How to Cancel Your Grifin Subscription and Withdraw Funds

To cancel your Grifin subscription, open the app, tap the menu icon in the top-left corner of the home screen, and tap “Close My Account” under the Other section.1Grifin. Stopping the monthly fee is only part of the job, so work through every step before you confirm.

Cancel Inside the Grifin App

The in-app path is the one Grifin’s help center points you to: menu icon, then Close My Account under Other. Follow each of the six prompts. Skipping one can leave holdings unsold or cash stranded in the brokerage account.

Check Whether You’re Billed Through Apple or Google

This is where most cancellations fail. If you originally signed up through the Apple App Store or Google Play, canceling inside the Grifin app will not stop the charge on your card. Apple and Google run their own billing, and the subscription has to be canceled with whichever one processes the payment.

On iPhone: Settings, tap your name, Subscriptions, find Grifin, Cancel Subscription. On Android: open Google Play, tap your profile icon, Payments & Subscriptions, Subscriptions, select Grifin, cancel. Refund Window

Grifin’s fee schedule lists the membership at $5 per month or $60 per year, cancel-anytime.5Grifin. Grifin’s cancellation policy mentions a full refund window during the first 30 days of membership. Inside that window, you may recover your initial payment. After 30 days, canceling stops future charges but doesn’t entitle you to a prorated refund for the current period.

Sell Your Holdings and Withdraw the Cash

Grifin holds fractional shares of the companies where you’ve spent money, and those shares need to be sold before you can pull the proceeds out. The closure flow prompts the sales, but confirm no trades are still pending before you request the cash withdrawal.

Grifin’s brokerage services run through Alpaca Securities and Apex Clearing Corporation, both FINRA/SIPC members.7Grifin. Transfer Shares Instead of Selling?

You can request an ACAT to move your investments to another brokerage, but the math rarely works. Apex Clearing charges $75 per outbound transfer and Alpaca Securities charges $100.5Grifin. Grifin Fee Schedule For a small micro-investing balance, that fee can exceed the account value.

Fractional shares complicate it further. They exist inside Grifin’s internal system rather than as standalone shares on an exchange, so only whole shares transfer through ACAT. Any fractional remainder gets liquidated, which creates a taxable event whether you wanted one or not. Selling everything and withdrawing the cash is usually simpler and cheaper.

Taxes When You Close the Account

Every sale of stock, including fractional shares, is a taxable event. Liquidating your Grifin holdings triggers capital gains tax on any profit above what you paid. Shares held more than a year get long-term rates; a year or less gets short-term rates. Losses can offset other gains on your return.

Cost basis on Grifin gets messy. Each automated purchase created a separate tax lot at a different price, so a single stock can have dozens of tiny lots. Grifin’s clearing brokers report these sales to the IRS on Form 1099-B.9Internal Revenue Service. Watch your linked bank account in the weeks after closure too. If dividends were declared before you sold but paid after, the clearing broker may send a small payment or check that still needs to be reported.

If Charges Keep Coming

If you’ve canceled with Grifin and with the app store and still see debits, you can revoke the company’s authorization to pull from your account. Tell your bank you’ve withdrawn permission for Grifin to take automatic payments, and follow up in writing. Revoking payment authorization does not close the underlying account, so make sure Grifin has fully processed the closure on its side. A dormant brokerage account left open can eventually be turned over to the state as unclaimed property.
