How to Fill Out and Submit the IndusInd Bank Account Closure Form

To close an IndusInd Bank savings or current account, you fill out the IndusInd Bank account closure form and submit it in person at the branch where the account was opened. The form is a single page titled “Account Closure / Fixed Deposit Premature Withdrawal Form,” available for download from IndusInd Bank’s Form Center or at any branch counter.1IndusInd Bank. Banking Form Center There is no online or mobile closure option. Before you go, a few preparation steps will keep the request from stalling.

Prepare the Account First

A clean account is what makes the closure go through on the first try. Three things to settle before your branch visit:

  • Bring the balance close to zero. If you want the leftover amount sent to another account, you can leave it in place and let the form handle the transfer; otherwise, withdraw it in advance.
  • Cancel every standing instruction and auto-debit linked to the account: SIPs, insurance premiums, utility bills, loan EMIs. IndusInd Bank’s e-mandate portal lets you cancel recurring mandates online. An auto-debit that hits after you’ve filed the closure request can push the account negative or trigger a failed-transaction penalty.2IndusInd Bank. E-Mandate Payment Service
  • Clear any negative balance or unpaid charges. The closure charges themselves are deducted from your closing balance, so leave enough in the account to cover them.3IndusInd Bank. Account Closure and Term Deposit Premature Withdrawal Form

Filling Out the Form

The top half of the form handles savings and current account closures. The bottom half is for breaking fixed deposits early. If you’re only closing a savings or current account, ignore the fixed deposit section.3IndusInd Bank. Account Closure and Term Deposit Premature Withdrawal Form

Account Number and Holder Names

Enter the account number and the date in DD/MM/YYYY format at the top. Below that, write the full legal name of each account holder. The form has fields for up to three holders. Every name must match the bank’s records exactly. For a joint account, all holders listed on the account must sign at the bottom of the form.4IndusInd Bank. How You Want the Balance Paid Out

Pick one of four payout methods:

  • Credit to another bank account. Fill in the beneficiary account number, bank name and branch, IFSC code, and bank address. The transfer goes via NEFT. Double-check the IFSC code; a wrong code is the easiest way to delay the proceeds.
  • Credit to another IndusInd Bank account. Just the beneficiary account number is needed.
  • Demand draft, issued in your name. This carries a separate fee based on the amount.
  • Cash, available only if your closing balance is ₹20,000 or less. Income tax rules prohibit cash payouts above that threshold.

The four options and the ₹20,000 cash ceiling are printed on the form itself.3IndusInd Bank. Account Closure and Term Deposit Premature Withdrawal Form

Reason for Closure

The form lists twelve pre-printed reasons. Tick the one closest to your situation. Options cover job changes, moving to a city without an IndusInd branch, dissatisfaction with service or minimum balance requirements, deceased account holders, minor-to-major conversions, and accounts opened in error.3IndusInd Bank. What to Bring to the Branch

  • KYC identification: Aadhaar and PAN. For a current account held by a business entity, bring the Aadhaar and PAN of every authorized signatory.4IndusInd Bank. How Do I Close Current Account, If I Don’t Close What Will Happen
  • Your entire chequebook, including any unused leaves. The branch destroys remaining leaves on the spot as a fraud-prevention measure.
  • The passbook.4IndusInd Bank. How Do I Close Current Account, If I Don’t Close What Will Happen
  • Any debit card issued on the account. The bank officer will cut or hole-punch it.
  • The completed closure form. You can fill it in at home, but sign it at the branch in front of the officer so your signature can be verified.

Closure Charges to Expect

There is no fee if you close a savings account within the first 14 days of opening, or any time after six months. Close it between day 14 and the six-month mark, and the charge is ₹500 or the remaining balance, whichever is lower.5IndusInd Bank. Schedule of Charges – Salary Savings Account

If you choose a demand draft for the payout, the DD charge through a correspondent bank is ₹3 per ₹1,000, with a minimum of ₹50 and a maximum of ₹5,000 per instrument.5IndusInd Bank. Schedule of Charges – Salary Savings Account An NEFT transfer to another bank account avoids this cost, which is why most people pick that route.

The bank deducts applicable charges from your closing balance before releasing the proceeds. The form itself states: “Closure proceeds shall be the amount that is left over after deduction of Account Closure charges as applicable.”3IndusInd Bank. Submitting the Form and What Happens Next

Submit the form at your home branch, meaning the branch where the account was originally opened. IndusInd Bank does not offer an online or app-based closure option.4IndusInd Bank. How Do I Close Current Account, If I Don’t Close What Will Happen At the counter, the officer completes the “For Bank Use Only” section on the back of the form, stamps it, and signs. Ask for the customer acknowledgment slip at the bottom of the form. It records the date, your account number, the chosen mode of payment, and the officer’s name. Keep that slip until you receive final confirmation.

Processing usually takes a few business days while the bank checks for pending transactions, holds, or charges. Once everything clears, confirmation arrives by SMS or email to the contact details registered on the account. If nothing comes through within a week, call IndusInd Bank customer care at 1860 267 7777 within India, or +91 22 68577777 from abroad.6IndusInd Bank. Other Products Don’t Close Automatically

Closing the savings or current account does not shut down other IndusInd Bank products linked to it. A demat or trading account held through IndusInd Bank’s depository participant services needs a separate closure request with its own form. Fixed deposits can be broken using the bottom section of the same closure form, or left to mature and redirected elsewhere. Credit cards operate independently and require a separate cancellation. Make a list of every product tied to the account before you submit the form, because missing one can produce charges or statements months after you thought the relationship was closed.

If You’re a U.S. Taxpayer

Closing the account does not end U.S. reporting obligations for the year the account was open. Two filings may still apply.

An FBAR (FinCEN Form 114) is required if the combined value of all your foreign financial accounts exceeded $10,000 at any point during the calendar year, even if the IndusInd Bank account was closed partway through. The FBAR is filed electronically through the FinCEN BSA E-Filing System, separately from your tax return. The due date is April 15, with an automatic extension to October 15 if missed. Keep records of the account name, number, branch address, account type, and maximum balance during the year for at least five years from the FBAR’s due date.7Internal Revenue Service. Report of Foreign Bank and Financial Accounts (FBAR)

Form 8938 (FATCA) is a separate filing that goes with your federal tax return if your total specified foreign financial assets cross higher thresholds. For unmarried taxpayers living in the U.S., the trigger is more than $50,000 on the last day of the tax year or more than $75,000 at any point during the year. Married couples filing jointly face a $100,000 year-end or $150,000 any-time threshold. These apply to the total of all specified foreign assets, not the IndusInd Bank account alone.8Internal Revenue Service. Do I Need to File Form 8938, Statement of Specified Foreign Financial Assets
