The Ally Bank direct deposit form is a one-page PDF you download from Ally, fill in with your account number and pay instructions, sign, and give to your employer’s payroll department. The prefilled version already shows Ally’s routing number (124003116) and mailing address, so you only complete the personal and account sections.1Ally Bank. Where to Get the Form
Ally offers two versions through its secure direct deposit page. The prefilled form pulls in your routing number and account number automatically after you log in. The blank version is for anyone who prefers to write the numbers in by hand or needs a clean copy for a payroll portal upload.3Ally Bank. Early Direct Deposit FAQs
If you’d rather skip the PDF entirely, your employer’s self-service payroll portal usually accepts the routing and account numbers typed in directly. You can find both numbers on the direct deposit settings page inside the Ally app.4Ally Bank. What You Fill In
Working top to bottom, the form asks for:1Ally Bank. Ally Bank Direct Deposit Form
- Your full name, street address, city, state, ZIP, and phone number.
- Your account number and account type. Checking is labeled “Checking,” and money market sits alongside savings as “Money Market / Savings.” Ally refers to its checking product as a Spending Account; mark it as Checking on the form.5Ally Bank. Open a Spending and Savings Account Together
- Deposit amount. You can choose your entire paycheck, a specific dollar amount, or a percentage.
- Your employer’s or payer’s name, your signature, and the date.
- Space to attach a voided check if your employer requests one.
The routing number printed on every version of the form is 124003116, which Ally uses for both ACH direct deposits and domestic wire transfers.4Ally Bank. Direct Deposit FAQs Your account number is not the same as your debit card number; grab the account number from the Ally app or from a check associated with your Spending Account.
If Payroll Wants a Voided Check
Ally provides free standard checks for Spending Account holders, which you can order through the website or mobile app.6Ally Bank. How to Write Checks and Other Money Questions Answered Write VOID across the face of one and attach it. If you don’t want to wait for checks to arrive, the direct deposit form itself carries the same routing and account numbers, and most payroll departments will accept it in place of a voided check.
Splitting Your Paycheck Between Two Accounts
The form has a second account section built in, so you don’t need a separate request to split your pay. The first account section takes a full deposit, a dollar amount, or a percentage. The second account section can pick up whatever remains, or you can assign it its own dollar amount or percentage.1Ally Bank. Ally Bank Direct Deposit Form
A common setup sends a fixed savings contribution to an Ally Savings Account and routes the rest to the Spending Account for bills. If your pay varies week to week, percentage splits are safer than fixed dollars, since a short paycheck won’t drain one account to fund the other. Your employer’s payroll system also has to support splits; some don’t. When that’s the case, send the full deposit to one account and set up a recurring internal transfer in Ally after it lands.
Submitting the Form
Signed form in hand, give it to your payroll or HR contact. If your employer runs a self-service portal, you may be able to upload the PDF directly or type the routing and account numbers into the portal’s fields instead. Ask which method they want; some accept only one.
Submit early. Payroll cutoff dates often sit a week or more before the actual payday, and a form that lands after the cutoff won’t take effect until the following cycle.
When the First Deposit Will Hit
Plan on one to two full pay cycles before direct deposit is live.2Ally Bank. Ally Bank Direct Deposit: Your Quick Guide During that window, your employer’s bank may send a prenote, a zero-dollar test transaction that confirms your routing and account numbers are valid. Under NACHA rules the employer waits at least three banking days after the prenote before releasing a live deposit. Some employers skip the prenote and go straight to a live payment, which is also allowed.
Turn on push or email alerts in the Ally app so you know the moment a deposit posts. Once direct deposit is active on your Spending Account, Ally’s early direct deposit feature runs automatically, with no sign-up, and can make funds available up to two days before your scheduled payday. Each early deposit must be $10,000 or less, you’re capped at eight per statement cycle, and only payments from qualifying employers, businesses, or government programs qualify. Transfers from your own outside accounts don’t.3Ally Bank. Early Direct Deposit FAQs
If nothing shows up after two full cycles, call your employer’s payroll department first. Delays almost always start on their end.
If a Deposit Fails or Goes to the Wrong Place
The usual culprit is a wrong account number or the wrong account type checked on the form. When an employer’s bank sends money to an account that can’t accept it, the receiving bank returns the transaction, typically within two banking days of settlement. Your employer gets the money back and reissues payment, often as a paper check.
Spot an error after submitting? Tell payroll immediately. Employers can reverse a direct deposit sent to the wrong person or in the wrong amount, but NACHA rules require them to start the reversal within five banking days of the original settlement date.7Nacha. ACH Network Rules – Reversals and Enforcement After that, fixing it gets much harder. If a reversal hits your account improperly, you can dispute it through Ally under Regulation E.8Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. 12 CFR Part 1005 – Electronic Fund Transfers (Regulation E)
If the payment was sent and still hasn’t appeared, ask payroll to confirm the routing number (124003116) and your account number. One transposed digit is enough to bounce the whole deposit. For payments sent correctly that are still missing, call Ally’s customer support line and ask them to trace the ACH entry.
