Every traveler heading to Jamaica must complete the Jamaica Electronic C5 form at enterjamaica.gov.jm before reaching the immigration counter. The form is free, combines immigration and customs into one submission, and can be filed up to 30 days before arrival. The Passport, Immigration and Citizenship Agency (PICA) runs the portal and processes every submission.1Passport, Immigration and Citizenship Agency. Passport, Immigration and Citizenship Agency
When to File and What It Costs
The electronic C5 became mandatory on September 1, 2023, replacing the paper cards that used to be handed out during flights.2Jamaica Customs Agency. Passenger You can complete it any time within 30 days of your arrival date. There’s no reason to wait until you’re at the gate.
There is no application fee and no processing fee. The C5 is completely free.2Jamaica Customs Agency. Passenger Any site that asks you to pay is not the official portal. The only legitimate address is enterjamaica.gov.jm. Close anything else.
PICA notes that paper C5 forms are still recognized alongside the electronic version, so if the website was genuinely unreachable before your flight, a physical form filled out at the airport is a fallback. Electronic submission is strongly preferred and avoids delay at the counter.3Passport, Immigration and Citizenship Agency. Travel Documents Required
What to Have Ready Before You Start
Gather these before you open the form. Switching between apps mid-entry is where typos creep in, and a mismatch between your form and your passport is the fastest way to get pulled aside at immigration.
- Your valid passport. You’ll enter the number and country of issue exactly as printed.
- Your flight or ship details. The form has a dropdown of airlines and cruise vessels by name, plus a “Private Flight” option.
- The specific physical address where you’re staying in Jamaica. A hotel name alone may not be enough.
- Your total luggage count, checked bags and carry-ons combined.
- An email address you can check from your phone. Your confirmation goes there.
Foreign nationals may also need a valid Jamaican entry visa depending on their country of citizenship. Have that visa information handy if it applies to you.3Passport, Immigration and Citizenship Agency. Travel Documents Required
Filling Out the Four Sections
The form is organized into four parts.
Personal Information
Enter your birth date, gender, and home address including country. The form also asks how many family members are traveling with you, with a dropdown from zero to five. Selecting a number here lets you include family members on a single submission rather than filing separately for each person.4Passport Immigration and Citizenship Agency. Electronic C5 If your group exceeds five, an additional form covers the rest.
Passport Details
Type your passport number and issuing country exactly as printed. The common error is transposing digits or picking the wrong country from the dropdown. Check both fields against the physical passport.
Trip Details
Choose the country you’re departing from, your airline or cruise ship from the dropdown, your purpose of visit, and your length of stay. Purpose options include vacation, visiting friends or relatives, business, honeymoon or wedding, work, resident, and in-transit. Vacation covers most leisure travelers. You’ll also enter the number of pieces of luggage (checked and hand luggage combined) and any packages you’ve shipped separately by air or sea, such as barrels or boxes.4Passport Immigration and Citizenship Agency. Electronic C5
Customs Declaration
The last section is a checklist of eight categories. Answer yes or no for each, declaring whether you’re bringing any of the following into Jamaica:
- Agricultural items: fruits, plants, cut flowers, vegetables, soil, meat, live animals, honey, wildlife products, or food.
- Pharmaceuticals or chemicals, including biological substances.
- Illicit drugs or narcotics.
- Radioactive or nuclear substances.
- Weapons: arms, ammunition, explosives, fireworks, or toy guns.
- Cash or monetary instruments over $10,000 USD equivalent, in any currency.
- Goods exceeding your duty-free allowance.
- Gifts or articles intended for resale.
If you check yes on any item, you’ll provide a value and select a currency. The form’s own guidance: when in doubt, declare it and sort it out with the customs officer. Underdeclaring creates bigger problems than overdeclaring.4Passport Immigration and Citizenship Agency. Electronic C5
Duty-Free Thresholds the Form Is Measuring Against
The customs section asks whether your goods exceed your duty-free allowance. Passengers 18 and older may bring in personal and household effects, including gifts, worth up to $500 USD without paying duties.5Jamaica Customs Agency. What Are My Duty-Free Allowances and Exemptions Tobacco and alcohol limits for adults are:
- 200 cigarettes, 50 cigars, or half a pound of loose tobacco.
- One quart (or one litre) of spirits, cordials, or wine.
Anything past these quantities or past the $500 general allowance triggers duty. If you know you’re over — expensive electronics, several bottles of rum as gifts — check yes and be ready to pay at the airport.6Embassy of Jamaica. Customs Regulations
The $10,000 Currency Rule
Anyone entering Jamaica with cash or monetary instruments worth more than $10,000 USD equivalent must declare the amount on the C5.7Jamaica Information Service. Persons Entering Jamaica With Money Exceeding US$10,000 Must Declare It “Monetary instruments” includes checks and drafts, not just banknotes, and the threshold applies to the total across every form of money you’re carrying.
Jamaica’s Financial Investigation Division has said that a traveler who fails to declare may face a court case.7Jamaica Information Service. Persons Entering Jamaica With Money Exceeding US$10,000 Must Declare It There is no penalty for declaring money you’re legally allowed to carry. If you’re near the threshold, declare.
Prescription Medications
Traveling with prescription drugs is flagged in the customs section. Jamaica requires that all prescriptions be carried in their original, clearly labeled containers along with a copy of each prescription showing drug name, quantity, strength, and dosage. You also need a letter from your doctor stating the condition being treated.8Embassy of Jamaica in Brussels. Importation of Prescription Drugs to Jamaica
Prescriptions containing narcotic substances (opioids, certain painkillers) require a special permit from Jamaica’s Ministry of Health and Wellness. Apply by contacting the Chief Dangerous Drugs Inspector with your physician’s letter, the prescription details, your flight information, your Jamaican accommodation address, and contact details for you and your doctor. The Ministry sends the approved permit directly to you, and you must carry it on entry.8Embassy of Jamaica in Brussels. After You Submit
Once you review the summary and hit submit, the system generates a confirmation with a QR code or reference number. PICA also emails the confirmation to the address you provided. Save it where you can pull it up without internet: a screenshot on your phone or a printed copy both work.
There is no edit function after submission. If you spot an error — wrong flight number, misspelled name — complete a new form with the correct information. Having an accurate, up-to-date form matters more than having only one on file.
What Happens at the Airport
When you land, head to the immigration hall. You’ll speak with an officer or use an automated passport control kiosk, depending on the airport and lane. Have your passport and your C5 confirmation ready. The officer verifies that the electronic record matches your passport and travel details.3Passport, Immigration and Citizenship Agency. Travel Documents Required
After immigration, collect your luggage and go to the customs checkpoint. If you declared items, a customs officer may inspect your bags to confirm what you reported. Travelers who declared nothing can still be selected for a random check. That’s routine.
Travelers who arrive without a completed C5 or valid travel documents may be refused entry or held until their identity and eligibility are confirmed.3Passport, Immigration and Citizenship Agency. Travel Documents Required Filing before you fly is the simplest way to skip that risk entirely.
