To make an IAA wire transfer payment, you send funds from a bank account that matches your IAA registration to IAA’s Bank of America account using the routing and account numbers printed on your invoice, submit the Wire Transfer form on IAA’s Help Center, and then apply the resulting credit to your vehicle at online checkout.1IAA. Wire Transfer Information The wire does not pay the invoice directly. It funds your buyer account, and you spend that credit yourself.
How the Credit System Works
IAA does not apply incoming wires to a specific vehicle, storage charge, or fee. The money posts to your IAA buyer account as general credit. Once Bank of America confirms the deposit, you get an instant notification that the credit is available, and you then log in and apply it during online payment.1IAA. Wire Transfer Information
That means the wire has to go out before you can finish checkout, not during it. If you’re used to paying at the point of sale, plan for the extra step and the clearing time it needs.
What to Gather Before You Send
Print your invoice first. During checkout on IAA’s website, the invoice you print includes the banking details you need for the wire.2IAA. How To Pay Have this in front of you before you go to the bank or open your online banking portal:
- Your buyer name and buyer ID, matching your IAA registration exactly.
- IAA’s Bank of America routing and account numbers, taken from the invoice you just printed rather than an older copy.
- The full amount owed, including buyer fees.
The name on the sending account matters. IAA does not accept third-party wires. The funds have to come from the registered business name, the account owner, or an additional bidder listed on the account.1IAA. Wire Transfer Information A wire from a spouse’s personal account, a business account under a different legal name, or a partner helping out will be rejected. Confirm the sending account name matches your buyer profile before you initiate anything.
Sending the Wire and Submitting the Form
You can send the wire at a branch or through your bank’s online portal. Enter IAA’s routing number, account number, and the amount from your printed invoice. Your bank will give you a confirmation receipt with a reference number. Keep it.
After sending, complete the Wire Transfer form linked on IAA’s Help Center page.2IAA. How To Pay That form tells IAA to expect your funds and connects the incoming wire to your buyer account. When Bank of America confirms the deposit, you’ll get the notification and the credit will show in your account, ready to apply at checkout.1IAA. Wire Transfer Information
If the Money Doesn’t Post
Domestic wires should land within 72 hours. International wires take two to four business days. If the credit hasn’t appeared in that window, email a copy of your bank receipt to buyerpayment@iaai.com and include your buyer number.2IAA. How To Pay Most delays trace back to funds held at an intermediary bank or a name mismatch between the sending account and your IAA registration. Sending the receipt lets IAA’s payment team find the money and clear it before late fees hit.
International Wires
Wires sent from outside the U.S. pass through at least one intermediary bank, and each one deducts its own fee before forwarding the balance. Fees vary by country and amount. Ask your bank what those charges will be and increase your wire so IAA still receives the full amount owed.3IAA. Wire Transfer Information If IAA receives less than the invoice total because intermediary fees came out of your transfer, the shortfall is still on you.
International clearing runs two to four business days.2IAA. How To Pay Send the wire as soon as you win the auction rather than waiting for the last day of the payment window. One extra business day from an intermediary can put you past the deadline.
Deadlines and Late Costs
IAA enforces its payment timelines strictly. A vehicle not paid for in the required window triggers a late fee of $50 or 2 percent of the selling price, whichever is greater. If payment isn’t made within seven calendar days of the award, IAA can treat the purchase as a renege and relist the vehicle. The renege fee is 15 percent of the final sale price, with a $1,000 minimum.4IAAI Fees Calculator. IAAI Auction Fees Calculator
Storage charges also accrue if the vehicle isn’t picked up on time. Each branch sets its own storage rates and deadlines, so check your branch’s page for the specific numbers.5IAA. What are late payment and storage fees? A slow wire that takes three extra days to clear can stack late fees and storage charges into real money quickly.
Guarding Against Wire Fraud
Wire transfers are effectively irreversible once sent, which is why IAA prohibits third-party wires in the first place and why scammers target this payment method. A few habits protect you:
- Pull banking details from an invoice you printed after logging into your IAA account, not from any email offering “updated” wire instructions.
- If you get a call pressing you to wire funds immediately, hang up and verify with IAA Buyer Services at 877-937-4243.
- When you enter IAA’s routing and account numbers, your bank should display the recipient name. If it doesn’t match what’s on the invoice, stop and confirm before authorizing.
