The Apple FCU direct deposit form authorizes your employer or benefit payer to route recurring payments straight into your Apple Federal Credit Union checking, savings, or money market account. You download it from applefcu.org, fill in Apple FCU’s routing number (256078514) along with your account number, sign it, and hand it to your payroll department. Apple FCU does not process the setup for you, and most first deposits land within one to two pay cycles after your employer keys in the paperwork.1Apple Federal Credit Union. What You Need Before You Start
Pull these details together first. A single wrong digit sends your paycheck to the wrong account or bounces it back.
- Apple FCU routing number. The routing transit number is 256078514. Confirm it against your own checks or online banking before you write it down, since routing numbers can occasionally differ by account type or origination date.
- Your account number. Not your debit card number. It appears on the bottom of a personal check (to the right of the routing number), on your account statement, and inside Apple FCU’s online and mobile banking.
- Account type. Checking, savings, or money market. If you’re splitting the deposit across more than one account, you need the type for each.
- Employer information. Some versions of the form ask for your employer’s legal name and address. A recent pay stub covers it.
- Voided check or verification letter. Many payroll departments want a voided check stapled to the form because it confirms the numbers in machine-readable format. Write “VOID” in large letters across a blank check. If you don’t have checks, ask Apple FCU for a direct deposit verification letter through online banking or at a branch.
Where to Get the Form
Apple FCU posts its forms on the Documents and Forms page at applefcu.org/resources/forms.2Apple Federal Credit Union. Documents and Forms The direct deposit authorization form is a downloadable PDF. You can also pick up a paper copy at any Apple FCU branch or by calling member services at 703-788-4800.
Many employers hand out their own direct deposit form instead of accepting the credit union’s version. Either works. You’ll use the same Apple FCU routing number and account number whether the letterhead says Apple FCU or your employer’s name.
How to Fill Out the Form
The form is short, but every field counts. Start with your personal information: full legal name, address, and the last four digits of your Social Security number if the form asks for it. Enter the routing number (256078514) and your account number, and check both against your check or online banking screen rather than memory.
Pick your account type. If you want the entire paycheck in one account, write the full net amount or 100 percent. To split the deposit, most versions of the form give you space for two or more accounts. List fixed-amount accounts first and mark the final account as “remainder” or “balance” so any rounding difference lands where you want it.
Sign and date at the bottom. Read the authorization language before you sign. It typically lets your employer initiate electronic credits and, under NACHA operating rules, reverse a duplicate or incorrect deposit within five banking days of the settlement date.
Submitting the Form to Your Employer
Hand the completed form to your employer’s human resources or payroll department. Apple FCU has no role in the submission; the credit union just receives the incoming deposit once payroll sets it up. Attach the voided check or verification letter if your employer asked for one.
Keep a copy of everything you turn in. If a deposit goes missing later, your copy is the quickest way to confirm which numbers payroll has on file.
What Happens After You Submit
Most payroll systems run a prenote before sending real money. A prenote is a zero-dollar test that travels through the ACH network to confirm the routing and account numbers are valid and the account is open. NACHA rules require the employer to wait at least three banking days after the prenote settles before sending a live deposit. Combined with regular payroll scheduling, that means one to two full pay cycles before your first electronic deposit shows up.
Until then, you’ll keep receiving paper checks or whatever you had before. Watch your Apple FCU account in online banking or the mobile app. The first successful deposit posts as an ACH credit with your employer’s name.
If nothing has arrived after two pay periods, call your payroll administrator before you call Apple FCU. The usual causes are a transposed digit, a prenote that was never sent, or a form still sitting in someone’s inbox. Payroll can confirm whether the ACH was initiated and whether any error codes came back.
Changing or Canceling Direct Deposit
To change the account your pay goes into, whether you’re switching from checking to savings, adding a split, or moving to another institution entirely, submit a new authorization form to your employer. The new form replaces the old instructions. There is no separate cancellation form; you either file updated instructions or ask payroll in writing to stop electronic deposits and resume paper checks.
Give the change the same one-to-two-pay-cycle window. Don’t close your old Apple FCU account until you’ve confirmed the first deposit landed in the new one. Closing an account while a deposit is in transit forces a return that can push your pay back a week or more.
If the Deposit Is a Federal Benefit
Payroll direct deposit and federal benefit direct deposit are separate processes. The Apple FCU form covers paychecks and similar employer-initiated payments. Federal payments, including Social Security, SSI, and VA benefits, must be delivered electronically, either by direct deposit or to a Direct Express debit card.3U.S. Department of the Treasury. Your Rights
Federal law prohibits an employer from requiring you to deposit wages at any particular financial institution. Under the Electronic Fund Transfer Act, your employer can require electronic payment in general, but you choose the bank or credit union. An employer that insists on a specific institution is violating federal law.
If a deposit error occurs, a duplicate, an incorrect amount, or a payment routed to the wrong account, your employer can reverse the entry within five banking days of settlement under NACHA rules, and that reversal is not treated as an unauthorized electronic transfer under Regulation E.6Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. Electronic Fund Transfers FAQs The correction will appear as a debit on your statement. If you see a transfer you didn’t authorize and it isn’t a legitimate employer correction, contact Apple FCU right away; the EFTA sets specific time limits for reporting.
