The Axis Bank account closure form is a one-page document, officially called the Savings/Current Account Closure Form, that you complete and hand in at any Axis Bank branch to permanently close your savings or current account. You can download it as a PDF from the Axis Bank website or pick up a printed copy at the branch. Once the branch accepts your request, the account closes within two working days.1Axis Bank. When Will My Account Get Closed on Submitting the Request
There is no online route. Internet banking and the Axis Mobile app do not offer account closure, so an in-person branch visit is required.2Axis Bank. How to Close a Bank Account in 8 Easy Steps
Where to Get the Form
Axis Bank hosts the form as a downloadable PDF titled “Saving/Current account closure form” on its website, and you can print it at home before your visit.3Axis Bank. Saving/Current Account Closure Form If you don’t have a printer, ask for a blank copy at any branch.
What to Bring With the Form
Showing up with everything the branch will ask for saves a second trip:
- Your account number and Customer ID, both of which appear on your passbook, monthly statement, or welcome kit.
- Photo ID such as your PAN card or Aadhaar card to verify identity against the bank’s KYC records.
- Your debit card, cut into four pieces. Axis Bank requires the card to be physically destroyed before you surrender it.2Axis Bank. How to Close a Bank Account in 8 Easy Steps
- Any unused cheque leaves, so the bank can cancel them.
- A cancelled cheque copy if your closing balance is over ₹25,000 and you want the proceeds sent by NEFT or RTGS.3Axis Bank. Saving/Current Account Closure Form
- The destination bank’s account number and IFSC code, if you want the remaining balance transferred electronically.
Lost your debit card or cheque book? The closure form’s declaration itself authorizes Axis Bank to destroy any cards and cheque leaves linked to the account on your behalf, so the closure can still go through.3Axis Bank. How to Fill Out the Form
The form is one page, but each field needs to be right or the branch will send you back to fix it.
Reason for Closure
The top of the form lists ten predefined reasons. Pick one. Options include “Dissatisfied with the present product offering,” “Deficiency in Branch Services,” “Shifted to other location where there is No Axis Bank,” and “Moving to other Bank.” There is no free-text field. If the account holder has died or there is a legal matter, select “Deceased case / Change in constitution / Legal case.”3Axis Bank. Saving/Current Account Closure Form
Account Details
Enter your full account number and your name exactly as the bank has it on file, with first, middle, and last name in the separate fields. Check the spelling against your passbook or a recent statement. Any mismatch will trigger a verification issue at the counter.
How You Want the Balance Paid Out
This section tells the bank what to do with whatever money is left. Three options:3Axis Bank. Saving/Current Account Closure Form
- NEFT or RTGS to another bank. You enter the destination account number twice for confirmation, the IFSC code, and tick the account type. Checkboxes are provided for Resident Savings Account, NRE, and NRO.
- Transfer to another Axis Bank account. Provide the Axis Bank account number that should receive the funds.
- Demand Draft. The bank issues a DD in the account holder’s name and mails it to the registered address. The DD cannot be made payable to a third party.
If you leave this section blank, or if a NEFT/RTGS transfer bounces for any reason, the bank falls back to issuing a Demand Draft or Pay Order.3Axis Bank. Saving/Current Account Closure Form A wrong IFSC code is one of the most common causes of failed transfers, so verify it before you leave home.
Declaration and Signature
At the bottom of the form is a declaration confirming that your details are accurate and that you understand all linked services will be delinked from the account. Your signature also authorizes Axis Bank to destroy any remaining cheque books and debit cards tied to the account. Sign and date the form. The signature must match the one the bank has on file. For company accounts, attach a board resolution authorizing the closure.
Joint Accounts
If the account has more than one holder, every holder must sign the closure form. Axis Bank will not process the closure without authorization from all account holders.4Axis Bank. Closure Fees
Whether you pay a fee depends on how long the account has been open:5Axis Bank. Fees and Charges
- Closed within 14 days of opening: no charge.
- Closed between 14 days and one year of opening: ₹500.
- Closed after one year: no charge.
Anyone closing a long-held account will typically owe nothing. When the fee does apply, the bank deducts it from your closing balance before releasing the rest.
Submitting the Form at the Branch
You can submit the completed form at any Axis Bank branch. You are not restricted to the branch where the account was opened.2Axis Bank. How to Close a Bank Account in 8 Easy Steps Hand the officer the form, your cut-up debit card, unused cheque leaves, your ID, and the cancelled cheque copy if your balance exceeds ₹25,000. The officer will verify your identity, check for any liens or freezes on the account, and confirm your signature against the bank’s records.
Ask for an acknowledgment receipt before you leave. It proves you submitted the request and surrendered the materials on that date. Keep it until you have confirmation that the account is fully closed and the funds have reached your destination account.
Handle Auto-Debits and Linked Products First
Before you submit the form, deal with anything connected to the account. The declaration on the form says standing instructions, Demat accounts, lockers, other Axis Bank accounts linked as secondary, and credit cards will all be delinked once the account closes.3Axis Bank. Saving/Current Account Closure Form Delinking on the bank’s side simply cuts the connection; it does not redirect anything.
Go through your account for utility bills, insurance premiums, SIP contributions, and subscriptions on auto-debit, and move each of them to your new account first. Do the same with incoming credits such as salary. Money that lands in a closed account is returned to the sender, which can take five to ten business days and cause confusion with your employer or biller.2Axis Bank. If a fixed deposit is linked to the savings account, know that breaking it early triggers a penalty: the interest rate drops to 1% below the applicable card rate for the period the deposit was held.6Axis Bank. Axis Bank FD and RD Terms and Conditions Waiting for the FD to mature, or moving it to another account, may be worth the delay. It’s also a good moment to download any e-statements you may need later, since the mobile and internet banking channels offer three years of history while the account is still active; after closure, older statements have to be requested at a branch.7Axis Bank. e-Statements
After Submission
Axis Bank closes the account within two working days of accepting the request.1Axis Bank. When Will My Account Get Closed on Submitting the Request You will get an SMS or email at your registered contact details confirming the closure. If you asked for NEFT or RTGS, the funds should arrive in the destination account within the same window. A Demand Draft goes by post to your registered address, so its arrival depends on postal timelines.
When the confirmation lands, check the destination account to make sure the full amount came through. If the transferred amount is lower than expected, the gap is most likely the ₹500 early-closure fee or interest settled separately. Contact the branch with your acknowledgment receipt if the figures still don’t reconcile.
