To cancel a Screencastify subscription, sign in to your account on the Screencastify website, open My Account, go to Billing, scroll to the bottom, and click Cancel Subscription, then confirm. The cancellation runs through the web dashboard, not the Chrome extension, and it takes about two minutes.
One thing to know before you click: Screencastify treats “cancel” as turning off auto-renewal. Your paid features stay active through the end of the billing term you already paid for, and the company does not issue refunds for the unused portion.
Canceling an Individual Subscription
If you’re on the Starter or Pro plan, work from your personal account page:
- Go to Screencastify’s website and sign in with the Google account tied to your subscription.
- Open My Account, then Billing.
- Scroll to the bottom of the page and click Cancel Subscription.
- On the confirmation prompt, click Yes, Cancel.
Your dashboard should then show that auto-renew is off. No further charges will post, and the subscription stays live until the end of the current term.
Canceling as a License Manager
Administrators handling bulk education or organization licenses cancel from a different place:
- Open the License Manager and go to the Subscription page.
- Scroll to the bottom and click Cancel Subscription.
- In the pop-up, click Yes, Cancel to confirm, or Never Mind to back out.
- Look for the banner at the top of the Subscription page showing the date your term ends.
Screencastify does not generate a confirmation code. That banner is your confirmation, so take a screenshot and keep it with your billing records.
What Canceling Actually Does
Clicking Cancel Subscription disables automatic renewal. It does not end the subscription on the spot, and it does not trigger a refund. Screencastify’s Terms of Service state that full and prorated refunds will not be provided, whether you cancel one day or eleven months into your billing cycle. The practical effect is simple: you keep paid features until the term runs out, and then the account drops to the free tier.
When You Need to Contact Support
Two situations don’t fit the self-service flow. The first is wanting the subscription terminated before the paid term ends rather than just stopping the next renewal. The second is not seeing the Cancel Subscription option on your account page, which can happen with older or migrated accounts.
In either case, submit a request through Screencastify’s help center contact form. Including a screenshot or short screen recording of what you’re seeing tends to speed things up. There’s no published billing phone line, so the ticket system is the channel.
What Happens to Your Account and Videos
Once the paid term expires, the account becomes a free account. Free accounts cap your library at 10 videos and limit each recording to 30 minutes. Premium editing tools and advanced export options stop working.
Existing videos are not deleted when you downgrade. Anything already in your Screencastify library or synced to your Google Drive folder stays where it is. If you’re above the 10-video limit, you won’t be able to record new videos until you either upgrade again or delete enough to get under the cap, but nothing is purged automatically.
If You Hit Obstacles
The Federal Trade Commission’s “click-to-cancel” rule, finalized in late 2024, requires subscription services to provide a simple, straightforward way to cancel and stop recurring charges. If a cancellation path is unreasonably harder than signing up was, that can be an FTC violation. The rule gives you something to point to if a digital subscription of any kind makes leaving difficult.
