To cancel an Amazon subscription, sign in and open Your Memberships and Subscriptions from the account menu, find the service, click Manage Subscription, then Cancel Subscription under Advanced Controls. That path covers most recurring charges Amazon bills you for, including Prime Video channels, app subscriptions, and magazines.1Amazon. Manage Your Amazon Subscriptions A handful of services (Audible, Kindle Unlimited, Amazon Music Unlimited, Alexa+) use their own settings pages, and anything you originally signed up for through the Apple App Store or Google Play has to be canceled there, not through Amazon.
Getting the path right matters, because the most common reason a charge reappears the following month is that the cancellation was started in the wrong place and never actually confirmed.
The Default Cancellation Path
Your Memberships and Subscriptions lists every active, canceled, and expired subscription tied to your account, with renewal dates and pricing. Open the one you want to end, click Manage Subscription, then look for Cancel Subscription under Advanced Controls.1Amazon. Manage Your Amazon Subscriptions
Amazon will try to keep you before it processes the cancellation. Expect a screen offering a discounted rate or a free extension. Keep clicking through until you reach a final confirmation that reads something like “Cancel on [date]” or shows your subscription end date. Nothing is canceled until that screen appears.
For Prime Video add-on channels, there is a second route: inside Prime Video, open Account & Settings, choose Your subscriptions, find the channel, and select Unsubscribe.2Amazon Prime Video. Cancel Your Prime Video Add-On Subscription Either route works.
Canceling From the Amazon App
Open the Amazon shopping app, tap the profile icon, go to Your Account, and choose Memberships & Subscriptions. Tap the subscription, work through the sub-menus, and confirm. The change syncs to your account immediately, so you don’t need to repeat it on a computer.
One trap catches people constantly: deleting an Amazon app from your phone does not cancel the subscription. Audible spells this out in its own help documentation, and the principle applies to every digital service.3Audible. Cancel membership You can wipe every Amazon-related app off your device and the billing will continue until you formally cancel through account settings.
Services With Their Own Cancellation Pages
Several Amazon-owned subscriptions either don’t appear on the standard Memberships page or require you to cancel from a service-specific settings screen.
Kindle Unlimited
Go to Manage Your Kindle Unlimited Membership (also called Kindle Unlimited Central), sign in, and choose Cancel membership under Your Membership. Access continues until the next billing date, after which you lose any titles you have checked out. Amazon Music Unlimited
Open Your Amazon Music Settings, find the Amazon Music Unlimited section, and select Cancel within the Subscription Renewal details. Confirm on the next screen. On an Alexa device you can also say, “Alexa, cancel my Amazon Music Unlimited subscription,” and it handles the request.5Amazon. Cancel Your Amazon Music Unlimited Subscription
Audible
Audible runs on its own site. On desktop, click your username in the top navigation, open Account Details, and click Cancel membership. On mobile web, open the main menu, tap your account, and choose Cancel membership. You will click through multiple Continue prompts before reaching the actual confirmation page.3Audible. Once you cancel, you lose unused credits and access to the Plus Catalog at the end of your final billing cycle. Audiobooks you bought outright with credits or a card stay in your library.3Audible. Cancel membership
Alexa+
Tell an Alexa device, “End Alexa+.” Household members can turn Alexa+ off on their own profile without affecting the primary account holder’s subscription.6Amazon. Cancel Your Alexa+ Subscription
When Apple or Google Is the Biller
If you originally signed up through the Apple App Store or Google Play, Amazon cannot cancel the subscription for you. Audible confirms that memberships billed through Apple or Google can’t be canceled on the Audible website at all.3Audible. Cancel membership
On an iPhone or iPad, open Settings, tap your name, tap Subscriptions, choose the subscription, and tap Cancel Subscription. On a Mac, open the App Store, click your name, go to Account Settings, scroll to Subscriptions, and click Manage.7Apple Support. If you want to cancel a subscription from Apple
Not sure which platform bills you? Check your bank or card statement. A charge from Apple or Google, rather than Amazon, means you cancel through that platform.
Retention Offers, and How Not To Restart By Accident
When you click cancel, Amazon usually presents a discounted renewal or free extension before letting you finish. If you accept, the discounted price applies from your next renewal for whatever period the offer covers. You’re eligible for one retention offer per subscription within any 12-month window, and only on full-price subscriptions. Free trial and promotional users don’t see them. If you actually want to cancel, don’t click anything labeled “accept” or “keep.” Click through every screen until you see a clear confirmation that the subscription is ending on a specific date.
Pausing Instead of Canceling
Some services let you pause billing rather than end it. Kindle Unlimited allows a one-month pause that begins at the end of your current billing cycle. You can’t pause during a free trial or promotional rate.4Amazon Customer Service. Cancel Your Kindle Unlimited Subscription
Amazon Prime itself also offers a pause. Billing stops at the end of the current cycle and you lose Prime benefits until you resume. Subscriptions tied to Prime, including certain Prime Video channels, also end while the membership is paused. Amazon Photos data stays intact and comes back when you resume.
Refunds
Whether you get money back depends on the service and how recently you were charged.
For Prime Video add-on channels, Amazon may offer a self-service refund during cancellation. Accepting it ends access immediately rather than at the end of the cycle. For a paid Prime membership, a full refund is available if you have not used any Prime benefits since your most recent charge. Amazon processes those refunds in three to five business days.10Amazon. Cancel Your Amazon Prime Membership
Business Prime uses the same rule: a full refund only if no eligible purchases were made and no Business Prime benefits used since the last charge. Memberships redeemed through gift or promotional codes are not refundable.11Amazon. Business Prime Terms and Conditions
After You Cancel
Most subscriptions keep working until the end of the period you already paid for. The end date appears on the confirmation screen, and Amazon sends a confirmation email. You can reverse the cancellation any time before that date if you change your mind.9Amazon. Cancel Your Prime Video Add-On Subscription
After the end date, no further charges should hit your payment method for that service. Content you bought outright, like individual movies, TV episodes, or audiobooks purchased with credits, stays in your library. Subscription-only access, like the Kindle Unlimited catalog or Audible’s Plus Catalog, ends when the cycle runs out.3Audible. Cancel membership
If a charge appears after you confirmed the cancellation, open Your Memberships and Subscriptions first and verify that the cancellation actually went through. For a charge from a third-party merchant processed through Amazon Pay, the path is different: sign in at the Amazon Pay help page, find the transaction on your Activity page, click Details & Support, and contact the merchant using the email listed under Business Details.12Amazon Pay. Business Prime Works Differently
Business Prime is not canceled from the standard Memberships & Subscriptions page. Only a business account administrator can end it, and they do so through Business Settings.11Amazon. Business Prime Terms and Conditions Regular employees on the account can’t cancel it on their own.
Canceling Business Prime may cut off access to all associated benefits and any data stored by those features immediately, rather than at the end of the cycle. Auto-renewal continues automatically unless you notify Amazon before the next charge that you want to cancel.11Amazon. Business Prime Terms and Conditions
Stopping the Charge Through Your Bank
If you have already canceled through Amazon and charges keep coming, federal law gives you a backup. You can stop a preauthorized electronic fund transfer by notifying your bank up to three business days before the next scheduled charge.
