How to Cancel Your GoDaddy Microsoft 365 Subscription

To cancel a GoDaddy Microsoft 365 subscription, sign in to your GoDaddy account and use the Renewals & Billing page. You have two options: turn off auto-renew, which keeps the service running until the current billing period ends, or delete the product, which ends access right away. GoDaddy handles the billing and licensing as a reseller, so this happens in the GoDaddy dashboard, not the Microsoft admin center.

Turn Off Auto-Renew or Delete Immediately

The two paths behave very differently, and picking the wrong one can cost you data or money.

Turning off auto-renew leaves your subscription active until the end of the current billing cycle. Email, OneDrive files, and Microsoft 365 apps keep working until that date. Once the period expires, GoDaddy deletes the product and its data from your account.

Deleting the product ends the subscription right away, even if paid time remains. Email and files become inaccessible immediately. Use this option only if you need to stop service now or want to trigger a refund request within GoDaddy’s narrow windows.1GoDaddy. Turn Off Auto-Renew

For most people who just want to stop paying, turning off auto-renew is the right move.

Back Up Your Email and Files Before You Cancel

Once a Microsoft 365 seat is deleted, the mailbox and cloud files go with it. Export your data first.

In classic Outlook on Windows, open File, then Open & Export, then Import/Export. Choose “Export to a file,” select “Outlook Data File (.pst),” pick the email account, check “Include subfolders,” and save the file to your local drive. Repeat separately for contacts, calendars, and tasks if you want those. On Mac, legacy Outlook exports to an .olm archive through File and then Export.2GoDaddy. Export or Backup My Contacts, Calendar, Email and Tasks

One catch: if Cached Exchange Mode is on, Outlook only syncs the last 12 months of mail. Turn it off before exporting so you capture the full mailbox. For OneDrive, open it in your browser, select your files, and download them as a zip to your computer or an external drive.

Steps to Turn Off Auto-Renew

  1. Sign in to your GoDaddy account and open the Renewals & Billing page.
  2. Select Manage Subscriptions.
  3. Find and select the Microsoft 365 product you want to cancel.
  4. Select Turn off Auto-Renew.
  5. Choose a reason for canceling from the dropdown, then select Continue to Cancel.
  6. Select Confirm Cancel.

The dashboard will show the exact date your subscription will end. Everything keeps working until then. After that date, the product and its data are deleted.1GoDaddy. Turn Off Auto-Renew

Steps to Delete the Product Immediately

  1. Open the Renewals & Billing page and select Manage Subscriptions.
  2. Select the Microsoft 365 product you want to delete.
  3. If auto-renew is still on, turn it off first using the steps above, then click the link to proceed with deletion.
  4. If auto-renew is already off, select Delete.
  5. Check the box acknowledging you’ll receive a verification email, then select Send email.
  6. Open the “Are you sure?” email from GoDaddy and click Yes, I Want to Delete.
  7. Back in your account, select Delete product to confirm.

The email confirmation exists to prevent accidental deletions. If you don’t click the link in the email, the deletion won’t process.3GoDaddy. Delete Products in My GoDaddy Account

Early Cancellation Fees on 12-Month Plans

If you’re on a 12-month commitment plan and cancel within the first 180 days, GoDaddy charges an early cancellation fee. The amount depends on your plan:

  • Microsoft 365 Email Essentials: $10
  • Microsoft 365 Email Plus with Security: $20
  • Microsoft 365 Secure Online Essentials: $40
  • Microsoft 365 Secure Business Professional: $60

These fees currently apply only in the United States. After 180 days, no early cancellation fee applies, but you also won’t get a prorated refund for unused months outside the refund windows below.4GoDaddy. Why Choose a 12-Month Commitment With an Early Cancellation Fee

Refund Windows Are Short

GoDaddy’s refund windows for Microsoft 365 are tighter than for most of its other products. Annual plans have a 7-day window (168 hours) from the transaction date. Monthly plans have 48 hours. Miss those and no refund is available, no matter how much unused time is left.5GoDaddy. GoDaddy – Refund Policy

The 7-day annual window is notably shorter than GoDaddy’s standard 30-day refund period on most other annual products, so don’t assume experience with another GoDaddy service carries over.5GoDaddy. GoDaddy – Refund Policy

After canceling, request the refund through GoDaddy’s refund request page or by contacting support. Approved refunds return to the original payment method and usually take several business days.6GoDaddy. Request a Refund From GoDaddy

One boundary worth noting: if you bought the subscription through the GoDaddy app on Apple’s App Store or Google Play, GoDaddy can’t refund it. Cancel and request the refund through the app store where you made the purchase.7GoDaddy. Request a Refund for Mobile App Store Purchase

What Happens to Your Data After Cancellation

Deleting the product ends your access right away, but Microsoft doesn’t wipe the data the same day. Microsoft keeps customer data in a limited-function state for 90 days after a subscription ends, so subscribers can retrieve anything they missed. After that window, Microsoft deletes the data entirely, with everything gone no later than 180 days after cancellation.8Microsoft Learn. What Happens to My Data and Access When My Microsoft 365 for Business Subscription Ends

Recovering data from a canceled GoDaddy-managed tenant is messy because you no longer have normal admin access. Treat the 90 days as an emergency window, not a backup plan.

Your Domain Stays Registered

Canceling a Microsoft 365 email subscription does not cancel your domain registration. They’re separate products in your GoDaddy account with independent billing. Your website and domain keep working.

However, if you were using Microsoft 365 for email, the MX records that route incoming mail to Microsoft’s servers will stop working once the subscription ends, and incoming messages will bounce. If you’re moving to another email provider, update your DNS records to point to the new service before or shortly after cancellation.

If You Want to Keep Microsoft 365 Without GoDaddy

You don’t have to cancel and start over. The process for moving your tenant from GoDaddy’s reseller control to a direct relationship with Microsoft is called defederation. It lets you keep your existing mailboxes, data, and settings.

Microsoft points to GoDaddy’s own guide for this process and warns against unofficial third-party tools, which can lock you out of SharePoint or your mailbox.9Microsoft Learn. Defederation Process for Microsoft 365 Admins Using GoDaddy

Defederation through GoDaddy’s standard process doesn’t always go smoothly. If your tenant is stuck and you can’t remove the reseller relationship through the admin center, the workaround is a tenant-to-tenant migration: create a new Microsoft 365 subscription directly with Microsoft, then contact Microsoft support through the new tenant’s admin center and request migration of your data from the old GoDaddy-controlled tenant.10Microsoft Learn. Either path takes more effort than a straight cancellation, but you keep your email history and files without relying on .pst exports. For a large mailbox or multiple users, that’s often worth the extra work.
