To cancel a Safe-Guard protection plan, complete the Safe-Guard cancellation form with your contract and vehicle information, attach proof of your reason for canceling (a payoff letter, bill of sale, or repossession letter), get the selling dealer’s signature, and submit it through Safe-Guard’s online portal, through the dealership, or by mail to the company’s Atlanta headquarters. If you sold or traded the vehicle, Safe-Guard asks you to submit the request within 30 days of the sale date.1Safe-Guard Products International. Support
Check Whether Your Plan Can Be Canceled
Before you fill anything out, pull your original coverage agreement and find the cancellation clause. Safe-Guard’s own cancellation page warns that some products are noncancelable and that stipulations vary by plan.2Safe-Guard Products International. Cancel Coverage Your contract tells you three things you need up front: whether the plan qualifies at all, how the refund is calculated, and whether there is a deadline. If you already filed a claim under the plan, any amount Safe-Guard paid on that claim will be deducted from your refund.
Documents to Gather
The form requires a copy of your original contract as an attachment, so locate that first. The other documents you need depend on why you’re canceling:
- Loan paid off: a payoff letter or statement from your lender showing the loan is satisfied and no lien remains on the title.
- Vehicle sold or traded: a bill of sale or trade-in disclosure showing the date ownership transferred.
- Repossession: a repossession letter from the lienholder confirming the vehicle was recovered.3Safe-Guard Products International. Cancellation Form
If you’re canceling a vehicle service contract, also record two odometer readings: the mileage at the original purchase date and the mileage on the date you’re requesting cancellation. Check your purchase paperwork or service records for the original figure, and note current mileage from the dashboard or a recent service receipt. These numbers feed the refund calculation, so get them right.
Filling Out the Form
You can download the PDF from Safe-Guard’s forms portal or start the process on the cancel-coverage page at safe-guardproducts.com.2Safe-Guard Products International. Cancel Coverage The online version and the printable PDF collect the same core information; the online version walks you through it step by step.
Reason and Product Type
Select your reason for canceling: loan paid off, repossession, or other. Then check the box for the product you’re canceling. The form lists Safe-Guard’s product lines individually: Guaranteed Asset Protection (GAP), Lease Wear and Tear, Tire and Wheel Protection, Vehicle Service Contract, or Other. If you bought more than one product through the same dealer and want to cancel several, you may need a separate form for each.
Customer and Dealer Information
Enter your name, mailing address, phone number, and email exactly as they appear on your original contract. The form also asks for the selling dealer’s name and contact information. If you can’t remember which dealership sold the plan, the dealer name is printed on your contract.
Vehicle and Contract Details
This section links your request to the right policy. You’ll need:
- The last seven digits of the VIN. The full 17-character VIN sits on your dashboard (visible through the windshield on the driver’s side), your registration card, or your insurance documents. Enter only the final seven characters.3Safe-Guard Products International. Cancellation Form
- The contract purchase date, meaning when you bought the protection plan (not the vehicle, though the two dates are often the same).
- The cancellation or repossession date. This is the date you sold the vehicle, paid off the loan, or lost the vehicle to repossession, not the date you fill out the form. Safe-Guard uses this date as the effective end of coverage.
- Vehicle year, make, and model.
- Lienholder name. Even if the loan is paid off, list who the original lienholder was.
- Term of contract and months in effect: the total length of the plan and how many months have run since it started.
Vehicle service contracts add two more fields: the odometer reading at purchase and the odometer reading at cancellation. Leave both blank for a GAP waiver or any other non-mileage product.
Signatures
The PDF requires two signatures with dates: yours as the registered customer, and the selling dealer’s.3Safe-Guard Products International. Cancellation Form You can’t sign and mail it yourself. You’ll need to bring the completed form to the dealership’s finance office or coordinate with them to get their signature. The online route handles this differently, because Safe-Guard contacts the dealer directly after you submit.
How to Submit
Safe-Guard accepts cancellations through three channels. Pick whichever fits your situation.
Online Portal
The fastest option. Go to safe-guardproducts.com/support/cancel-coverage and complete the online form. You’ll indicate whether you’re a customer, dealer, or other party, then enter your customer information, dealer details, and vehicle data. A checkbox at the bottom confirms you’re requesting cancellation and understand you’re giving up all rights under the agreement. Safe-Guard processes the request within 5 to 10 business days and then sends it to your selling dealership to finalize.2Safe-Guard Products International. Cancel Coverage A representative may contact you if additional documentation is needed.
Through the Selling Dealership
If the selling dealership is nearby, bringing the completed PDF and supporting documents to the finance office is the most hands-on route. The dealership can sign on the spot, attach your documentation, and submit everything through their direct portal with Safe-Guard. It also gives you a chance to ask the finance manager about your specific contract terms.
By Mail
Mail the signed form, supporting documents, and a copy of the original contract to Safe-Guard’s headquarters at 2 Concourse Parkway, Suite 500, Atlanta, GA 30328. Use certified mail or another trackable service and keep copies of everything. The PDF still needs the dealer’s signature before you send it, so plan on visiting the dealership first.
After You Submit
Once Safe-Guard has all the required documentation, cancellations are processed within 5 to 10 business days.2Safe-Guard Products International. Cancel Coverage The clock doesn’t start until your package is complete; if something is missing, the timeline resets when you supply it. If you submitted online, you can check status at portal.safe-guardproducts.com/default/cancel/status. Otherwise, call 1-800-742-7896 for an update.
Refunds are issued by the selling dealer and applied to your loan balance unless you provide proof that the loan has been paid off or the vehicle has been traded.2Safe-Guard Products International. Cancel Coverage If you still owe on the vehicle, the refund reduces your principal. If the loan is satisfied and you’ve submitted a payoff letter, the dealer issues the refund directly to you.
Most Safe-Guard contracts calculate the refund on a pro-rata basis, dividing the days remaining on the coverage by the total term.2Safe-Guard Products International. Cancel Coverage For vehicle service contracts, mileage used against the contract’s allowance can reduce the refund further. Some contracts instead use the Rule of 78s, which front-loads the earned portion of the premium and returns significantly less than a straight pro-rata calculation at the same point in the term.4Wyoming Legislature. GAP Waiver Cancellation Refund Calculation Methodology Check your agreement to see which method applies. Two deductions come off the top of any refund: any claim Safe-Guard paid under the coverage, and an administrative fee, which commonly falls in the $25 to $50 range depending on your contract.
If Something Goes Wrong
The most common holdup is a missing dealer signature on the PDF. Mail it without one and Safe-Guard will send it back. The online route avoids this because Safe-Guard reaches out to the dealer on your behalf.
If your request is denied, read the denial reason carefully. The likely explanations are that the product is noncancelable, you missed a contractual deadline, or your documentation was incomplete. For incomplete submissions, Safe-Guard’s team will usually tell you exactly what’s missing. For a noncancelable product, the agreement’s terms control.
If the denial feels wrong or the refund looks low, compare your agreement’s cancellation terms line by line against what you received. Contact the dealership’s finance manager first, since the dealer issues the refund. If that doesn’t resolve it, call Safe-Guard at 1-800-742-7896. Keep a written record of every call, including the name of the person you spoke with and the date, in case you need to escalate.
