To send an Ally Bank domestic wire transfer, submit the request online through your account dashboard at ally.com or print Ally’s Domestic Wire Transfer Request form and fax it to 1-866-608-2635. Ally has no branches, so those are the only two channels. Each outgoing wire costs $20, and if Ally verifies your request before 3:00 PM Eastern Time on a business day, the money goes out by 6:00 PM ET that same day.1Ally Bank. Information to Gather First
Online sessions can time out and an incomplete fax gets returned, so collect everything before you start.
- Recipient’s full legal name, matching exactly what appears on their bank account. A name mismatch is one of the most common reasons a wire gets kicked back.
- Recipient’s physical address. Federal recordkeeping rules under the Bank Secrecy Act require banks to collect address information for fund transfers of $3,000 or more.2FFIEC BSA/AML InfoBase. FFIEC BSA/AML Assessing Compliance with BSA Regulatory Requirements – Funds Transfers Recordkeeping
- Receiving bank’s name and mailing address.
- Receiving bank’s ABA routing number, a nine-digit code that identifies the institution. Enter the wrong routing number and the wire lands at the wrong bank entirely.
- Recipient’s account number at the receiving bank.
- Your Ally Bank account number, which the transfer amount and $20 fee come out of.
Ask the recipient for their bank’s wire routing number directly rather than looking it up. Some banks use different routing numbers for wires than for ACH transfers or paper checks, and the wrong type will misdirect the payment.
Sending the Wire Online
Log in at ally.com or through the mobile app and open the transfers section of your account dashboard. Choose the outgoing domestic wire option and fill in each field using the details you gathered. Inline prompts show where each piece of information belongs.
After you finish, Ally displays a review screen with the dollar amount, recipient name, and destination bank. Check every field. Ally states that a submitted wire request cannot be modified or canceled once the payment order has been sent, and the bank is not liable if it cannot recover money already transferred.3Ally Bank. Domestic Wire Transfer Request Confirm the request and complete the verification step. Ally’s wire department may also call you to confirm the transaction before releasing it.
Once the wire is verified, Ally gives you a confirmation number. Save it. If anything goes wrong downstream, that number is what Ally’s support team and the receiving bank need to trace the payment.
Sending the Wire by Fax
If you prefer paper, or the online system is giving you trouble, download the Domestic Wire Transfer Request PDF from Ally’s website. Fill in the same information described above, print both pages, and fax them to 1-866-608-2635.3Ally Bank. Domestic Wire Transfer Request The same cutoff and fee apply. Ally does not accept wire requests by phone. Customer service at 1-877-247-2559 can answer questions, but representatives cannot initiate a wire for you.
Cutoff Times and Same-Day Processing
Ally processes wire requests in the order received. Anything fully verified before 3:00 PM ET on a business day goes out by 6:00 PM ET that day. Anything not verified by 3:00 PM gets pushed to the next business day.1Ally Bank. Ally Bank Help Center: Transfers FAQs
Ally does not process wires on weekends or bank holidays, because the underlying Fedwire Funds Service runs Monday through Friday and closes on federal holidays.4Federal Reserve Financial Services. Fedwire Funds Service A wire submitted late Friday afternoon will not go out until Monday.
For a real estate closing or another time-sensitive transfer, submit early, ideally before noon ET. Verification calls can add time, and if the receiving bank sits in a different time zone, its own posting window may close before yours does.
What It Costs
Ally charges a flat $20 for each outgoing domestic wire, deducted from your account when the wire is processed. If you wire money from your Ally Bank account to your own Ally Invest account, Ally refunds the $20 within two business days.1Ally Bank. Ally Bank Help Center: Transfers FAQs
Ally does not charge to receive incoming domestic wires. The sending bank or an intermediary bank may charge its own fees on the other end, and those come out of the transfer amount separately from Ally’s $20.1Ally Bank. Ally Bank Help Center: Transfers FAQs
Mistakes Are Hard to Undo
Domestic wires are designed to be fast and final. Ally’s wire terms state that a submitted request cannot be modified, and the bank cannot revoke or cancel a payment order once it has been sent.3Ally Bank. Domestic Wire Transfer Request If you realize you entered the wrong account number or dollar amount after transmission, Ally can attempt a recall, but recovery depends on whether the receiving bank still has the money and is willing to return it. There is no guarantee.
That is why the review screen matters more than it does for most transactions. Check the routing number digit by digit. Confirm the recipient’s name matches their bank records. Verify the dollar amount. A wrong digit on a $30,000 wire is not the same problem as a wrong digit on a Zelle payment; the finality protections that make wires reliable also make them very difficult to unwind.
If a wire you sent has not arrived at the receiving bank within a reasonable time, call Ally at 1-877-247-2559 with your confirmation number. The wire department can use the transaction reference to trace the payment through Fedwire and locate where it stalled.

- Beneficiary account number: Your Ally Bank account number
