How to Cancel Subscriptions on Cash App: Disputes and Stop-Payment

To cancel a subscription on Cash App, open the app and find the recurring charge in your Activity feed or Cash Card section, revoke the merchant’s authorization there, and then cancel the subscription directly with the merchant through their own account settings. Both steps matter. Blocking the payment in Cash App stops the charge from going through, but it doesn’t end your agreement with the service, and an unpaid balance can still be sent to collections.

Find the Charge First

Open Cash App and tap the Activity tab on the home screen. Scroll through the chronological list and look for repeated charges from the same merchant at regular intervals. Write down the exact merchant name, the amount, and the billing frequency. You’ll need those details for every step that follows.

Then tap the Cash Card icon on the main screen. This section can show vendors that have been granted authorization to pull funds automatically from your card. Checking both places gives you a full picture, because a subscription paid through Cash App Pay (the QR-code and tap-to-pay checkout method) won’t necessarily show up the same way as one charged to your Cash Card number.1Cash App. Cash App Pay

Cancel Inside Cash App

To revoke a recurring charge linked to your Cash Card, go to the Cash Card dashboard and look for the option related to recurring payments or active subscriptions. When the list of authorized merchants appears, select the one you want to stop. Use the toggle or cancellation button to revoke the merchant’s ability to charge your card going forward.

After you confirm, the merchant’s status should update to inactive, and you may receive a confirmation notification. Save a screenshot. If you don’t see a subscription management option for that merchant, the charge was likely set up through Cash App Pay or routed through the merchant’s own billing system, and you’ll need to handle it on the merchant’s side.

Cancel With the Merchant Too

Go to the subscription service’s website or app, log in, and find billing, membership, or subscription settings. Submit the cancellation request and save any confirmation number or email you get back.

This second step is the one people skip, and it’s the one that causes trouble. Revoking a payment method in Cash App only blocks the merchant from charging that specific card. It does not terminate your contractual agreement with the service. If you signed up with a minimum term or a required cancellation notice, blocking the payment doesn’t release you from those obligations. The merchant can treat a missed payment as a breach of contract and send the balance to collections or pursue it in small claims court. Formally canceling through the merchant’s own system is the only way to end the agreement.

If Charges Keep Coming, File a Dispute

When a merchant keeps charging you after you’ve canceled on both sides, dispute the transaction with Cash App.2Cash App. Dispute a Cash App Card Transaction

Your Federal Stop-Payment Right

Because the Cash Card is a prepaid debit card, recurring charges are governed by the Electronic Fund Transfer Act and Regulation E, not the Fair Credit Billing Act that applies to credit cards.

Under federal law, you can stop any preauthorized recurring electronic transfer by notifying your financial institution at least three business days before the next scheduled charge.3Office of the Law Revision Counsel. 15 USC 1693e – Preauthorized Transfers The notice can be oral or written. The institution may ask you to follow up in writing within 14 days, and if it does and you don’t, the oral stop-payment order expires after those 14 days.4eCFR. 12 CFR 1005.10 – Preauthorized Transfers

If you report an unauthorized charge or an error, Regulation E requires the institution to investigate within 10 business days and report results within three business days of finishing. The investigation can be extended to 45 days, but only if the institution provisionally credits your account within the initial 10 business days. Any confirmed error must be corrected within one business day of that determination.5eCFR. 12 CFR 1005.11 – Procedures for Resolving Errors

Keep records of every cancellation step: the Cash App confirmation screen, the merchant’s cancellation email, and the dates. The 60-day dispute window is firm, so act on an unexpected charge as soon as you see it rather than waiting to see whether it repeats.
