How to Cancel Your BPI Credit Card: Phone, Written Request, and Fees

To cancel a BPI credit card, you have two options under the bank’s terms: call the 24-hour BPI Contact Center, or submit a written cancellation request that BPI physically receives. There is no cancellation option inside BPI Online or the mobile app.1Bank of the Philippine Islands. Credit Card Terms and Conditions Before you call or write, settle your outstanding balance and redeem any rewards you want to keep, because closure is conditional on payment and some rewards expire quickly once the account is closed.

Settle Your Balance and Redeem Rewards First

BPI’s terms state that cancellation is “subject to the immediate payment or settlement” of your total outstanding balance.1Bank of the Philippine Islands. Credit Card Terms and Conditions Pull up your latest statement and look for pending transactions, installment plan balances, and interest that may have posted since your last payment. If you have an active balance conversion or installment plan, the remaining amount folds into the balance you need to clear.

Rewards points do not disappear the instant you close the card, but a deadline kicks in. Once your last remaining BPI account is cancelled, any unused rewards points are forfeited if you do not redeem them within 60 days.2Bank of the Philippine Islands. If you hold another BPI product that earns rewards, your points survive the closure of this card.

Cancelling by Phone

Call the 24-hour BPI Contact Center at (+632) 889-10000 from Metro Manila.3Bank of the Philippine Islands. BPI Help and Support If you are overseas, BPI maintains toll-free numbers for dozens of countries, and callers whose country or carrier isn’t on the list can dial their international access code followed by +63-2-88910000. Mobile carriers sometimes block calls to international toll-free numbers, and any carrier charges are yours to cover.5Bank of the Philippine Islands. International Toll-Free Numbers

Have these ready before you dial:

  • Your 16-digit card number, so the agent can pull up the account.
  • Your full name as it appears on the card.
  • Your date of birth and a government-issued ID, ideally the same ID type you used when applying.

The agent will confirm your outstanding balance and process the closure request. Expect a retention offer, often an annual fee waiver or rewards bonus. A polite “please proceed with cancellation” is enough if you’ve decided. If you also hold supplementary cards on the account, tell the agent to close all of them; BPI treats the primary and supplementary cards as a single account, and balances across every card must be settled before closure.1Bank of the Philippine Islands. Cancelling in Writing

A written request is the other approved channel. The terms require that BPI actually receive the letter, so hand-delivering it at a branch is the safest route. Include your full name, your card number, a clear statement that you want the account closed, and your signature. Ask the branch representative for a stamped acknowledgment copy as proof of submission.

Fees That Can Still Apply

Two fee issues trip people up.

First, membership fees already paid are not refundable. BPI’s terms are explicit: once the card is suspended or cancelled, membership fees are non-reimbursable.1Bank of the Philippine Islands. Credit Card Terms and Conditions If the annual fee just posted, cancelling today will not claw it back. Check your billing cycle and time the cancellation before the next annual fee posts.

Second, if your card came through BPI’s Express Start program, where the card is secured against a deposit hold-out, a non-waivable cancellation fee applies when you cancel all your BPI credit cards before the first anniversary of your earliest card. The only exception is if BPI never delivered the card.1Bank of the Philippine Islands. Credit Card Terms and Conditions If you are inside that first year, factor this into your decision.

After You Request Cancellation

Ask the agent for a reference number or written confirmation that the request is in the system. If charges or interest show up later, that reference is what you’ll point to. BPI may issue a final billing statement reflecting residual interest that posted between your last payment and the cancellation date. Pay that promptly so the account doesn’t tip into delinquency on its way out.

Keep checking the account through BPI Online or the mobile app until the status shows as closed. If it still appears active after a few weeks, call back with your reference number and ask for an update.

Destroy the physical card once the closure is in motion. BPI’s terms require you to perforate the card to prevent unauthorized use.1Bank of the Philippine Islands. For a metal card, your branch can handle disposal if you don’t have the tools at home.
