To file a Pirelli tire warranty claim, take the defective tire and your original dated receipt to an authorized Pirelli dealer. The dealer inspects the tire, verifies that the problem falls under covered conditions, and submits the claim to Pirelli, whose own inspection team makes the final coverage decision.1Pirelli. Limited Warranty – Pirelli Original Equipment and Replacement Passenger and Light Truck Tires There is no consumer-facing form you mail in yourself, so your job is gathering the right paperwork and getting to a qualified shop.
What to Gather Before You Go
Missing a single item can mean a wasted trip or a denied claim. Pull these together first.
- Original dated sales receipt. This shows the tire model, price paid, and purchase date, and it starts the warranty clock. If you cannot produce it, Pirelli falls back to the manufacturing date stamped on the tire’s DOT code, which usually shortens your coverage window.2Pirelli. Limited Warranty – Pirelli
- DOT serial number. The full Department of Transportation number is printed on the sidewall, beginning with “DOT” followed by eight to thirteen characters. The last four digits are the date code: “0525” means the fifth week of 2025. Write it down before your visit.3General Tire. What Is a DOT Serial Number and Where Is It
- Current odometer reading. The dealer needs it to calculate how much warranted life the tire has used, especially for treadwear claims.
- Tire rotation records. For treadwear claims, documented rotations at the required interval are mandatory. Recent Pirelli warranty brochures require rotation every 5,000 to 7,000 miles; older versions required every 3,000 to 4,000 miles. Check the brochure that was current when you bought the tires. The servicing dealer must have completed the tire rotation record at each visit. Generic service receipts help, but the completed Pirelli rotation card is what the warranty actually calls for.4Pirelli. - Alignment records. If the dealer suspects uneven wear, they may ask for proof that your vehicle’s alignment was maintained. Bringing them preemptively strengthens your case.
For a treadwear claim, the tire must actually be worn down to the wear indicators (2/32 of an inch remaining) before you can file, and it must have worn evenly, with no more than 2/32-inch variation across the tread surface. If one edge is significantly more worn than the center, that points to an alignment or inflation problem rather than a defect in the tread compound, and the claim will likely be denied.4Pirelli. Finding an Authorized Dealer and Submitting the Tire
You cannot submit a warranty claim to Pirelli directly. Use Pirelli’s dealer locator at pirelli.com/tires/en-us/car/near-tire-shops-and-repair to search by city or zip code.6Pirelli. Tire Shops and Repair Services Call ahead to confirm the shop handles warranty claims. Not every retail location that sells Pirelli tires is set up for warranty processing.
At the shop, you present the tire and your paperwork. The technician inspects the tire to verify the reported problem and confirm it falls under covered conditions. If the dealer agrees the tire qualifies, they submit it to Pirelli, and Pirelli’s inspection team makes the final decision.1Pirelli. Limited Warranty – Pirelli Original Equipment and Replacement Passenger and Light Truck Tires Once the tire is submitted and credit is issued, the tire becomes Pirelli’s property. You do not get it back.
Describe what you noticed and when: rapid tread loss, a bulge in the sidewall, vibration at highway speed. The more specific your description, the easier the dealer’s job.
What Pirelli Covers
The limited warranty applies to Pirelli-branded original equipment and replacement passenger and light truck tires sold through authorized dealers in the United States and Canada. Coverage runs on two tracks.
Workmanship and Materials Defects
If a tire fails because of a manufacturing defect, such as sidewall separation, belt-edge detachment, or a bubble in an area that was never punctured, the warranty applies. During the initial period, defined as one year from the date of purchase or the first 2/32 of an inch of tread wear (whichever comes first), Pirelli replaces the tire at no charge with an identical or comparable Pirelli tire and covers mounting and balancing. Miscellaneous fees and taxes are not included even in this window.2Pirelli. Limited Warranty – Pirelli
After that initial period, Pirelli still covers defects but switches to a pro-rated credit, and you also pay mounting and balancing. The warranty expires entirely when the tread wears to 2/32 of an inch or six years from purchase, whichever comes first.2Pirelli. Limited Warranty – Pirelli
Treadwear Mileage Guarantee
Certain Pirelli replacement tire lines carry a separate treadwear warranty promising a specific number of miles. Guarantees range from around 35,000 miles on performance models to 90,000 miles on touring tires, depending on the line and speed rating.1Pirelli. Limited Warranty – Pirelli Original Equipment and Replacement Passenger and Light Truck Tires If your tires wear out before hitting the guaranteed mileage and you have met the maintenance conditions, you get a pro-rated credit.
