What the Claim Form Asked For
The form was short. It asked for your first and last name, current mailing address, the email address or phone number tied to your Instagram account, and your Instagram username.2Instagram BIPA Settlement. Parris v. To file, you had to have used Instagram while physically in Illinois at any point between August 10, 2015, and August 16, 2023.3Instagram Privacy Settlement. Instagram Privacy Settlement Being in the state during that window mattered; being a permanent resident did not.
Payment Method You Selected
The form gave four ways to receive your money, and whichever one you picked is the one the administrator used. There was no documented process for switching methods after submission.4Angeion Group. - A virtual prepaid card, sent to the email address on the form.
- Venmo, sent to the mobile number on your Venmo account.
- Zelle, sent to the mobile number or email tied to your Zelle account.
- A physical check, mailed to the street address on the form.

How the Form Was Submitted
Claims could be filed online at www.instagrambipasettlement.com or by mailing a paper form to Instagram Privacy Settlement, c/o Administrator, 1650 Arch Street, Suite 2210, Philadelphia, PA 19103.2Instagram BIPA Settlement. When Payments Went Out
After the claim window closed, the case moved through final approval hearings on November 21, 2023, and March 7, 2024, with the court finding the settlement fair, reasonable, and adequate.5Angeion Group. Payments were sent to approved claimants on June 6 and 7, 2024, using the payment method each person had selected on the form.1Instagram Privacy Settlement. If Your Payment Never Arrived
If you chose Venmo, Zelle, or a virtual prepaid card, you should have received a notification from that provider. In some cases you had to log in and accept the funds before they settled. Electronic payments that weren’t accepted within 30 days failed automatically and were reissued as paper checks to the mailing address on your claim form.1Instagram Privacy Settlement. If you picked a paper check and it hadn’t arrived by July 7, 2024, the settlement website offered a reissue request. The first round of reissued checks went out 45 to 60 days after the original disbursement date.1Instagram Privacy Settlement. Taxes on the Payment
BIPA settlement money isn’t compensation for a physical injury, so it doesn’t qualify for the tax exclusion under IRC Section 104. The payment is generally taxable income that should be reported on your federal return.6IRS.
