Which Path Applies to Your Situation
Before you open any form, decide which kind of change you actually have.
A minor correction is a booking error: a misspelled first name, a missing middle initial, first and last name swapped in the system, or an added surname you forgot to include. The passenger is still you, and your government ID hasn’t changed. These go through Delta reservations at 800-221-1212 or your travel agent, not through the online form.
A legal name change is different. Your name on your passport or Real ID is now different from the name Delta has for you, because of a marriage, divorce, or court order. This is what the Identity Verification Form exists for. The underlying passenger has to stay the same person — Delta tickets are valid only for the named passenger and are not transferable, so the form cannot be used to reassign a ticket to someone else.1Delta Air Lines. Documents to Gather Before You Start
Delta’s verification team needs proof of the change plus proof of your current identity. Pull everything together before you open the form so you’re not scanning documents mid-submission.
- Marriage: a certified marriage certificate issued by a government clerk or registrar.
- Divorce: a certified copy of the final divorce decree showing your restored or new legal name.
- Court order: the signed court order granting the name change.
- Updated government ID: a clear scan of your current passport or Real ID-compliant driver’s license showing the new name. This is what TSA will compare against your boarding pass, so the names need to line up.
Scan everything at high resolution. Blurry crops and cut-off corners are the most common reason a submission gets bounced back for resubmission. If you’ve already gotten your passport or driver’s license reissued in the new name, use that — matching the legal document to a photo ID with the same name gives the reviewer a clean approval path.
How to Fill Out and Submit the Identity Verification Form
The submission path forks depending on whether you can log into your SkyMiles account.
If You Can Log Into Your SkyMiles Account
Sign in at delta.com and go to My Profile, then Basic Info. Look for the Personal Information Change Form to update your name, gender, or date of birth.2Delta Air Lines. If You Can’t Log In
If you’re locked out, don’t remember your credentials, or don’t have a SkyMiles account, go straight to delta.com/contact-us/identity-verification and fill out the Identity Verification Form there.2Delta Air Lines. Filling In the Fields
Enter your name exactly as it currently appears on the account, then provide the corrected version exactly as it reads on your legal documents. Watch hyphens, suffixes, apostrophes, and spacing. Any mismatch between what you type and what your ID shows can flag the submission for manual review and add days to the process.
After You Submit
The system generates a confirmation email with a tracking number once you submit. Delta’s verification team reviews the file and emails you back when the change is approved or if they need more documentation. No official source specifies a processing window, so if your flight is close, call 800-221-1212 after submitting to flag the urgency.
If You Just Have a Typo, Skip the Form
Sending a typo through the Identity Verification Form is the wrong door. For a misspelling or swapped-name error, call Delta reservations at 800-221-1212, or ask your travel agent to fix it in the reservation system. When the Form Alone Won’t Finish the Job
Codeshare and Partner-Operated Segments
Delta’s self-service correction path only works when every flight on the itinerary is operated by Delta or a Delta Connection carrier. If any segment is operated by Aeromexico, Air France, KLM, Korean Air, LATAM, or Virgin Atlantic — or if the itinerary includes travel to or from India — you’ll need to contact Delta’s Global Sales Solutions or call Delta Reservations directly.3Delta Professional. Confirm on the call that the name has been changed in both Delta’s system and the partner carrier’s record, especially if the codeshare flight carries its own confirmation number.
Gender Marker Changes
A gender marker update is a separate process from a name change and can’t be done through the website, the app, or the Identity Verification Form. TSA’s Secure Flight system recognizes M, F, and X, and your reservation has to match whatever appears on the ID you’ll show at the airport. To fix a mismatch, call Delta’s Accessibility and Special Assistance Desk at 1-844-833-1535 or Delta Reservations at 1-866-332-0756 and ask for a “Secure Flight gender marker correction.” Have your booking confirmation and government ID handy. TSA PreCheck and Known Traveler Numbers
Once your name is updated on the Delta side, check that your Trusted Traveler information still lines up. TSA requires an exact match between the name on your airline reservation and the name on your PreCheck enrollment.4TSA. After the correction posts, log into the Fly Delta app or delta.com, open Personal Details, and confirm your Known Traveler ID and Redress Number are still saved and that the profile name matches your ID and your Trusted Traveler record.5Delta Air Lines. International Bookings
On international flights, the name on your boarding pass must match your passport exactly.6Delta Air Lines. Travel Outside of the U.S. If you’ve legally changed your name but haven’t gotten a new passport yet, book under the name currently on the passport, then submit the Identity Verification Form once the new passport arrives. Doing it in that order avoids updating the reservation twice.
Why the Match Matters
