How to Cancel Your Freedom Mobile Plan: MyTab Fees and Final Bill

To cancel your Freedom Mobile plan, contact customer care by phone at 611 from your device or 1-877-946-3184 from any North American line, or reach a representative through live chat, WhatsApp, or Apple Messages. There is no online button that closes the account on its own. What the cancellation costs depends on whether you still owe money on a device through MyTab or TradeUp, and if you want to keep your phone number, you need to line things up with your new carrier before you cancel.

How to Reach Freedom Mobile

Freedom Mobile handles cancellations through the same channels it uses for general support:

  • Phone: 611 from a Freedom Mobile device, 1-877-946-3184 toll-free within North America, or +1-647-700-2435 from abroad.
  • Live messaging through the Freedom Mobile website or app.
  • WhatsApp or Apple Messages via the links on the contact page.

Support runs seven days a week, 8 a.m. to 1 a.m. Eastern Time.1Freedom Mobile. Contact Us Before you call, log into My Account to check your MyTab or TradeUp balance so you know what the final charge should look like. When the cancellation is processed, ask for a confirmation number or interaction ID. That’s your proof if the final bill doesn’t match what you were told.

Keep Your Number: Port Before You Cancel

If you want to take your phone number with you, do not call Freedom Mobile to cancel first. Cancelling before you port means the number is gone permanently and cannot be recovered.2Freedom Mobile. About: Cancellation

Sign up with your new carrier and ask them to port your existing number over. Freedom Mobile will send an authorization SMS or email that you have to answer with “Yes” within 90 minutes. Miss the window and the request cancels automatically, and your new carrier has to start again. Keep the Freedom SIM active and the phone powered on until the transfer completes. If you’re activating an eSIM on a new device, wait for the port to finish first. Once the number moves successfully, your Freedom Mobile account closes on its own. No separate cancellation call is needed.3Freedom Mobile. About: Transferring your Number

What Cancelling Costs: MyTab and TradeUp

MyTab spreads a phone’s cost over up to 24 monthly payments. Cancel before the term is up and the remaining MyTab balance becomes due immediately as an early cancellation fee.4Freedom Mobile. MyTab Additional Terms of Service The balance drops each month you stay, so the longer you’ve been paying, the less you owe when you leave.

The CRTC’s Wireless Code caps what carriers can charge here. The early cancellation fee cannot exceed the device subsidy (the gap between the phone’s retail price and what you paid upfront), it must decrease to zero over a maximum of 24 months, and no additional penalty can be added on top of that remaining subsidy.5Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission. The Wireless Code, Simplified A partially elapsed month counts as a full month in your favour, so cancelling on day two of a billing cycle still credits you for the whole month.

If your original purchase included a MyTab Bonus (a promotional credit applied at purchase), cancelling early or downgrading to a cheaper plan within 24 months can trigger a separate charge equal to all or a prorated portion of that bonus.2Freedom Mobile. About: Cancellation Check your original agreement, because many people don’t notice the bonus was part of the deal until the final bill lands.

TradeUp works differently. You received an upfront credit toward the phone’s price (the “TradeUp Return Value”) in exchange for agreeing to return the device at the end of a 24-month term. Cancel early and both the remaining MyTab balance and the full TradeUp Return Value can be charged to your account. If you plan to finish the term and return the phone, service must still be active when you send the device back, so don’t cancel or port out before the return is complete. If the device doesn’t meet the return conditions or you want to keep it, the TradeUp amount plus tax is added to your next bill.6Freedom Mobile. What is Freedom Mobile’s TradeUp Program?

Your Final Bill and Any Refund

You’re responsible for all charges through the date service ends, plus any remaining MyTab or TradeUp balance. Overdue amounts accrue 2% monthly interest (26.82% annually), so pay the closing bill promptly.7Freedom Mobile. Terms of Service

If your postpaid account closes with a credit balance of $10 or more, Freedom Mobile will refund it within 30 days, either to a credit card you recently used or by cheque to your address on file. Balances under $10 aren’t refunded automatically; you’d have to contact customer care to ask for one.7Freedom Mobile. Terms of Service Look at your final statement and check that the prorated charges for your last partial month match your actual cancellation date.

Prepaid Accounts Work Differently

If you’re on prepaid, all payments (including top-up vouchers and one-time connection fees) are non-refundable.8Freedom Mobile. About the Return/Exchange Policy You can cancel formally through customer care, or simply stop topping up and the account auto-terminates after 90 days of inactivity. Any remaining credit is forfeited, and Freedom Mobile can reassign your phone number at that point.7Freedom Mobile. Terms of Service If you have prepaid credit left and you’re leaving anyway, use it before you go.

Keeping the Phone After You Cancel

Any phone bought from Freedom Mobile after December 1, 2017, is already unlocked and will work on another compatible carrier as soon as service ends.9Freedom Mobile. About: Unlock Codes Unlocking is tied to purchase date, not to whether you’ve paid off MyTab, so a balance owing doesn’t lock the device. For phones bought before that cutoff, you can request an unlock code from support, though older devices on different network bands may have limited compatibility with other Canadian carriers regardless.
