How to Fill Out and Submit the EasyJet EU261 Compensation Form

To claim fixed compensation from EasyJet for a delayed, cancelled, or overbooked flight, submit the EasyJet EU261 compensation form at easyjet.com/en/claim/EU261. Payouts are set by flight distance: €250 to €600 under EU Regulation 261/2004, or £220 to £520 under the UK equivalent. The form takes a few minutes if you have your booking reference, flight number, and passenger details in front of you, and it cannot be saved partway through.

Before You Open the Form

The portal won’t let you pause and come back, so gather everything first.

  • Booking reference: a code starting with E or K on your confirmation email or boarding pass, in the format EX4MPL3.1easyJet. Compensation Claims Portal
  • Flight number: begins with EZY, EJU, or EZS. Enter only the digits that follow.2easyJet. Expense Claim Form
  • Date of travel: the original scheduled departure date, even if you actually flew the following day.
  • Departure and arrival airports: as they appear on your original booking, not on any rebooking.
  • Passenger names: the full legal name of everyone you are claiming for, spelled exactly as on the booking.
  • Bank country: the country where the receiving account is held. EasyJet asks for full payment details later through a secure link.

Keep digital copies of your boarding pass, any disruption notification EasyJet sent by email, SMS, or app, and screenshots of the delay display at the airport. These are not always required at submission, but if the airline questions the claim, having them ready shortens the dispute.

Filling Out and Submitting the Form

Go directly to easyjet.com/en/claim/EU261. The general Contact Us page and the feedback form are not processed as formal compensation claims, so a submission there will not start the eight-week clock that matters if you later need to escalate.

The form uses drop-down menus for the type of disruption (delay, cancellation, or denied boarding) and text fields for the booking reference, flight number, date, and passenger names. Enter each item exactly as it appears on your travel documents. Mismatches between the name on the form and the name on the booking are the most common reason claims get pulled out for manual review, which adds days or weeks.

When you submit, the system generates a claim reference number and sends a confirmation email. Save both. That reference is the only way to track progress, and it is the first thing any agent will ask for.

EasyJet does not publish a specific response deadline for EU261 claims. If the claim is approved, the airline emails a secure link to enter your bank details, and payment generally lands within seven days of approval, though international transfers or currency conversion can add a few days at your bank’s end. If eight weeks pass without a meaningful response, you have met the threshold for external escalation.

Whether Your Flight Qualifies

EU Regulation 261/2004 and the UK equivalent (UK261) cover three situations. Your flight arrived at its final destination more than three hours late. Your flight was cancelled with fewer than 14 days’ notice. Or you were denied boarding because the airline oversold the flight, through no fault of your own.3European Union. Air Passenger Rights

The disruption must be the airline’s fault. Technical faults, crew shortages, and operational decisions qualify. Severe weather, air traffic control restrictions, political instability, and security threats are treated as extraordinary circumstances, and no fixed compensation is owed when those genuinely caused the problem.3European Union. Air Passenger Rights EasyJet has to prove the circumstances were extraordinary; you do not have to disprove it.

The rules cover any flight leaving an EU or UK airport, and flights arriving in the EU or UK from outside when operated by an EU or UK carrier. A connecting itinerary booked as a single reservation is treated as one journey, so a delay on the first leg that causes you to miss the second still counts, with the clock running to your final destination.

How Much EasyJet Will Pay

Compensation is fixed by flight distance, measured as a straight line between airports:

  • Short-haul (1,500 km or less): €250 per passenger. Covers routes like London to Amsterdam or Paris to Geneva.
  • Medium-haul (1,500 to 3,500 km, or over 1,500 km within the EU): €400 per passenger.
  • Long-haul (over 3,500 km): €600 per passenger.4European Union. Regulation EC 261/2004 – Article 7

For flights governed by UK261, the equivalents in pounds are £220 short-haul, £350 medium-haul, and £520 long-haul. On long-haul flights, if you arrived between three and four hours late, the UK amount drops to £260.5UK Civil Aviation Authority. Delays

If EasyJet rebooks you onto an alternative flight that gets you close to your original arrival time, the airline can halve the payout. The thresholds for that 50% reduction are two hours for short-haul, three hours for medium-haul, and four hours for long-haul.4European Union. Regulation EC 261/2004 – Article 7 Payment must be in cash or by bank transfer unless you specifically agree to vouchers; the airline cannot impose them.

Meals, Hotels, and Other Expenses Go on a Different Form

Money you spent during the disruption itself, on meals, refreshments, hotels, or transport to and from a hotel, is claimed separately at easyjet.com/en/claim/welfare, not on the EU261 form. Care and assistance is owed while you wait: meals and refreshments plus two phone calls or emails after two hours on short-haul flights, three hours on medium-haul, and four hours on long-haul, and hotel accommodation with transport for overnight delays.3European Union. Air Passenger Rights

At the airport, EasyJet often hands out refreshment vouchers worth around £6 or €9 once a threshold is passed. For overnight stays, the airline books three-star or equivalent hotels and covers an evening meal and breakfast, or reimburses up to £25 per person per day if the hotel cannot provide food. Transport covers taxis, buses, and metro, not private cars.6easyJet. Delays and Cancellations

If you paid out of pocket because none of that was arranged at the airport, submit receipts through the expense form. Each receipt has to clearly show the date, location, and amount. EasyJet will not reimburse pre-booked hotel stays at your destination, airport parking, car hire, or missed excursions, only costs caused directly by the disruption while you were stranded.2easyJet. Expense Claim Form The expense form uses a fixed list of eligible categories; anything outside those categories will not be accepted. Stick to standard-class transport and reasonable food and non-alcoholic drinks.

If EasyJet Rejects the Claim

Denials happen, and they often cite extraordinary circumstances. Your first step is making sure your complaint was in writing; a phone call alone does not count for escalation. You then need either a final written response from EasyJet (sometimes called a deadlock letter) that you disagree with, or eight weeks passed since you filed without a resolution.7AviationADR. EasyJet Complaints – How to Complain About an easyJet Flight

With one of those in hand, take the dispute to AviationADR, the CAA-approved alternative dispute resolution scheme that handles EasyJet complaints. The service is free for passengers and usually decides within three months.8UK Civil Aviation Authority. Alternative Dispute Resolution You can file online at aviationadr.org.uk, by post to AviationADR at Stratford Office Village, Unit 12 Walker Avenue, Wolverton, Milton Keynes MK12 5TW, or by phone on 0203 540 8063. An ADR decision can be binding on the airline, unlike a referral to the CAA’s own Passenger Advice and Complaints Team, which can argue your case but cannot force payment.9UK Civil Aviation Authority. How to Make a Complaint

If ADR does not go your way and you still believe the claim is valid, the last option is the small claims process in court. Most passengers never reach that stage.

How Long You Have to File

In England, Wales, and Northern Ireland, the limitation period is six years from the date of the disrupted flight. In Scotland, it is five years.5UK Civil Aviation Authority. Delays For flights governed by EU261 rather than the UK version, the deadline depends on the country whose courts have jurisdiction and ranges from one year in some member states to ten in others. Filing within a few weeks of the disruption tends to move faster, because the airline’s own operational records are still fresh and harder to contest.
