The Apple Bank direct deposit form is a one-page authorization you download from Apple Bank’s switch kit at applebank.com, complete with routing number 226070584 and your account number, and hand to your employer or benefit provider so your paycheck or benefit payment lands electronically in your Apple Bank account. Apple Bank offers two versions of the form: one for payroll and one for Social Security, pensions, and other government benefits. Setup normally takes one to two pay cycles once the paperwork is processed.
Which Version of the Form You Need
Apple Bank posts both forms on the switch kit page at applebank.com.1Apple Bank. Switch Kit Pick the one that matches where your money comes from:
- Payroll direct deposit, if an employer pays you.
- Benefit direct deposit, if you receive Social Security, SSI, a pension, military pay, or another government benefit.
Download and print whichever applies. If you’d rather pick one up in person, any Apple Bank branch will have a copy.2Apple Bank. Apple Bank Home
The Numbers You’ll Need Before You Start
Two numbers do the actual work on the form: Apple Bank’s routing number and your personal account number.
Apple Bank’s ABA routing number is 226070584. It’s the same nine-digit number for every Apple Bank customer and identifies the bank within the ACH network.3Wise. APPLE BANK FOR SAVINGS Routing Number NY – 226070584
Your account number is unique to you. You can find it in three places:
- Along the bottom of a paper check. The routing number is the nine-digit block on the left; the account number is to its right.
- Inside Apple Bank’s online banking portal or mobile app, under your account details.
- By calling Apple Bank at 914-902-2775 and verifying your identity with a representative.2Apple Bank. Apple Bank Home
If You Don’t Have a Voided Check
Many employers ask you to staple a voided check to the form as visual proof of your numbers. If you don’t use paper checks, any of these will substitute:4Nacha. Direct Deposit Without a Voided Check? Absolutely!
- A letter from Apple Bank on bank letterhead listing your routing and account numbers. Branches usually provide this at no charge.
- A printout or screenshot of your account details from Apple Bank’s website or app.
- A pre-printed deposit slip, which shows the same numbers.
- Your employer’s online payroll portal, if it lets you type the numbers in directly.
Filling Out the Form
Most people finish this in under five minutes. Have the routing number, your account number, and your employer’s legal name and mailing address in front of you.
Account information. Write the nine-digit routing number and your account number carefully. If the form uses one box per digit, keep them lined up. Mark whether the account is checking or savings. Getting the account type wrong is a common reason a first deposit gets returned, so check it against a recent Apple Bank statement.
Payer information. Enter your employer’s official legal name and address. If you’re not sure, ask HR or payroll for the exact entity name. Some companies pay through a separate payroll processor like ADP or Paychex, in which case you may need to list that name instead.
Deposit instructions. Decide how much goes into the account. You can send your entire net pay to one account, or split it — for example, a fixed dollar amount into savings with the balance into checking. To split across multiple accounts, fill out a separate form for each destination.
Signature. Sign and date the bottom. Your signature authorizes the employer to send electronic credits to your account and, if a deposit is sent in error, to pull back the mistaken amount through a correcting debit.5eCFR. 12 CFR 1005.10 – Preauthorized Transfers
Where To Submit It
Give the completed form to your employer’s HR or payroll department. Not to Apple Bank. This is where people get stuck: Apple Bank receives the money, but your employer is the one who enters the account details into their payroll system. The bank has no role in processing the authorization itself.
For Social Security, SSI, a pension, or other federal benefits, the benefit provider handles enrollment, not Apple Bank. You can sign up for Social Security and SSI direct deposit through the Go Direct program at godirect.gov or by calling the Treasury’s Electronic Payment Solution Center at 1-800-333-1795. Federal law requires that federal benefit payments be made electronically, so direct deposit is effectively mandatory absent a rare Treasury waiver.6Social Security Administration. Direct Deposit
Submit the form as early in a pay cycle as you can. Changes typically take one to two pay cycles to take effect, and forms turned in late in a cycle almost always land at the longer end of that window. Keep your existing payment method active until you actually see the first electronic deposit land.
What Happens After You Turn It In
Once payroll enters your details, most employers run a prenote first — a $0 test transaction that confirms the routing and account numbers are valid without moving any real money. NACHA rules set a three-banking-day waiting period after a prenote; if no rejection comes back during that window, the account is treated as verified and live deposits start on the next pay cycle.7Nacha. Your first live deposit usually shows up as pending in Apple Bank’s online banking before it clears. Apple Bank advertises faster access to funds with direct deposit, though it doesn’t publish a specific number of early-access days.8Apple Bank. Compare Checking Accounts
Tax Refunds Don’t Use This Form
If your goal is to have a federal tax refund deposited into your Apple Bank account, skip the authorization form. You enter Apple Bank’s routing number and your account number directly on your tax return. To split a refund across two or three accounts, file IRS Form 8888 (Allocation of Refund) with your return.9Internal Revenue Service. Allocation of Refund
Form 8888 covers checking accounts, savings accounts, IRAs, health savings accounts, and Coverdell education savings accounts. Each allocation must be at least $1, every account must be in your name, and the amounts must add up to the total refund. The IRS limits you to three direct deposits per account per year.9Internal Revenue Service. Allocation of Refund
If Your First Deposit Doesn’t Arrive
Start with your employer’s payroll department. Ask them to read back the routing number (should be 226070584) and account number they have on file, and request the ACH trace number for the transaction. A trace number is a 15-digit identifier that lets either bank track the payment through the ACH network.10Ramp. ACH Trace Numbers: How to Track ACH Payments
The usual culprits:
- A transposed digit in the routing or account number.
- The wrong account type marked on the form.
- A prenote still inside its three-day waiting period.
- A form submitted too late in the pay cycle to take effect that period.
If a deposit went to the wrong account or in the wrong amount, your employer has five banking days from the original settlement date to reverse it through the ACH network. Reversals are permitted only for specific reasons: duplicate payments, incorrect amounts, wrong recipients, or a payment made on the wrong date.11Nacha. ACH Network Rules: Reversals and Enforcement Past that window, the fix has to happen outside the standard reversal process, which takes longer.
