How to Fill Out and Submit the Greenlight Direct Deposit Form

To set up direct deposit on a Greenlight card, open the Greenlight app, pull the routing number and account number from the Direct Deposit screen (or export the prefilled authorization PDF), and submit them to your employer’s payroll department. The whole process takes about five minutes on your end, and the first electronic paycheck usually lands within one to two pay cycles after your employer processes the information.

Who Can Set Up Greenlight Direct Deposit

Direct deposit is only available for kids aged 13 and older. Children under 13 cannot receive direct deposits onto a Greenlight card, regardless of which subscription plan the family is on.1Greenlight. What Is Direct Deposit and How Does It Work? Where to Find the Form in the App

Greenlight accounts are held at Community Federal Savings Bank (CFSB), the FDIC-member partner bank behind every Greenlight card.2Ohio Valley Bank. If You’re the Teen

Open the Greenlight app and tap the settings gear in the top-right corner of the home tab. Tap Direct deposit. The screen shows a nine-digit routing number and your unique account number. From the same screen, you can generate a prefilled direct deposit authorization form as a PDF, which you can save to your phone or email to yourself for printing.1Greenlight. Submitting the Information to the Employer

Most employers run direct deposit enrollment through a self-service payroll portal like ADP, Workday, or Gusto. Log in, open the direct deposit or banking section, and enter the routing number, account number, and account type (checking) exactly as they appear in the Greenlight app.3ADP. How to Set Up Direct Deposit for Employees and Employers Some portals also let you upload the PDF authorization form as supporting documentation.

If the employer doesn’t use a digital portal, print the authorization PDF from the app and give it to the manager or payroll contact. Either way, ask for written confirmation once the information is in the system. The financial institution on file should read Community Federal Savings Bank. A different name usually means the routing number was keyed in wrong.

Many employers will also split a paycheck across more than one account. If the teen wants part of each check going to a separate savings account or to a parent’s bank, ask payroll about partial direct deposit and designate a dollar amount or percentage for the Greenlight account, with the remainder going elsewhere.

When the First Deposit Will Land

After the employer processes the new banking information, the payroll system typically sends a prenote, which is a zero-dollar test transaction to verify that the routing and account numbers are valid before any real money moves. This is standard banking practice, not something unique to Greenlight. During that verification window, the first paycheck after enrollment often arrives as a paper check or hits whatever account was previously on file.

Plan on one to two full pay cycles before the electronic link is active. The exact timing depends on the employer’s payroll schedule and how quickly they submit the prenote. Once it’s live, deposits land on the scheduled payday. Greenlight processes direct deposits Monday through Friday and observes federal and bank holidays, so a payday falling on a weekend or holiday may shift to the next business day.1Greenlight. Once the link is active, Greenlight can make funds available up to two days before the scheduled payday. Nothing extra needs to be enabled in the app. Early access depends on when the employer sends the payroll file, so if payroll goes out ahead of schedule, Greenlight processes the deposit as soon as it arrives. If payroll runs on the normal timeline, the deposit lands on payday. Early deposit is never guaranteed, but it works often enough that most teens with a regular payroll employer will see it at least some of the time.4Greenlight. If a Deposit Doesn’t Show Up

The most common cause is a data entry mistake, usually a wrong digit in the routing or account number. Beyond that, Greenlight enforces several balance and load limits that can block a deposit entirely:1Greenlight. What Is Direct Deposit and How Does It Work? And Other Direct Deposit FAQs

  • A monthly family load limit on cumulative incoming transfers across the whole family account.
  • An individual balance cap on the teen’s secondary account.
  • A family-wide balance cap across all accounts combined.

Greenlight publishes the current dollar figures on its website and updates them periodically, so check the numbers before the first deposit is expected. If a deposit fails for any of these reasons, the funds are returned to the employer rather than lost.
