How to Cancel Verizon TV but Keep Internet: Bill, Equipment, Wi-Fi

To cancel Verizon TV but keep internet, contact Verizon by phone at 1-800-VERIZON, through the My Verizon website, or via chat, and specify that you want to remove only the television portion of your service. Your internet stays active, you pick a standalone speed tier, and you have 30 days to return the leased TV equipment before unreturned-gear charges hit your account. Internet-only Fios plans start at $59.99 per month for 300 Mbps, dropping to $49.99 with Auto Pay and lower still if you also have Verizon mobile.1Verizon. Verizon Fios Fiber-Optic Internet

Before You Call

Pull up a recent bill and find your account number at the top of the page. You’ll also need your four-digit Account PIN, which Verizon uses to verify you.2Verizon. Keeping Your Account Safe From Fraud FAQs Forgotten it? Reset it in the My Verizon app before you make the call.

Then check whether your plan carries a contract. If it does, the early termination fee starts at a maximum of $350 and drops by $15 for each month you’ve already completed.3Verizon. How to Disconnect Your Verizon Fios Service Eighteen months into a 24-month term leaves about $80 on the hook. Many current Fios plans have no contract, so there’s nothing to pay. Your plan details in My Verizon will show whether a commitment period applies.

Making the Request

Verizon offers three ways to remove TV while leaving internet in place:3Verizon. How to Disconnect Your Verizon Fios Service

  • Phone: 1-800-VERIZON (1-800-837-4966), Monday through Friday 8 AM to 7 PM ET, Saturday 8 AM to 5 PM ET.
  • My Verizon online: sign in and use the plan management option on the Account Dashboard or Account Settings page.
  • Chat: sign in to My Verizon, open the chat window, and type “Cancel” to reach a live agent.

Be explicit that you want to keep internet and only remove television. The system treats a full disconnection very differently from a plan change, and an ambiguous request can shut off everything. When it’s done, ask for a confirmation number, or save the chat transcript. If TV charges reappear on next month’s bill, that reference is what gets it fixed.

Expect a retention offer. A representative will likely pitch a promotional bundle rate. Walking in with your target internet-only speed already chosen keeps the conversation short. Occasionally the offer is genuinely competitive, so it’s worth hearing the number before declining.

What Your New Bill Will Look Like

Once TV is gone, your monthly cost comes down to which internet tier you pick. Verizon’s current standalone Fios rates are:1Verizon. Verizon Fios Fiber-Optic Internet

  • 300 Mbps: $59.99 per month
  • 500 Mbps: $84.99 per month
  • 1 Gig: $99.99 per month
  • 2 Gig: $119.99 per month

Enroll in Auto Pay with a bank account or Verizon Visa Card and those numbers drop. Add a Verizon mobile line and they drop further. With both stacked, the 300 Mbps tier can run as low as $20 per month.1Verizon. Verizon Fios Fiber-Optic Internet Fios home internet plans carry no monthly data caps.

A few line-item changes are easy to miss when you compare the old bundled bill against the new one:

The Auto Pay discount shrinks. The Auto Pay and paper-free billing discount is $20 per month when you have both internet and TV. On internet-only it becomes $10 per month.4Verizon. Fios Auto Pay Sign Up and Discount FAQs That’s $10 back on top of whatever your new standalone rate is. Compare post-discount totals, not sticker prices.

The router rental doesn’t go away. Verizon charges $15 per month for their router, whether you’re on a bundle or internet-only. Bundle customers often don’t notice it inside a larger bill. On a $49.99 plan it becomes conspicuous. Once TV is off, you can connect your own router to the Optical Network Terminal (the small box where fiber enters the home) and skip the rental. A consumer router at $80 to $150 pays for itself inside a year.

Broadcast and regional sports fees disappear. These surcharges rode along with TV service and could add $20 or more per month. They come off immediately. Factor them into your before-and-after math so you’re measuring real savings.

Return the TV Equipment Within 30 Days

This is where the money gets lost. You have 30 days after TV is removed to return every leased TV device before unreturned-equipment fees hit.5Verizon. Router Equipment Return and Policy The charges are steep: $375 for a Fios TV One or video media server box, $115 for a video media client or Fios TV One Mini, and $90 for a Fios TV+ box.6Verizon. Fios TV Rate Card and Plans Multiple boxes across rooms add up quickly.

The simplest return route is the nearest UPS Store. No boxing required. Staff scan the serial numbers, package the devices, and ship them to Verizon at no cost to you.5Verizon. Router Equipment Return and Policy Get the printed receipt with tracking before you leave. That’s your proof if Verizon’s system is slow to update or a dispute surfaces later.

Gather everything TV-related: set-top boxes, power cords, remotes, secondary adapters. Missing items trigger individual charges. Your internet router and the ONT on the wall stay put; they belong to the internet service. Before you head to UPS, write down the model and serial number on each device sticker so you have your own record next to the store receipt.

What Happens to Your Home Network

A technician visit usually isn’t required. The ONT stays where it is and keeps delivering internet through its Ethernet port. If your existing setup ran the internet signal over coaxial cable to a Verizon router, Verizon may need to remotely activate the Ethernet port on the ONT. That’s typically handled during the same call that removes TV, but confirm it before you hang up.

With TV gone, you no longer need the Verizon router for guide or DVR features. Any compatible Wi-Fi router plugs into the ONT’s Ethernet port, and the $15 monthly rental comes off. Verizon tech support can still remotely restart the ONT, but they won’t troubleshoot a third-party router’s configuration. For most people comfortable with basic router setup, that’s an acceptable tradeoff.

If You Still Want Live TV

Verizon offers a discounted YouTube TV subscription to Fios Home Internet customers. New YouTube TV subscribers pay $62.99 per month for the first six months, then $82.99 per month at the standard rate.7Verizon. YouTube TV The charge lands on your Verizon bill. Existing internet customers can add it, not just new signups.

Whether it saves money depends on what the TV portion of your old bundle actually cost. If TV plus surcharges and equipment ran $80 or more per month, even the post-promotional YouTube TV price comes out ahead, and cloud DVR storage is unlimited with no hardware to return later. If your old TV package was under $60, the numbers are closer, and other streaming services are worth pricing first.
