Investment ISA (2026/2027) Application Form Either way, you are opening a Stocks and Shares ISA where capital gains, dividends, and interest grow free of UK income tax and capital gains tax, up to the £20,000 annual contribution limit that applies across all your ISAs for the 2026/27 tax year.2GOV.UK. Check You Can Apply
You need to be 18 or older and either a UK tax resident, a Crown servant working overseas, or the spouse or civil partner of a Crown servant.2GOV.UK. Individual Savings Accounts (ISAs) If you later move abroad and lose UK tax residency you can keep the account but cannot pay in any more, and you must tell Fidelity when your residency changes.3GOV.UK. Individual Savings Accounts – If You Move Abroad
One boundary to flag up front: Fidelity UK does not accept US persons on its ISA platform. If you hold US citizenship or are otherwise a US tax resident, the application will not proceed, and even on providers that do accept US persons the IRS does not recognise the ISA’s tax-free status, so you would face full US tax and additional reporting on everything held inside the wrapper. In that situation, speak to a cross-border tax adviser before trying to open any UK ISA.
What to Have Ready Before You Start
Gather the following so you can finish the form in one sitting:
- Your National Insurance number. ISA managers are required to collect it. If you do not have one, you can still apply by providing your date of birth and permanent UK address instead.4GOV.UK. Individual Savings Account and Child Trust Funds Amendment Regulations 2025
- A UK personal bank account in your own name, with sort code and account number. Fidelity links this for contributions, income, and withdrawals.
- Your current UK residential address.
- An email address for confirmations and statements.
- Tax residency details. You must declare every country where you are tax resident and give a tax identification number for each. UK-only residents will find this straightforward; dual residents should have their foreign tax ID to hand.5Fidelity International. Existing Individual Client – Self-Certification Form
- A debit card if you plan to fund the account during the application.

Investment ISA (2026/2027) Application Form Paper applications take longer because staff enter the details manually once the post arrives. Include a cheque if you want to fund the account straight away, or complete the Direct Debit mandate on the form to set up regular contributions.
Funding the Account
You can open the ISA with a lump sum of at least £1,000 or set up a regular savings plan from £25 a month.10Fidelity International. Ready-Made ISA Online applicants pay the initial contribution by debit card through a secure payment gateway inside the application. For ongoing contributions, a Direct Debit is the simplest route: it pulls from your bank on a set date each month and helps you spread the annual allowance rather than rushing before the April deadline.
The £20,000 limit covers every ISA contribution you make in a single tax year (6 April to 5 April), no matter how many ISAs you hold. If you have already paid into another stocks and shares ISA this tax year, only the unused balance can go into the Fidelity account. Since April 2024 you can split the allowance across more than one stocks and shares ISA with different providers.2GOV.UK. Individual Savings Accounts (ISAs)
Fidelity charges a platform service fee on top of the ongoing charges set by each fund you hold. The fee starts at 0.35% a year for balances up to £249,999, with a minimum of £7.50 a month if you have no regular savings plan on balances under £25,000.11Fidelity International. Stocks and Shares ISA Check the published fee schedule for larger balances before you commit.
Transferring an Existing ISA at the Same Time
If you already hold an ISA with another provider, you can ask Fidelity to transfer it in during the application, or start the transfer later from your dashboard.12Fidelity International. ISA Transfer – Transfer an ISA to Fidelity Fidelity handles the paperwork with your old provider. Cash transfers are usually quicker than in-specie transfers because there are no holdings to re-register, and the whole process can take several weeks depending on how quickly the outgoing provider releases the funds.
Previous-year ISA money can be transferred in full or in part. Any contributions you have already made in the current tax year must transfer in full if you move them at all. That is an HMRC rule and exists to stop current-year subscriptions being accidentally split across providers.
After You Submit
Fidelity confirms the new account by email with a client reference number and login details for the online dashboard. Online applications usually process within a few business days, although Fidelity does not publish a guaranteed timeline. Paper applications take longer because of postal transit and manual keying.
You do not need to pick investments during the application. Once funding clears, you can browse Fidelity’s fund range, read factsheets, and place trades from the dashboard. Cash sitting inside the ISA wrapper while you decide still counts toward your annual allowance. When you want to take money out, you can set up a regular income payment at monthly, quarterly, half-yearly, or annual frequency, processed four working days before your chosen date, or request a one-off withdrawal to your linked bank account.13Fidelity Adviser Solutions.
