How to Complete and Submit the Western Union GCR Customer Questionnaire

The Western Union GCR customer questionnaire is an online form at westernunion.com/gcr where you verify your identity, explain your transfer activity, and upload supporting documents so Western Union can keep processing your money transfers. You complete it through a secure portal after receiving an email or mailed notice that your account was flagged for review. Once Western Union has your completed form and documents, it emails a response within three business days.1Western Union. Western Union GCR Customer Questionnaire

Gather Your Documents First

The form moves faster when everything is ready to upload. Western Union’s checklist covers four categories of material.1Western Union. Western Union GCR Customer Questionnaire

  • Government-issued photo ID — a passport, driver’s license, or national ID card. The name on the ID must match the name on your Western Union account.
  • Source-of-funds documents showing where the money comes from: bank statements, pay stubs, tax returns, deposit receipts, loan paperwork, or winning receipts.
  • Purpose-of-transfer documents such as tuition invoices, medical bills, purchase agreements, or business licenses.
  • Third-party authorization, if you send or receive on someone else’s behalf: business registration, a letter of authorization, or a bank statement showing access to that party’s funds.2Western Union. What Documents Are Suitable and Why Does Western Union Need Them

Every file has to be between 10 KB and 10 MB and saved as JPG, JPEG, PNG, or PDF. Make sure text, security features, and dates are legible. Blurry images and cut-off pages trigger follow-up requests that delay the review.1Western Union. Western Union GCR Customer Questionnaire

Working Through the Questionnaire

Go to westernunion.com/gcr and start the form. It moves through several sections, and you need to complete every one.3Western Union. Customer Questionnaire

Personal Information

Enter your first name, middle name (optional), and last name exactly as they appear on your ID. Provide your current email, physical address, and mobile number. Use an email address you check regularly — Western Union sends the review result there. You’ll also select your country of birth, enter your occupation with a clarification field if needed, and add a recent Money Transfer Control Number (MTCN) if you have one. Upload your photo ID in this section.3Western Union. Customer Questionnaire

Relationships

List the people or businesses you’ve sent money to or received money from through Western Union. For each, give the full name, your relationship, the purpose of the transactions, and any supporting documents. This is where the compliance team checks whether your transfers fit a recognizable pattern. Family support, tuition, and business invoices each carry their own document expectations.

Source of Funds

Choose your source from the drop-down and upload documentation. Western Union wants to see that the money moving through your account lines up with a verifiable income source. The strongest documents here are at least three months of bank statements or pay stubs.2Western Union. Third Parties and Fraud

If you send or receive on behalf of another person or a business, explain the relationship, provide that party’s details, and upload authorization documents. A separate fraud section asks whether you’ve been a scam victim. If you have, describe briefly what happened; Western Union uses this both to evaluate your account and to flag potential fraud rings.

Match Your Documents to Your Transfer Purpose

Uploading the right documents for your actual situation is the fastest way to clear the review.1Western Union. Western Union GCR Customer Questionnaire

  • Family support: birth or marriage certificates, medical bills, flight itineraries, invoices, or receipts for goods and services.
  • Tuition or education: tuition receipts, current transcripts, or invoices from the school.
  • Business expenses or charity: business license, tax identification information, registration permits, invoices, payroll receipts, a seller’s permit, or 501(c)(3) documentation for nonprofits. If you’re sending on behalf of a company, include a letter on company letterhead explaining your role.
  • Loan repayment: the loan or mortgage statement, purchase agreement, or property title.
  • Large purchases: property title, purchase agreement, loan statement, or receipts.

Receipts and invoices should show reference numbers, the company’s name, and contact information. Dates and names on every document need to match your Western Union transfer history. Mismatches will trigger follow-up requests.

Submitting the Form

Once every section is filled in and your documents are uploaded, review the information for accuracy and click “Submit questionnaire.” Western Union emails a response within three business days of receiving the completed form and all required documents.1Western Union. Submission is entirely online through the portal; there is no mail-in option for the GCR itself. Save or screenshot any confirmation the portal shows. For technical problems with the portal, Western Union’s customer service line is 1-800-325-6000.4Western Union. File a Complaint

If You Don’t Respond

Ignoring the notice or submitting incomplete information leads to account restrictions. Western Union typically suspends your ability to send or receive money through any of its channels — online, in the app, and at physical agent locations worldwide. The suspension stays in place until the review is resolved. If you never respond, the company can close your account permanently and bar you from the service.

Any pending transfer caught in the review may be held until the compliance team reaches a decision, and those funds stay inaccessible to both sender and recipient while the review is open. Getting an account reopened after closure is significantly harder than answering the original questionnaire.

Answer Honestly

Every answer needs to be accurate. Knowingly making a materially false statement in a matter within the jurisdiction of a federal agency is punishable by up to five years in prison under 18 U.S.C. § 1001.5Office of the Law Revision Counsel. 18 USC 1001 – Statements or Entries Generally Western Union is regulated by FinCEN and state financial regulators, and the information on the questionnaire feeds into a federally supervised compliance system. If something in your transfer history looks unusual but has a legitimate explanation, explain it clearly and attach documents that back it up.
