To cancel an Instagram subscription, you have to cancel it in the same place you bought it: inside the Instagram app for a creator subscription, in your iPhone settings if Apple charged you, in the Google Play Store if Google charged you, or on Meta’s website if you paid Meta directly. Canceling in the wrong place is the single most common reason charges keep hitting your card after you thought you were done.
Find Out Who Is Actually Billing You
Before you tap anything, check who is collecting your money. Look for the original purchase receipt in your email. A receipt from apple.com/bill means Apple is your billing provider. A receipt from Google Play means Google is. A receipt from Meta means you bought directly from Meta on a desktop browser.
No receipt? Look at your bank or card statement. The merchant name on the charge tells you where to cancel.
One other thing to sort out: which kind of subscription you have. Creator subscriptions are monthly payments to a specific Instagram creator for subscriber-only posts, stories, and live streams. Meta Verified is a separate product with a verification badge, impersonation monitoring, and account support. They cancel through different paths, so don’t assume the steps are the same.
Cancel a Creator Subscription in the Instagram App
If you’re paying a creator for exclusive content, cancel inside Instagram. Open the app, go to that creator’s profile, and tap the Subscribed button. On the subscription page, tap Manage, then tap Cancel subscription on the details screen.
This path only works for creator subscriptions. Meta Verified will not appear here.
Cancel Through Apple on iPhone or iPad
If Apple bills you, the cancel button lives in your device settings, not in Instagram. Open Settings, tap your name at the top, then tap Subscriptions. Find the Instagram or Meta Verified entry, open it, and tap Cancel Subscription.1Apple Support. If You Want to Cancel a Subscription From Apple
The cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period. Your benefits stay active until that date, and Apple won’t charge you again after it.
Cancel Through Google Play on Android
On Android, open the Play Store app, tap your profile icon in the upper right, and go to Payments & subscriptions, then Subscriptions. Find the Instagram or Meta Verified listing, tap it, and follow the prompts.2Google Play Help. Cancel, Pause, or Change a Subscription on Google Play
Same as Apple, Google stops the next renewal rather than cutting access off right away. You keep the benefits through the end of the cycle you already paid for.
Cancel on the Instagram or Meta Website
If you subscribed directly through Meta on a desktop browser, cancel on the web. Log in to Instagram, click your profile icon, and go to Settings. Open the Accounts Center, then look under payments for a Subscriptions section. Select the active subscription and click through the cancellation prompts.
Meta Verified business accounts follow a different path. Open Meta Business Suite on a computer, go to Settings, find the Meta Verified section, and click Cancel subscription.3Meta. What Happens After You Cancel
Nothing shuts off immediately. You keep your subscription benefits until the end of the billing period you already paid for.3Meta. Cancel Your Meta Verified Business Subscription If you paid on the 5th, access runs through the 5th of the next month.
Once that period ends, Meta Verified subscribers lose the badge, impersonation monitoring, and priority support. One catch worth knowing about: if you changed your profile name, username, or profile photo while verified, you can’t change any of those again without re-subscribing and going through verification a second time.
For a creator subscription, subscriber-only posts, stories, and badges disappear from your view once the paid period ends. Meta does not offer partial refunds for the unused time left in a cycle.3Meta. Cancel Your Meta Verified Business Subscription
Requesting a Refund
Meta’s no-refund policy isn’t necessarily the last word if something went wrong. Where you can turn depends on who billed you.
If Apple billed you, go to reportaproblem.apple.com, sign in, choose Request a refund, pick a reason, select the charge, and submit. Apple usually responds within 48 hours and evaluates each request on its own facts.4Apple Support. Request a Refund for Apps or Content That You Bought From Apple
If Google Play billed you, Google suggests contacting the app developer first as the fastest route for purchase issues. If Meta billed you directly, options are narrower. Meta’s stated policy is that it does not offer credits or partial refunds for canceled subscriptions. An accidental purchase or an unauthorized charge is still worth raising with Meta support, but a routine change-of-mind refund is unlikely.
