To set up direct deposit into a Renasant Bank account, complete a direct deposit authorization form using Renasant’s nine-digit routing number, 084201294, along with your account number, then submit the signed form to your employer’s payroll department. That is the whole task. The Renasant Bank direct deposit form itself is short; the details below cover where to get it, how to fill each field correctly, and what to expect after you turn it in.
Where to Get the Form
Most employers hand you their own direct deposit authorization form during onboarding or make one available through an internal payroll portal. Use that version when it exists. Payroll providers sometimes generate a prefilled form once you enter your banking details, which saves you from copying numbers by hand.
If your employer doesn’t supply a form and will accept a bank-issued one, you can pick up a generic version at any Renasant branch or call the Customer Experience Center at 1-877-367-5371 and request a direct deposit authorization letter. A representative can also confirm your account details by phone once they verify your identity.
Finding Your Routing and Account Numbers
Renasant uses a single routing number for every account: 084201294. It appears on the bank’s checking account page1Renasant Bank. Checking Account – Open Bank Account Online and as the first nine digits printed along the bottom-left edge of any Renasant check.
Your account number is the longer string to the right of the routing number on a check. If you don’t have checks, log in to Renasant’s online banking or mobile app; the full account number is on the account details screen once you’re authenticated.2Nacha. Direct Deposit Without a Voided Check? Absolutely! You can also call 1-877-367-5371 and have a representative read the numbers to you after identity verification.
Watch out for one common mistake. The short number on the far right of the check’s bottom line is the check number, not the account number. It changes with every check. Copy that by mistake and your deposit will bounce back.
How to Fill Out the Form
Most direct deposit forms, whether issued by an employer or a bank, ask for the same information in roughly the same order.
Employee Information
Enter your full legal name as it appears on your payroll records, not a nickname. Add your current street address, city, state, and ZIP. Many forms also ask for your Social Security number for tax reporting3Mississippi University for Women. Bank Account Details
Write the routing number (084201294) and your account number in the designated fields. Check the box for the correct account type, checking or savings. Picking the wrong type will cause the deposit to fail. If you’re splitting your pay between two accounts, complete a separate line for each.
Deposit Allocation
You can send your entire net pay to one account or split it across multiple accounts. Splitting works well when you want a fixed amount routed to savings each pay period and the rest into checking. When splitting, designate one account as the “balance” or “remainder” account so any fluctuation in your pay flows to a single predictable place.
Signature and Date
Sign and date the form. Your signature authorizes your employer to deposit funds into the accounts you listed and tells the bank to accept those transfers.3Mississippi University for Women. Voided Check or an Accepted Alternative
Payroll typically wants a voided check attached so they can cross-check the printed routing and account numbers against what you wrote. To void a check, write “VOID” in large letters across the face of an unused check. Don’t sign it or fill in a payee or amount.
If you don’t have checks, these alternatives usually work:
- A printed screenshot of your online banking account details showing both numbers.
- A bank verification letter from Renasant. Call 1-877-367-5371 and request one on bank letterhead.
- A preprinted deposit slip from your checkbook, though not every employer accepts these.
Ask payroll first. Some departments insist on a voided check; others accept any document that clearly shows both numbers.
What Happens After You Submit
Hand the completed form to human resources or payroll, or upload it through your employer’s secure portal.5Capital One. Direct Deposit Form Keep a copy.
Before your first live deposit, payroll may send a prenote through the ACH network. That’s a zero-dollar test transaction that confirms the routing and account numbers are valid. A prenote settles in about three business days. If nothing gets flagged, live deposits can start after that window. If it bounces, payroll will contact you to correct the details before trying again.
Expect the full changeover to take one to two pay cycles. You may still receive a paper check for the first payday after submission, so that isn’t a sign anything went wrong. Once electronic pay begins, compare the amount and allocation to your pay stub.
Direct Deposit for Federal Benefits
The employer form doesn’t apply to Social Security, VA, or other federal payments. Each agency handles direct deposit through its own channel:
- Social Security and SSI: log in to my Social Security at ssa.gov, call 1-800-772-1213, or enroll through the Treasury’s Go Direct program at godirect.gov or 1-800-333-1795.6Social Security Administration. Direct Deposit

As of late 2025, Treasury has sharply limited paper check payments for federal benefits. If you’re still getting paper, switching now avoids delays.
Changing or Canceling Direct Deposit
Switching to a different account works the same way as the initial setup. Complete a new form with the updated numbers and give it to payroll. If you’re moving between two Renasant accounts, the routing number stays the same; only the account number changes.
Timing matters here. Keep the old account open until you see at least one successful deposit in the new one. Close it too early and your paycheck has nowhere to land. Plan on waiting through two full pay cycles after submitting the change before shutting the old account.
To stop direct deposit and revert to paper checks, submit a written request to payroll. Some states require employers to offer a paper check option, so you generally cannot be forced to keep direct deposit if you’d rather not.
Catching Errors
Check your account every payday and confirm the deposit amount and allocation match your pay stub. Transposed digits, payroll glitches, and wrong-account-type deposits do happen.
Under federal Regulation E, you have 60 days from the date the bank sends the statement showing an error or unauthorized transfer to report it.9Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. 12 CFR Part 1005 Section 1005.11 – Procedures for Resolving Errors Report an unauthorized transfer within two business days and your maximum liability is $50. To report a problem, call Renasant at 1-877-367-5371 or visit a branch with the account number, transaction date, and amount ready. Once you file notice, the bank must investigate and resolve the dispute within the timeframes Regulation E sets.
