To set up direct deposit with IBC Bank, fill out a Direct Deposit Authorization form from whoever is paying you (your employer, the Social Security Administration, or another payer), enter your name, IBC account number, account type, and the nine-digit IBC routing number for the region where you opened your account, then submit the signed form back to the payer with a voided check or an IBC verification letter attached. The IBC Bank direct deposit form is not something you turn in at a branch; the bank only receives the money, while the payer configures the transfer through the ACH network.1Bureau of the Fiscal Service. What You Need Before You Start
Every direct deposit form asks for the same handful of details. Gather these before you sit down with it:
- Your full legal name, exactly as it appears on your IBC account. A mismatch can cause the deposit to be returned.
- Your IBC account number. You can find it on a check (the digits to the right of the routing number), on a statement, or through IBC’s online banking.
- The nine-digit routing number for your IBC region (see the next section).
- Your account type: checking or savings.
- Your Social Security number or tax ID, which many employer forms require for payroll matching.
One distinction worth keeping straight: the routing number used for direct deposit is the ACH routing number, which is what employer payroll runs through. Wire transfers use a separate system and sometimes a different number. When a payroll form asks for a routing number, it wants the ACH number.
IBC Bank Routing Numbers by Region
IBC Bank does not use a single routing number. The right one depends on where your account was opened, and using the wrong one will delay or reject your deposit. If you opened your account at one branch and later moved, use the routing number tied to the original branch. Here are the numbers IBC lists on its website:2IBC Bank. Contact Us

The fastest way to confirm your number is to look at the bottom-left corner of an IBC check, where the routing number is printed before the account number. You can also call IBC or stop by a branch and ask for a bank specification sheet, which is a letter on bank letterhead verifying your routing and account details.
Voided Check or IBC Verification Letter
Most employers ask you to attach a voided check to your authorization form. The voided check lets payroll cross-reference the numbers you wrote against the numbers pre-printed on the check and catch typos before they cause problems. Write “VOID” in large letters across the face of a blank check so it cannot be cashed.
If you don’t have checks, IBC Bank can provide a direct deposit verification letter on bank letterhead that confirms your account number, routing number, and account holder name. Visit any IBC branch with a valid photo ID to request one, or check whether your online banking dashboard offers a downloadable version. Employers generally accept this letter in place of a voided check.
Filling In the Form
Most direct deposit forms are one page and take a few minutes. Your employer or payer provides the form itself, sometimes on paper during onboarding and sometimes inside an online payroll portal. A few things trip people up:
Write your account number carefully. Transposing two digits is easy to do and hard to catch on paper. If the receiving bank cannot match the account number to an existing account, the deposit gets kicked back with an ACH return code (R03 means no matching account was found, R04 means the account number structure is wrong), and the return takes about two banking days to process.3CCBill. ACH Return Codes Explained While that happens, you wait for a paper check or a corrected re-deposit.
If the form includes a deposit-amount field and you want your entire paycheck going to one account, select “100%,” “entire net pay,” or whatever equivalent the form uses. Then sign and date the form. The signature authorizes the payer to initiate electronic deposits; without it, most payroll departments will send the form back.
Where to Submit the Form
The completed form goes to your payer, not to IBC Bank. Where you submit depends on who’s paying you:
- For employer payroll, hand the form to HR or payroll. Many companies now use self-service portals where you enter your banking details directly and skip the paper form.
- For Social Security benefits, update your direct deposit through your my Social Security account online, through the automated enrollment process at your bank, or by calling the SSA.4Social Security Administration. Update Direct Deposit
- For an IRS tax refund, enter your IBC routing and account numbers directly on your tax return (Form 1040, line 35). The IRS limits direct deposits to three refunds per bank account per calendar year; a fourth refund automatically converts to a paper check.5Internal Revenue Service. Direct Deposit Limits
Keep a copy of what you submitted. If a deposit goes missing weeks later, your own copy makes it much easier to trace the problem.
When the First Deposit Will Arrive
Direct deposit rarely kicks in on the very next payday. Most employers need one to two full pay cycles to process the setup, and during that window you’ll likely receive a paper check or a pay card.
Part of the delay comes from a prenote, a zero-dollar test transaction the payer sends through the ACH network to confirm that the routing and account numbers connect to a valid, open account at IBC Bank.6Modern Treasury. What Is an ACH Prenote? If the prenote bounces, payroll finds out the account details are wrong before any real money moves. Not every employer sends a prenote; some skip it and send the first live deposit directly. When they do send one, it adds a few days.
Once you’re past the activation window, check your IBC account through the mobile app or online banking on payday. ACH transfers also do not process on Federal Reserve holidays, so a payday that falls on or near one may land a business day earlier or later than usual.7Federal Reserve. Federal Reserve System Holiday Schedule If the deposit doesn’t appear by the expected date, contact your employer’s payroll department first. The issue almost always originates on the payer’s side, not at the bank.
Splitting Your Paycheck Between Accounts
If you want part of your paycheck going to an IBC savings account and the rest to checking, most employers allow split deposits. You provide the routing and account numbers for each account along with an allocation, either a fixed dollar amount or a percentage of your net pay.8Nacha. Split Deposit A common setup is directing a flat $200 per paycheck into savings and the remainder into checking.
Designate one account as the “remainder” or “balance” account. That account receives whatever is left after the fixed-amount deposits are made. Avoid assigning specific dollar amounts to every account, because if your paycheck varies even slightly from overtime, deductions, or tax adjustments, the numbers won’t add up and the whole deposit could bounce. If you’re splitting between IBC Bank and another institution, you’ll need both banks’ routing and account numbers, and the prenote verification applies to each account individually.
If a Deposit Goes to the Wrong Account
Errors fall into two categories. When the account number doesn’t exist or has an invalid structure, the receiving bank returns the transfer using an ACH return code (R03 or R04), and the funds go back to the originator within about two banking days.3CCBill. ACH Return Codes Explained When the routing and account numbers are valid but belong to the wrong person, the bank has no automatic reason to reject the deposit. You’ll need to work with your employer’s payroll department to initiate a reversal through the ACH network, and the other account holder’s bank has to cooperate in returning the funds, which can take considerably longer.
Regulation E gives you specific protections for electronic fund transfer errors. If you notify your bank of a problem within 60 days of receiving the statement that first shows the error, the bank must investigate within 10 business days and report its findings within three business days after that. The bank can extend the investigation to 45 days, but it must provisionally credit your account within 10 business days while it works.9Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. 12 CFR 1005.11 – Procedures for Resolving Errors If a paycheck doesn’t arrive when expected, call HR and your bank the same day. The faster you report it, the better the chances of recovering diverted funds.
