To file an AAA complaint, start by identifying which regional motor club administers your membership, then send your complaint directly to that club through its online form, phone line, branch office, mobile app, or certified mail. AAA is a federation of independent, not-for-profit clubs rather than a single national company, so complaints are handled locally.1AAA. What to Have Ready Before You File
Pull these together before you open the form so you don’t have to stop midway:
- Your full 16-digit membership number, entered with no spaces or dashes. It’s on your physical card and in the AAA mobile app.
- Your home zip code, which routes your complaint to the right department within the federation.
- The date, approximate time, and location of the incident. For a roadside call, include the street or cross streets where the vehicle broke down and any dispatch or reference number the operator gave you.
- Your name, email, phone number, and mailing address. Most forms ask for all four.7AAA. Roadside Service Feedback
- A specific resolution you want: a refund of a dispatch fee, a credit to your membership, retraining of the contractor involved, or a written apology. Vague complaints tend to draw vague responses.
If you have screenshots of texts with a dispatcher, photos of the vehicle at the breakdown location, or receipts for a tow you paid out of pocket while waiting, keep those handy. Some online forms accept attachments; others may ask you to email documentation separately.
Ways to Submit Your Complaint
Pick the channel that fits how quickly you want a response and how complex the issue is.
Online Form
On your club’s site, find the complaint or feedback form. Some clubs offer a dedicated roadside service feedback form that asks for the date of service and a free-text field.7AAA. How Can I Report an Issue With the AAA Mobile App? Good for quick reports. For disputes involving refunds or multi-day delays, an online form or phone call gives you more room to explain.
Certified Mail
If you want a paper trail with legal weight, print your complaint, sign it, and mail it via certified mail with return receipt requested to your regional club’s headquarters. The address appears on your club’s “Contact Us” page or on your membership renewal paperwork. Certified mail creates a verifiable record of the date the club received your complaint, which matters if the dispute later escalates.
What Happens After You File

A member relations specialist typically calls or emails to discuss what they found. The club evaluates the complaint against its internal service standards and your membership agreement. Common outcomes include a refund of a service fee, a credit to your membership, or a commitment to retrain the contractor or dispatcher involved. If the offer doesn’t match the severity of what happened, say so. The first offer isn’t always the final one.
Escalating If You’re Not Satisfied
If the club’s response falls short or you’ve been ignored, a few paths sit outside AAA’s internal process.
- Better Business Bureau. AAA regional clubs have individual BBB profiles. Search for your club on bbb.org and file through its profile page. The BBB forwards the complaint and tracks the response, which becomes public.
- State attorney general. Every state’s consumer protection division accepts complaints about unfair or deceptive business practices. If you believe your club failed to deliver what your membership promised, filing a consumer complaint creates an official record and may trigger a review. Look for the consumer complaint form on your state attorney general’s website.
- Small claims court. For a specific dollar amount, like reimbursement for a tow you paid out of pocket because AAA never arrived, small claims court lets you sue without a lawyer. Filing fees generally run between $20 and $175 depending on jurisdiction. Keep all receipts and correspondence to show the court what you paid, what AAA promised, and how the club responded.
Before escalating, send one final written demand to the club. Email is fine. Lay out what happened, what you’ve already asked for, and what you’ll do next if it isn’t resolved within a set number of days; ten business days is reasonable. That letter often shakes loose a better offer, and it serves as evidence of good faith if the matter ends up in front of a judge or a state investigator.
