFi. Early Paycheck Access
Direct deposit also changes your interest rate. Members with an eligible direct deposit earn 3.10% APY on savings balances, including Vaults. Without direct deposit, that rate drops to 0.80% APY. All members earn 0.50% APY on checking balances regardless of direct deposit status.6SoFi. Open a High Yield Savings Account Online – Banking There is no minimum deposit amount required to earn the higher savings rate. Any recurring direct deposit from an employer or government agency qualifies.7SoFi. What Features Do I Get With Recurring Direct Deposits?
Through December 31, 2026, members who have never previously set up direct deposit can earn a $50 bonus for receiving at least $1,000 in eligible direct deposits within 25 calendar days of the first qualifying deposit, or a $400 bonus for receiving at least $5,000 in the same 25-day window. Eligible deposits are recurring ACH payments from an employer, payroll provider, or government agency. Peer-to-peer transfers, wire transfers, and bank ACH transfers don’t count. SoFi pays the bonus into your checking account within seven business days of meeting the requirements. One bonus per member, and for joint accounts only the primary holder’s activity counts.3SoFi. Your Rights and What to Do If a Deposit Goes Wrong
Federal law prohibits your employer from forcing you to open an account at a specific bank as a condition of employment. Under the Electronic Fund Transfer Act, an employer can require direct deposit in general, but you get to choose which financial institution receives the money.8Office of the Law Revision Counsel. 15 USC 1693k – Compulsory Use of Electronic Fund Transfers If your employer insists on a particular bank, they must offer an alternative like a paper check.
If a direct deposit goes missing or posts for the wrong amount, Regulation E gives you 60 days from the date SoFi sends your account statement to report the error. SoFi then investigates, typically within 10 business days, though the institution may take up to 45 days if it provides a provisional credit while investigating.9Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. Regulation E 1005.11 – Procedures for Resolving Errors Start by contacting SoFi support through the app, but also check with your employer’s payroll department. Most missing deposit issues trace back to incorrect account details on the employer’s end rather than a bank-side error.
