To change the mobile number linked to your SBI account with a paper request, fill out the SBI mobile number change form — officially the bank’s Customer Request Form — and hand it in at your home branch with a photo ID. The key field is item 10, “Change mobile number to,” where you write your new 10-digit number. If you would rather skip the paper entirely, OnlineSBI and the YONO app both let you update the number without a branch visit, provided you still have access to either your old number or a working Digital Token.
Getting the Form and Filling It Out

Fill in the branch name and your 11-digit account number at the top. Print your full name exactly as it appears on your bank records; even a minor spelling variation can cause the request to be rejected. Locate item 10, labeled “Change mobile number to,” and write your new 10-digit mobile number clearly in that space. Sign at the bottom. The branch will match your signature against the specimen captured when you opened the account, so keep it consistent.
If the Form Isn’t Available, Use a Letter
When the pre-printed form is out of stock or you’d rather write your own, SBI branches accept a handwritten or typed Letter of Request addressed to the branch manager.2State Bank of India. Attach a photocopy of your ID, sign the letter, and use a subject line along the lines of “Request for Change of Mobile Number.”
What to Bring With the Form
For a branch submission you need a government-issued photo ID matching the name on your account. The branch keeps the copy and checks it against the original during verification.
You’ll also want your 11-digit account number handy. It’s printed on the first page of your passbook, on your chequebook, and shown under Account Summary in OnlineSBI and YONO. Your Customer Information File (CIF) number sits on the same passbook page and can speed things up if staff ask for it, though the form itself doesn’t always require it.
Submitting the Form at the Branch
Take the completed form to the “May I Help You” counter or ask for a Relationship Manager. A bank official compares your original ID to the photocopy, checks your signature, and stamps the form to confirm physical verification.
Once the branch accepts the request, you’ll receive an SMS on the newly registered number confirming the update.2State Bank of India. After the confirmation arrives, initiate a small transaction or log in to internet banking to check that OTPs are landing on the new number.
Skipping the Paper Form Through OnlineSBI
If your internet banking is active, you can start the change online. Log in to OnlineSBI, go to “My Accounts & Profile,” then “Profile,” then “My Profile,” and enter your profile password. On the profile screen, click “Change Mobile Number – Domestic only (Through ATM)” at the bottom right.4State Bank of India. - IRATA (ATM approval). Select your debit card and enter its expiry date, cardholder name, and PIN. You receive a 10-digit reference number. At any SBI ATM, swipe your card, choose “Services,” then “Others,” then “Internet Banking Request Approval,” and key in the reference number. - OTP on both numbers. An OTP and a 13-digit reference number are sent to both your old and new numbers. From each phone, send an SMS in the format ACTIVATE [8-digit OTP] [13-digit reference number] to 567676 within four hours. This works only if the old SIM is still active.5State Bank of India. - Contact Center callback. You receive a reference number, and an SBI agent calls the new number within three working days to verify personal and account details. Once verified, the update happens immediately.5State Bank of India. We have received your request for Mobile number change
IRATA is the quickest option when you have a working debit card and an SBI ATM nearby. The callback method fits when you can neither visit a branch nor reach an ATM but can answer security questions on the phone.
Skipping the Paper Form Through YONO
If YONO is already set up with an active Digital Token, open the app, go to the mobile number update option, and authenticate with your Digital Token PIN or biometric. This path assumes a functioning YONO setup. If your old number is already disconnected and you never activated the Digital Token, YONO won’t let you through, and you’re back to a branch visit or OnlineSBI.
NRI Account Holders
If you hold an NRE, NRO, or FCNR account with an SBI branch in India and live abroad, you can change your mobile number through internet banking without traveling to India. SBI’s NRI form states that mobile number and email changes for internet banking transactions can be done directly through the online portal.7State Bank of India. If branch approval is required, you can post or courier a signed request letter to your home branch in India.
NRI customers in the United States should note that SBI’s US branches cannot process changes on NRI accounts held in India, because US banking regulations prevent them from operating those accounts.8State Bank of India, New York.
