How to Cancel Your Grok Subscription and Get a Refund

To cancel a Grok subscription, go to whichever service actually charged you: X for Premium plans bought on x.com, xAI for standalone SuperGrok plans bought at grok.com, and Apple or Google if you subscribed through a mobile app. Canceling stops future billing but does not return money already paid. Under xAI’s terms, payments are non-refundable except where local law requires otherwise, so a refund is a separate request with no guarantee of approval.1xAI. Terms of Service – Consumer

Find Out Who Is Actually Billing You

Grok is sold two different ways, and the cancellation path depends entirely on which one you have. If you signed up on x.com or in the X app, you have an X Premium plan that includes Grok access. If you signed up at grok.com, you have a standalone SuperGrok subscription through xAI. If you subscribed inside a mobile app, the charge may have gone through Apple or Google instead of X or xAI directly.

Check your credit card or bank statement before you do anything else. The merchant name on the charge tells you exactly which company you need to deal with: X, xAI, Apple, or Google. Trying to cancel through the wrong one is the most common reason people get stuck.

Cancel X Premium on the Web

If you subscribed to X Premium through x.com, cancel from the X website:

  • Log in at x.com.
  • Click More in the left sidebar.
  • Select Settings and Support, then Settings and privacy.
  • Go to Subscriptions.
  • Click Cancel Subscription and confirm.

X may offer a discount or retention deal along the way. Decline it if you want to fully cancel. Premium features, including Grok access, stay active until the end of the billing period you already paid for.2X. X Premium FAQ

Cancel a Standalone SuperGrok Plan

For a plan bought directly at grok.com, xAI directs payment and cancellation questions to support@x.ai.1xAI. Terms of Service – Consumer Email them with the address on your account and any billing transaction IDs from your confirmation emails so they can verify you quickly.

If you signed up inside the Grok mobile app, double-check your statement. The charge may actually route through Apple or Google rather than xAI, and in that case xAI cannot cancel it for you.

Cancel Through Apple or Google

When a subscription was purchased through the App Store or Google Play, the app store controls the cancellation. X and xAI cannot cancel it on your behalf.

iPhone or iPad

Open Settings, tap your name at the top, and tap Subscriptions. Find the Grok or X Premium listing, open it, and choose the cancel option. If the Subscription Doesn’t Show Up

A subscription only appears in the app store that originally processed the payment. If Grok or X Premium isn’t in your Apple or Google list, it wasn’t bought there. Check your card statement, identify the real merchant, and cancel through that channel instead.

What Canceling Does and Doesn’t Do

Cancellation stops the next charge. It does not refund the current billing period, and there is no proration for unused days. Your paid features continue until the period you already paid for ends, then the account drops to whatever free tier Grok is offering at the time.

Save a screenshot of the cancellation confirmation. If a charge appears after your cancellation date, that screenshot turns a messy dispute into a simple one.

Requesting a Refund

Getting money back is a separate step, and the odds depend on how you paid and how quickly you act. xAI’s terms state that payments are non-refundable except where required by law, and X takes the same position for Premium.2X. X Premium FAQ The strongest cases are technical failures, accidental purchases, and unauthorized charges.

One built-in exception exists for consumers in the European Union: a 14-day cooling-off period after signing up for a digital service purchased online.5European Union. Returns and the Right of Withdrawal xAI acknowledges this in its terms and asks EU consumers to send a withdrawal notice to support@x.ai within that window.1xAI. Through Google Play

Credit Card Chargebacks Come With a Cost

If every official channel denies your refund and you believe the charge was unauthorized or the service was fundamentally misrepresented, you can dispute the charge with your bank or card issuer. Banks often side with consumers on subscription disputes. But digital platforms routinely suspend or permanently ban accounts with open chargebacks, and this is standard across the industry. If xAI or X detects a chargeback, expect to lose the whole account, not just the subscription, along with any purchased features or content tied to it. Treat this as a last resort after the official refund process has been exhausted and each denial documented.

Your Right to an Easy Cancellation

The FTC’s negative option rule requires companies to make cancellation at least as easy as sign-up. If you subscribed online, they must offer an equally simple online way out, and they cannot force you to call a phone line or wade through an intentionally confusing process unless you originally signed up through a live agent.10Federal Trade Commission. Negative Option Rule

If X or xAI makes cancellation unreasonably difficult by comparison, that may violate the rule. You can file a complaint at ftc.gov/complaint. The FTC won’t resolve your individual refund, but complaints feed enforcement actions.
