How to Cancel Viasat Internet: Fees, Equipment, and Final Bill

To cancel Viasat internet service, call customer care at 855-463-9333; there is no online or chat option.1Viasat. Moving Your Viasat Service If you’re still inside a minimum service term, you’ll owe $15 for every month left on the contract.2Viasat. Customer Agreement (Residential) You then have 30 days to return the modem, power supply, and transceiver, or Viasat will bill up to $300 in unreturned-equipment fees.

What to Have Ready Before You Call

Pull up your latest bill or sign into the My Viasat portal first. You’ll need your account number, the full name on the account, and the service address. Having those in front of you gets the identity check done quickly.

While you’re in the portal, check your contract status. Residential plans come with one of three commitment lengths depending on what was offered at your address: month-to-month, a 12-month minimum, or a 24-month minimum.3Viasat. Viasat Residential and Small Business Legal Disclaimers Knowing which one you’re on tells you upfront whether an early termination fee is coming and roughly how much.

Making the Cancellation Call

Dial 855-463-9333 and work through the automated menu to the option for disconnecting service.1Viasat. Moving Your Viasat Service Tell the agent directly that you want to cancel and give them the date you want service to end.

Expect a retention pitch. The agent will ask why you’re leaving and offer discounts or a different plan. If you’ve decided, decline and keep moving. Before you hang up, get a cancellation confirmation number and write it down or screenshot it. That code is your proof the request went through and it anchors the timeline for your final bill and the equipment return window.

Early Termination Fees

Cancel before your minimum term ends and Viasat charges $15 for each remaining month.2Viasat. Customer Agreement (Residential) Ten months left is $150. Eighteen months left is $270. The most you could owe on a 24-month agreement is $360, and only if you quit in the first month.

Three situations change the math:

If you’re not sure which plan you signed up for, the agent handling your cancellation can tell you.

Returning the Equipment

After disconnection, Viasat ships a recovery kit through UPS to your service address. It contains a box and a prepaid label. You have 30 calendar days from your disconnection date to get everything back.4Viasat. Viasat Equipment Return Guide

Three pieces need to go in the box:

  • The modem (the indoor gateway).
  • The power supply and cord.
  • The TRIA, the small transceiver unit bolted to the arm of your outdoor satellite dish.4Viasat. Viasat Equipment Return Guide

The TRIA trips people up. It’s mounted on the boom arm of the dish, so removing it means climbing to wherever the dish is installed. Unplug the modem first, since the coaxial cable carries power to the TRIA, then unbolt the transceiver and detach the coax. If the dish is on your roof and you’d rather not climb up, you can hire a technician, but Viasat won’t send one for free.

Fees for Unreturned or Damaged Equipment

Miss the 30-day window and the charges post to your payment method automatically. The amount depends on which generation of equipment you have:

The same fees apply if the equipment arrives damaged. Pack carefully using the kit materials and keep the UPS tracking receipt. That receipt is your only proof of return if the shipment goes missing.

The Dish Stays on Your Property

Viasat’s customer agreement states that the company has no obligation to remove the satellite dish or its mounting hardware.6Viasat. Customer Agreement (Residential) You can request a paid visit at standard service rates, take it down yourself, or hire someone local. If you’re selling the house, a buyer may want it gone before closing.

Your Final Bill Is Not Prorated

Viasat charges the full monthly service fee for the billing cycle in which you cancel, with no refund for the unused portion.7Viasat. Customer Agreement (Residential) The cheapest time to cancel is at the end of your billing cycle, not the start. Check your billing date in the My Viasat portal and time the call accordingly.

Your final statement will include any remaining balance, the early termination fee if one applies, and the full monthly charge covering the cancellation period. If a card is on file, those amounts are charged automatically. Review the statement, and if anything doesn’t match what the agent quoted or what your contract says, contact Viasat to dispute it. If you paid by credit card and can’t resolve the charge, your card issuer can open a billing dispute.

Active-Duty Military Can Cancel Without a Fee

Under the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act, active-duty military members who receive orders to relocate for 90 days or more to a location Viasat doesn’t serve can cancel without paying an early termination fee. The statute specifically covers internet access contracts.8Office of the Law Revision Counsel. 50 USC 3956 – Termination of Certain Consumer Contracts

Send Viasat written or electronic notice of cancellation along with a copy of your orders. Any unpaid balance from before the cancellation is still owed, but no termination fee applies. Equipment must be returned within 10 days of disconnection rather than 30, and Viasat has to refund any prepaid amounts covering the period after cancellation within 60 days.8Office of the Law Revision Counsel. 50 USC 3956 – Termination of Certain Consumer Contracts

If You’re Moving, Ask About Transferring First

If the reason you’re canceling is a move, transferring service to your new address may avoid the early termination fee entirely. Viasat treats the move as a new account at the new address and issues a new account number, but any balance on the old account has to be paid in full before the new one is activated.1Viasat. Moving Your Viasat Service

Call customer care and ask specifically about your contract obligations before you commit. Viasat’s own guidance tells customers to “ask Customer Care or your Viasat dealer about contract requirements” when moving.1Viasat. Moving Your Viasat Service A transfer only helps if Viasat covers the new address and the plans available there work for you. If not, you’re back to canceling and paying the fee.
