To complete the BetterHelp financial aid application, click the “Apply for Financial Aid” link on the payment page during signup, answer 11 short questions about your employment, household income, dependents, and benefits, and watch your discounted rate appear on screen within minutes. The reduction typically runs 10% to 40% off the standard $70 to $100 weekly subscription, and you can confirm the lower price before entering any card information.
Where the Application Link Appears
The link is not hidden in account settings or routed through a support ticket. After you finish BetterHelp’s intake questionnaire about your therapy goals and preferences, you reach a payment page, and the “Apply for Financial Aid” link sits near the field asking for your payment details.1BetterHelp. If You Already Have an Account
Existing members can still apply when finances change, but the route is indirect. Open your account settings, go to “Payment Settings,” choose “Change membership,” and select the option to cancel. When BetterHelp asks why you’re leaving, pick “I can’t afford it.” A pop-up with the financial aid application appears, and you can complete it without actually canceling.3Choosing Therapy. What the Form Asks
The application has 11 questions. Nothing has to be uploaded, and no account numbers are required, but you should have your household income figures handy before you start.3Choosing Therapy. Does BetterHelp Offer Financial Aid? How It Works & How to Apply
- Your employment status: unemployed, student, hourly, part-time, or full-time.
- Your spouse’s employment status, with the same options plus “I don’t have a spouse.”
- Combined monthly earnings from work, in U.S. dollars.
- Other income sources: Social Security, disability, unemployment, alimony or support payments, public assistance or veteran’s payments, survivor benefits, pension or retirement income, and investment income such as interest, dividends, or rents.
- Whether you are currently on active duty in the U.S. Armed Forces for purposes other than training.
- Whether you are a veteran of the U.S. Armed Forces.
- Number of children you support (those who get more than half their support from you), from 0 to 9.
- Other dependents who live with you and receive more than half their support from you.
- Whether anyone in your household has received SSI, SNAP, free or reduced-price lunch, TANF, or WIC in the past two years.
- Whether you live in an area with a population under 50,000 within 25 miles.
- A yes-or-no question about whether you are a person of color.
Income carries the most weight. BetterHelp uses a sliding scale, so a lower reported household income generally produces a larger discount within the 10% to 40% range.5BetterHelp. A couple of points trip people up. The income question asks for combined earnings, meaning you and your spouse together if you have one. And the “other income” list is long on purpose; leaving a category blank when it applies can lead to adjustments later.
What Happens After You Submit

Combining Financial Aid with HSA or FSA Payment
BetterHelp accepts HSA and FSA cards, and most providers treat the platform as an eligible expense.7BetterHelp. HSA/FSA for Therapy – BetterHelp You enter the card at checkout like any other payment method, and you can split the charge across two cards if the HSA or FSA balance doesn’t cover the full amount.
Nothing on BetterHelp’s site says financial aid blocks you from using an HSA or FSA. Because the aid reduces the subscription price and you still pay the balance yourself, running that balance through tax-advantaged health funds lowers your effective cost further. Insurance acceptance has also been expanding in select states, so it is worth checking during signup whether your plan is in-network.
