Two Ways to Order
The online form runs through Liberty’s secure Banner system and is linked directly from the Registrar’s transcript page. It’s the faster route because it feeds straight into the processing queue.
The printable PDF lives on the same page. Once you fill it out, you can mail it to the Registrar’s Office, email it, fax it, or drop it off in person at Green Hall 1896 in the Student Service Center.1Liberty University. What to Have Ready Before You Start
Gather these details so you can complete the form in one pass:
- Your full name as enrolled. If your name has changed, include both the current legal name and the name Liberty had on file so the record can be matched.
- Your Liberty University ID number (LUID). If you no longer have it, a Social Security Number works as an alternative identifier.
- Approximate start and end years of your enrollment.
- Transcript type: undergraduate or graduate.
- Recipient details. Electronic delivery needs a verified email for the receiving institution or employer; a mailed copy needs the full physical address. Check the spelling and zip code before you submit.
- Your signature authorizing release under FERPA. On the online form, you type your name as electronic consent; on the PDF, sign by hand.2Liberty University. FERPA Policy
Fees, Shipping, and the Military Waiver
An official transcript costs $10 for the first copy and $1 for each additional copy on the same request. The pricing applies to electronic transcripts and paper copies alike.3Liberty University. Transcript Request Form
Expedited shipping is $20 per address on top of the transcript fee, and it only works for U.S. street addresses. If you select expedited shipping for an international address, a PO Box, or an APO address, Liberty cancels the expedited option and sends the transcript by standard USPS mail.1Liberty University. Liberty waives the transcript fee entirely for active duty, discharged, and retired military members. The waiver doesn’t extend to military spouses or dependents. To use it, email LUTranscripts@Liberty.edu from your Liberty University or military email address and state your military status, or note it on the online form. Expedited shipping still costs $20; only the transcript fee itself is waived.1Liberty University. Transcript Request Information
Getting a Free Unofficial Transcript
If you only need a copy for your own records or to check coursework before applying somewhere, download an unofficial transcript from Banner Self-Service at no cost:1Liberty University. Transcript Request Information
- Log in to Liberty University’s website using your username and password under Student Login.
- Click “SSB Student.”
- Click “Academic Transcript.”
- Select “Unofficial Transcript” to view and download.
Unofficial transcripts carry the same course and grade data as official ones but lack the university seal and Registrar verification. Most employers and graduate schools won’t accept them as final proof, though they work fine for preliminary applications or personal planning.
Processing Time and Tracking
Electronic transcripts move fastest. Once the Registrar clears your order, the document is sent digitally to the recipient’s email. Standard paper transcripts go through USPS and typically arrive within five to seven business days for domestic addresses. The $20 expedited option speeds delivery to U.S. street addresses.
The Registrar’s Office sends email updates as your order moves through the queue: when it has been received, when it has been processed, and when it has been sent. If something looks stuck, contact the Registrar at (434) 592-5100 or registrar@liberty.edu.4Liberty University. Registrar
LUCOM Students Use a Separate Form
If you attended the Liberty University College of Osteopathic Medicine, your request does not go through the main Registrar. LUCOM maintains its own records and its own PDF form. Holds That Can Block Your Request
A hold on your account stops the Registrar from processing your order. The most common trigger is an unpaid balance: outstanding tuition, housing charges, or incidental fees. Library fines or unreturned equipment can also freeze the record. Check your account before ordering so you’re not surprised by a rejection.
Incomplete exit counseling is another frequent cause. Federal law requires you to complete exit counseling when you leave school or drop below half-time enrollment if you received federal student loans.6Federal Student Aid. Exit Counseling Liberty places an administrative hold on your record until it’s done. Counseling takes about 30 minutes through the Federal Student Aid website, and the hold is typically lifted within a few days after the school confirms completion.
If you received more financial aid than you were entitled to, a federal overpayment can also freeze your records. Schools first try to resolve overpayments by adjusting your aid package, but if you already received and spent the excess, you may owe money back. Overpayments of $25 or more that the school cannot correct internally become your responsibility to repay.7Federal Student Aid. 2025-2026 Federal Student Aid Handbook – Overawards and Overpayments Contact the Financial Aid Office to find out what you owe and how to clear it.
Federal Limits on Transcript Withholding
A rule that took effect on July 1, 2024, limits when schools receiving federal financial aid can withhold your transcript. If your credits were paid for with Title IV aid (federal grants or loans) and all institutional charges tied to those credits have been satisfied, the school cannot hold your transcript over other debts.8Middle States Commission on Higher Education. Advocacy Alert – USDE Announces Final Regulations Regarding Withholding Transcripts, Financial Value Transparency, and Gainful Employment Schools also cannot withhold transcripts or take negative action against you for a balance that resulted from the school’s own error in administering federal aid programs.9Federal Student Aid. School Eligibility and Operations – 2024-2025 Federal Student Aid Handbook
These protections don’t erase debts you legitimately owe. They prevent schools from using your transcript as leverage for balances that federal aid already covered or that arose from administrative mistakes. If you believe a hold violates these rules, raise the issue with Liberty’s Registrar at (434) 592-5100 or registrar@liberty.edu and reference the federal transcript withholding regulation. If the school does not resolve it, you can file a complaint with the U.S. Department of Education.
