To cancel your Maurices credit card, call Comenity Bank at 1-866-248-4488, Monday through Saturday, 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Eastern time.1Comenity – Bread Financial. maurices Credit Card – Help The phone call is the fastest and most verifiable route. You can also send a written cancellation request by mail if you want documentation. Either way, a few steps before and after closing the account will keep your credit clean.
Before You Call
Three things trip people up: an unpaid balance, unused rewards, and recurring charges on the card.
Zero Out the Balance
Comenity won’t close an account with a balance on it. Credit cards charge interest daily, so even if your online balance reads zero after a recent payoff, trailing interest may have accrued between your last statement and today. Call and ask for a payoff amount that includes accrued interest through the current date, then pay exactly that figure.
Use Your mRewards
Maurices runs a loyalty program called mRewards tied to the credit card. Reward certificates expire 45 days after they’re issued.2Maurices Incorporated. mRewards Once the card is closed, you stop earning points and lose access to any unredeemed certificates. Spend them first.
Move Any Recurring Charges
If subscriptions or automatic payments are billed to your Maurices card, switch them to another payment method before you cancel. A closed card will decline the charge, but the merchant may not warn you. That can mean late fees or a lapsed service before you notice.
Cancel by Phone
Call 1-866-248-4488, the dedicated Maurices cardholder line.1Comenity – Bread Financial. maurices Credit Card – Help Have your 16-digit account number ready for the automated menu. When you reach a representative, say clearly that you want to close the account. Retention offers may follow. You don’t owe an explanation; “no thank you, please proceed with closing” is enough.
Before you hang up, do two things. Ask for a confirmation number and write it down. Then ask the agent to confirm the account shows a zero balance after closure. If any trailing interest remains, get the exact figure and pay it on the same call.
Cancel by Mail
If you want a paper trail, send a written cancellation request to Comenity Bank, PO Box 183003, Columbus, OH 43218.3Bread Financial. Get in Touch for Credit Card Help Include your full name, account number, the date, and a clear statement that you’re requesting the account be closed. Keep a copy.
Send it USPS Certified Mail with a return receipt. The green card that comes back proves when Comenity received your letter, which matters if you later need to dispute charges or credit reporting. Expect the process to take a few weeks rather than minutes.
Can You Cancel Online?
Comenity’s online portal has a Secure Message Center, and some cardholders have used it to request closure. Comenity does not advertise online cancellation as an official option, and there’s no guarantee a secure message will be handled the same way as a phone call. If you try it, follow up by phone to confirm the account actually closed.
After You Cancel
Watch for a Final Statement
Comenity will generate one more statement about a month after closure. It may include a small trailing interest charge that accrued between your last payment and the actual closure date. Pay any balance promptly. An unpaid amount on a closed account can eventually be reported as delinquent.
Check Your Credit Report
About 30 to 60 days after closure, pull your credit report and confirm the account shows “closed at consumer’s request” rather than “closed by creditor.” Federal law requires Comenity to report accurately to the bureaus.4Office of the Law Revision Counsel. 15 USC 1681s-2 – Responsibilities of Furnishers of Information to Consumer Reporting Agencies If the status is wrong, dispute it with the bureau. You can pull free reports weekly from all three bureaus at AnnualCreditReport.com.5Federal Trade Commission. Free Credit Reports A closed account in good standing stays on your report for up to 10 years and keeps contributing to your credit history length during that time.
How Closing the Card Affects Your Credit Score
Canceling a credit card can pull your score down, at least temporarily. Two factors drive that.
Your credit utilization ratio measures how much of your total available credit you’re using. Closing the Maurices card removes its limit from that total, so any balances you carry on other cards now represent a larger share of what’s left. That higher ratio can lower your score.6Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. Does It Hurt My Credit to Close a Credit Card? The effect is largest when the Maurices card had a high limit or your other cards already carry balances.
Scoring models also favor longer credit histories. If the Maurices card is one of your oldest accounts, closing it can eventually shorten your average account age.7TransUnion. How Closing Accounts Can Affect Credit Scores The hit isn’t immediate, since the closed account stays on your report for up to a decade, but it lands once the account ages off.
A small dip is often worth it if the card encourages spending you wouldn’t otherwise do or you rarely shop at Maurices. If you’re about to apply for a mortgage or car loan, consider waiting until after that application closes, because even a few points can move your rate.
Authorized Users
If someone is listed on your account as an authorized user, closing the card removes that tradeline from their credit report entirely. It doesn’t show as a closed account on their record; it disappears, along with the payment history and account age it was contributing. Give any authorized users a heads-up before you cancel.
Closure Is Permanent
Once a Comenity account is closed, it stays closed. The bank does not reopen canceled credit cards. If you want a Maurices card later, you’d submit a new application, take a fresh credit inquiry, and receive whatever terms and limit the bank offers at that point. Treat the cancellation as final before you make the call.
