How to Cancel Xbox Subscription on Phone or App

To cancel an Xbox subscription on your phone, open a mobile browser, sign in at account.microsoft.com/services, tap Manage next to your Xbox plan, and select Cancel subscription. The process takes about two minutes on iPhone or Android. The one exception: if you originally subscribed through the Google Play Store, you have to cancel inside Google Play, because Microsoft can’t end a subscription billed by another platform.

Have This Ready Before You Start

You’ll need the email address (or phone number) and password for the Microsoft account tied to your Xbox profile. Not sure which email that is? Search your inbox for a past billing receipt from Microsoft. A session timeout partway through cancellation means starting over, so sort your credentials first.

If two-step verification is on, keep the device that receives your codes within reach, whether that’s the Microsoft Authenticator app, a text message, or a backup email.1Microsoft. 2-Step Authentication Forgotten your password? Tap “Forgotten your password?” on the sign-in page and Microsoft will send a verification code to your recovery email or phone. If both are out of reach, Microsoft’s sign-in helper tool walks through alternative identity verification.2Microsoft. Reset a Forgotten Microsoft Account Password

Cancel Through a Mobile Browser

This is the most reliable path and works on any phone. iPhone users, take note: Xbox Game Pass is billed directly by Microsoft, not through Apple, so it won’t appear in your iPhone’s subscription settings. Safari or Chrome is where you go.

  1. Open a mobile browser and go to account.microsoft.com/services.
  2. Sign in with your Microsoft account.
  3. Under Services & subscriptions, find your Xbox subscription.
  4. Tap Manage next to it.
  5. Select Cancel subscription and follow the prompts.

During the flow, Microsoft may offer to turn off recurring billing instead of canceling outright, and it will check whether you qualify for a refund.3Microsoft Support. Change Your Microsoft Subscription Payment Method and Options

Cancel From the Xbox Mobile App

The Xbox app can start the cancellation, but it hands you off to a browser to finish. Open the app, go to Settings, and select My Subscriptions under Account. Tap the subscription you want to cancel, and the app redirects you to your Microsoft account page in your phone’s default browser. From there, the steps match the browser method above.

The redirect is normal. Microsoft processes billing changes through its secure web portal rather than inside the app.

If You Subscribed Through Google Play

Android users who signed up through the Play Store have to cancel through Google. When Google handles your billing, Microsoft’s account page won’t show a cancel option for that subscription. Uninstalling the Xbox app does not stop the charges; the subscription keeps renewing until you cancel it explicitly in Google Play.4Google Play Help. Cancel, Pause, or Change a Subscription on Google Play

  1. Open the Google Play Store app.
  2. Tap your profile icon, then Payments & subscriptions, then Subscriptions.
  3. Select your Xbox Game Pass subscription.
  4. Tap Cancel subscription and follow the prompts.

You can also get there through your phone’s Settings app by tapping Google, then Manage your Google Account, then Payments & subscriptions. After canceling through Google Play, you keep access for the rest of the period you already paid for.4Google Play Help. Cancel, Pause, or Change a Subscription on Google Play

Turn Off Recurring Billing Instead

If you want to keep using Game Pass through the end of the period you already paid for and just stop future charges, turning off recurring billing is the cleaner option. The subscription runs out and quietly expires, and you don’t lose access a day early.5Xbox Support. Xbox Subscription Cancellations and Refunds

Follow the same path through account.microsoft.com/services, tap Manage, and choose Turn off recurring billing rather than Cancel. Your account dashboard will show the exact date access ends. For most people, this is the right starting point unless you specifically want a refund.

Will You Get a Refund

Not every cancellation produces one. Microsoft decides refund eligibility automatically during the cancellation flow, based on when you cancel relative to your last billing date and where you live. In most countries, prorated refunds for Xbox subscriptions aren’t offered. A handful of regions, including Canada, France, and South Korea, allow prorated refunds at any point in the billing period under local consumer protection rules.6Microsoft Support. Microsoft Subscription Refund Policy

If a refund is issued, expect access to end shortly after it processes rather than at the end of your billing cycle. If no refund is issued, your access runs through the date you already paid for.

What Happens After You Cancel

Once the subscription ends, you lose access to the Game Pass library. Games you downloaded through Game Pass but never bought separately will stop launching. Games you purchased outright at a member discount stay yours.

Cloud saves are not tied to your subscription. Progress, achievements, and save files stay in your account indefinitely, so if you resubscribe later, everything is still there.5Xbox Support. Xbox Subscription Cancellations and Refunds

Watch for a confirmation email from Microsoft after you cancel. It’s your receipt if a billing dispute comes up later. If you turned off recurring billing rather than canceling, your dashboard at account.microsoft.com/services shows the exact expiration date, so you know precisely when access ends.
