How to Cancel Your Instacart Subscription and Get a Refund

To cancel your Instacart subscription, open the account that bills you — Instacart directly, the Apple App Store, Google Play, or PayPal — and turn off the auto-renewal there. The Instacart+ membership costs $9.99 per month or $99 per year and renews automatically until you stop it.1Instacart. Instacart+ Your benefits stay active through the end of the current billing period no matter when in the cycle you cancel, so there’s no reason to wait until the last day.

Cancel Through Instacart’s Website or App

If you signed up on instacart.com or entered your card directly in the Instacart app, cancel through Instacart itself.

On the website, log in and click the three horizontal lines in the upper-left corner. Select “Your Instacart+ membership,” then under “Manage your membership,” click “Cancel membership.” Instacart will likely offer a discount or a temporary pause; click “Continue to cancel” to skip it, then “Confirm cancellation.”2Instacart. In the app, the path is the same. Tap the three lines or the account icon, choose “Your Instacart+ membership,” scroll to “Manage your membership,” tap “Cancel membership,” and confirm. You’ll see a confirmation on screen and get an email. If it doesn’t show up, check spam.2Instacart. Manage Your Instacart+ Membership

Cancel Through Apple, Google Play, or PayPal

If you subscribed through an app store or PayPal, that platform handles the billing, and the cancel button inside Instacart won’t appear. Deleting the Instacart app does not stop the charges.

On the PayPal website, go to Settings, click “Payments,” then “Subscriptions and saved businesses” or “Automatic Payments.” Find Instacart and cancel the automatic payment. Refunds and What You Keep Until the Period Ends

Annual members get a narrow refund window. You have five calendar days from the start of a paid annual membership to cancel and get a full refund, but only if you haven’t placed any orders using membership benefits during that time. Use the free delivery once and the refund is gone.2Instacart. Manage Your Instacart+ Membership

Monthly members don’t get prorated refunds. Cancel on day three of a monthly cycle and you keep the benefits for the rest of the month, but you won’t see any money back for the unused days.

After cancellation takes effect, your account reverts to standard Instacart. You can still place orders; you’ll just pay the regular delivery and service fees.2Instacart. Manage Your Instacart+ Membership

When the Cancel Option Isn’t There

Some people report that the “Cancel membership” button simply doesn’t appear in their account settings. Try these in order:

  • Check how you originally subscribed. If it was through Apple, Google Play, or PayPal, the cancel option won’t appear inside Instacart — go to that platform instead.
  • Try the website instead of the app. The desktop site sometimes shows account controls that the mobile app buries.
  • Call Instacart. Customer support is at 1-888-246-7822. A specialized support line is available at 1-844-981-3433, daily from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. ET. Tell the agent you want to cancel Instacart+ and turn off auto-renewal. You’re not obligated to accept a discount or pause offer.1Instacart. Instacart+6Instacart. Senior and Specialized Support Line
  • Dispute the charge with your bank as a last resort. If Instacart keeps charging you after a good-faith cancellation effort, contact your card issuer. Federal law caps your liability for unauthorized credit card charges at $50, and your issuer must acknowledge a written billing dispute within 30 days and resolve it within 90 days. Send the dispute in writing to the billing inquiry address on your statement, not the payment address, within 60 days of the charge appearing.7Federal Trade Commission. A chargeback can complicate things with the merchant and may lead to your Instacart account being suspended, so exhaust Instacart’s own cancellation paths before going to your bank.

Your Right to an Easy Cancellation

Federal law is on your side. Under the Restore Online Shoppers’ Confidence Act, a company that sells subscriptions online must provide simple cancellation mechanisms that are at least as easy to use as the sign-up method.8Office of the Law Revision Counsel. 15 USC 8403 – Negative Option Marketing on the Internet One-click signup with a maze-of-phone-trees cancellation is exactly what the statute targets. The FTC enforces these rules and is considering stronger requirements around subscription cancellation practices.
