The IISER application form for the IAT (IISER Aptitude Test) is submitted online at the official admissions portal, iiseradmission.in. You register with your name, email, and mobile number, log in with the credentials the system sends you, fill in your personal, academic, and preference details, upload your photograph, signature, ID, and any category certificate, review the summary, submit, and pay the application fee. For the 2026 cycle, registration opened on March 5, 2026, closed on April 13, 2026, and the exam was held on June 7, 2026.
Before You Open the Portal
Have everything ready in one place. The form does not save partial entries gracefully, and several fields lock permanently once you submit. The portal recommends a desktop or laptop over a mobile device.1IISER Admissions 2026. Welcome – Index
Personal information you will enter: full legal name as it appears on your Class 12 records, date of birth, nationality, category (General, OBC-NCL, EWS, SC, ST, or PwD), a working mobile number, and a valid email address. Both the phone and email receive your login credentials and every later notice.
Academic details: Class 12 board name, year of passing or expected passing, roll number, and subject-wise marks. If your results are still pending, fill what you have and update the rest during the correction window.
Preferences you need to decide before you start, not while the timer is running:
- Five preferred exam cities, ranked. Over 140 centres are available across the country. City preferences cannot be changed once submitted.
- Up to nine IISER campuses, ranked in the order you want to be considered for seats. This ranking feeds directly into counselling, so it is worth thinking through in advance.
Documents to upload:
- A recent passport-sized photograph, file size within 200 KB.
- A clean scan of your signature, also within 200 KB.
- Category certificate from a competent government authority, if you are claiming SC, ST, OBC-NCL, EWS, or PwD reservation.
- A government-issued ID such as Aadhaar or passport for identity and citizenship verification.
Every scan needs to be legible. A blurry photo or unreadable certificate is one of the most common reasons an application gets flagged.
Check Eligibility Before You Pay
Indian citizens, OCIs, PIOs, and Foreign Nationals may apply for the IAT.2Press Information Bureau. Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research Open Admissions for 2024-25 You must have passed Class 12 in the science stream, or be appearing for it in the current cycle. For 2026, eligible passing years were 2024, 2025, and 2026.
Minimum aggregate marks in the qualifying exam:
- General, OBC-NCL, and EWS: 60%.2Press Information Bureau. Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research Open Admissions for 2024-25
- SC, ST, and PwD: 55%.2Press Information Bureau. Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research Open Admissions for 2024-25
Falling below these thresholds means automatic rejection at verification, regardless of your test score. If you are appearing in 2026 and results are pending, you can still apply, but you will need to meet the cutoff once results are declared.
One boundary worth flagging: the IAT is the SCB (State and Central Board) channel. Candidates using their JEE Advanced score apply through a separate channel with a separate form and fee. If you plan to use both routes, you fill and pay for each one individually. Everything below covers the SCB/IAT form.
Filling and Submitting the Form, Step by Step
Use only the official portal at iiseradmission.in. Third-party sites are not valid submission routes.
- Register. Open the registration link and enter your name, email, and mobile number. The system creates a User ID and password and sends them to both your email and phone.1IISER Admissions 2026. Welcome – Index
- Log in and fill the form. Enter personal information, academic details, exam city preferences, and IISER campus preferences. Double-check name, nationality, category, mobile number, email, and city preferences before moving on. These fields cannot be edited after submission.1IISER Admissions 2026. Welcome – Index
- Upload documents. Attach the photograph, signature, category certificate if applicable, and ID proof in the fields provided. Confirm each upload is clear and within the size limit.
- Review and submit. The portal shows a summary of everything you have entered. Read every line. When you submit, the system generates a unique application number. Save it immediately, ideally as a screenshot; you need it for every future interaction with the admissions office.
- Pay the fee. The portal redirects you to the payment gateway.
Application Fee and Payment
The fee is set by category:
- General, OBC-NCL, and EWS: ₹2,000.
- SC, ST, PwD, Kashmiri Migrants, and Third Gender: ₹1,000.
- Foreign Nationals: USD 100.
You can pay through net banking, UPI, or credit and debit cards. The fee is non-refundable, even if you later decide not to sit for the exam.
Once the payment goes through, wait for the portal to redirect you back. Do not close the browser during this step. If you close it early, the payment can get stuck as “pending” even though the money has left your account. If that happens, wait 24 to 48 hours for the bank and portal to reconcile before trying again. If it still shows pending, call the helpdesk rather than paying a second time and ending up with a double charge.
Locked Fields and the Correction Window
For the 2026 cycle, a correction window ran from April 16 to April 18, 2026.3IISER Admissions 2026. Welcome – Index> During those days you can log back in and fix minor issues in editable fields, such as re-uploading a photograph, updating a signature scan, or correcting academic marks.
Locked fields stay locked. That means name, nationality, category, mobile number, email, and city preferences cannot be changed through corrections either. This is why the review step before submission matters more than any other click in the process.
If verification flags a discrepancy in your form, you may receive a notice at your registered email or phone. Check the application status regularly and respond promptly. An unresolved flag can end in rejection.
Admit Card and What Comes Next
Admit cards, labelled “Hall Tickets” on the portal, are released roughly two weeks before the exam. For 2026, the download link went live on May 26 and stayed available until June 7, 2026 at 1:00 PM IST.4IISER Admissions 2026. IISER Admissions 2026 Download and print it as soon as it is available rather than waiting for exam morning.
The admit card carries your assigned centre address and reporting time. Take it to the venue along with the same government-issued photo ID you used at registration. The name and photograph on the admit card must match the ID you carry; a mismatch can get you turned away at the gate.
After results, qualifying candidates enter counselling. The campus preferences you locked in on the form determine seat allocation together with your IAT score and category, which is the practical reason to rank those preferences carefully at the application stage. Candidates who receive a seat must report to the allotted campus by the deadline in the offer letter, complete document verification in person, and pay the semester fees to confirm admission. If your originals do not match what you declared on the form, the seat offer can be withdrawn on the spot.
