The Barclays change of name form is a one-page document you download from the Barclays website (or collect at a branch), complete with your old and new details, sign in both signature boxes, and return by post to Barclays Bank, Leicester, LE87 2BB with certified copies of your name-change evidence. If posting feels like a hassle, you can skip the form and take your original documents into a branch instead.
What You Need Before You Start
Barclays wants proof of why your name changed. The acceptable document depends on your circumstances:
- Marriage: your marriage certificate.
- Divorce: a decree absolute.
- Deed poll: a deed poll certificate, including one you created yourself or bought online. It does not have to be witnessed by a solicitor, but you must sign it and at least one other person must witness it.
- Civil partnership or dissolution: a civil partnership certificate or dissolution documents.
If you are posting the form, send certified copies rather than originals. To certify a document, ask a professional such as a solicitor, dentist, or teacher to sign and date the copy to confirm it matches the original.2GOV.UK. Certifying a Document If you are going into a branch, bring the originals; photocopies will not be accepted in person.
Filling In the Form
The form is short. You enter your details as they currently appear on your Barclays records, including your account number and sort code, and then your new name details. It does not ask for your PIN or online banking credentials. Only the information printed on your statements is needed.3Barclays. Barclays Change of Name Form
There are two signature boxes. One is for your previous signature, the one Barclays currently holds on file, and one is for your new signature. Sign inside each box as directed. This lets the bank confirm you are the existing account holder and updates your signature record at the same time. If you hold more than one account, check whether the form covers all of them or whether you need to list each account number separately.

In a Branch
Book an appointment at your local Barclays branch and bring the original name-change documents along with photo ID such as a passport or UK driving licence. Staff verify everything on the spot. What Happens After You Submit
Once the change is processed, Barclays issues new cards and chequebooks where applicable. Your existing PINs carry over to the new cards, so there is no new number to memorise. Barclays does not publish a specific turnaround time, and postal submissions will take longer than branch visits because of mail handling. If a couple of weeks pass with no update, call Barclays customer service to check the status.3Barclays. Barclays Change of Name Form