Eligibility is stricter here. You must be the original purchaser, still own the vehicle the tires were first installed on, and the tires must have worn evenly. Passenger and P-metric light truck tires used on commercial vehicles are excluded. For vehicles with staggered sizes, rear tire mileage coverage drops to 50 percent of the stated guarantee.4Pirelli. Ride Disturbance
Vibration or ride discomfort from a new tire is covered by a no-charge replacement, but only within the same initial window of one year from purchase or the first 2/32 of an inch of tread wear.5Pirelli. Limited Passenger and Light Truck Warranty After that, ride complaints are not covered at all. Bring the tire in early rather than hoping the vibration settles.
What Pirelli Will Not Cover
The exclusion list is where most denied claims land. Pirelli does not cover damage from road hazards such as nails, glass, or pothole impacts (except for certain Run Flat and sensorized tires under a separate road hazard policy). Tires damaged by fire, chemical corrosion, vandalism, or running flat are excluded. Any tire used in racing, track days, or high-performance driving events is out.7Pirelli. Limited Warranty – Pirelli Original Equipment and Replacement Passenger and Light Truck Tires
Vehicle problems that cause uneven wear (misalignment, worn suspension, defective brakes or shocks) void coverage for the resulting damage. Pirelli also excludes tires inflated with anything other than air or nitrogen, tires injected with liquid balancer or sealant, and tires that have been retreaded, regrooved, or improperly repaired. A tire patched with only a plug or only a patch, rather than a combination repair meeting U.S. Tire Manufacturers Association standards, is grounds for denial.7Pirelli. Limited Warranty – Pirelli Original Equipment and Replacement Passenger and Light Truck Tires
Tires transferred to a different vehicle from the one on which they were originally installed are excluded, as are tires operated outside the United States or Canada.
How the Pro-Rated Credit Is Calculated
Two different formulas apply depending on which warranty you are claiming under.
For a defect claim after the initial free-replacement period, the dealer takes the percentage of original usable tread you have worn and multiplies it by the current dealer selling price of the replacement tire. That product is what you pay.2Pirelli. Limited Warranty – Pirelli If 40 percent of the tread was used and the replacement sells for $200, you pay $80.
For a treadwear claim, the formula is based on mileage. The dealer multiplies the current selling price by the percentage of warranted mileage actually used.7Pirelli. Limited Warranty – Pirelli Original Equipment and Replacement Passenger and Light Truck Tires On a tire warranted for 70,000 miles that wore out at 42,000, you used 60 percent. On a $200 replacement, you pay $120.
In both cases the credit applies only toward a new Pirelli tire purchased from the same dealer, and you cover mounting, balancing, taxes, and any disposal fees. Mounting and balancing a single tire typically costs between $15 and $60.
Common Reasons Claims Get Denied
Missing rotation records are the single biggest claim killer. The treadwear warranty explicitly requires documented rotations at the specified interval, performed by an authorized Pirelli dealer who completed the tire rotation record. Rotating your tires at a non-Pirelli shop or failing to keep receipts can sink an otherwise valid claim.
- Uneven wear patterns. Significantly more wear on one edge or one spot gets attributed to misalignment, improper inflation, or worn suspension rather than a manufacturing defect.
- Road hazard damage mistaken for a defect. Sidewall punctures, cuts, and impact bulges from potholes or debris are not defects, even when they look like factory problems.
- Expired warranty period. The six-year cutoff is hard, and without a receipt Pirelli counts from the DOT manufacture date.2Pirelli. Limited Warranty – Pirelli
- Improper repairs. A plug-only repair or any fix outside USTMA standards disqualifies the tire.7Pirelli. Limited Warranty – Pirelli Original Equipment and Replacement Passenger and Light Truck Tires
- Tire moved to a different vehicle. The warranty follows the original vehicle, not the tire.
If Your Claim Is Denied
A dealer-level denial is not the final word. Call Pirelli customer service at 1-800-PIRELLI (1-800-747-3554) to escalate and request a second review, or use the contact form on Pirelli’s website.8Pirelli. FAQs Have your DOT serial number, purchase receipt, and any inspection notes from the dealer ready before you call. Repeating the story without documentation rarely moves anything forward.
If you believe a warranty obligation is being unfairly denied, the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act requires manufacturers to honor the terms of their written warranties and prohibits them from disclaiming implied warranties when a written warranty is offered.9Federal Trade Commission.
