Written Notice by Mail
For a formal record, mail a cancellation notice to RentPlus at 91 E 700 S, Logan, Utah 84321, addressed to “RentPlus Attn: RentPlus Service Change.”5RentCafe. RentPlus Addendum Include your full name, property address, and any account details you have. Send it with delivery confirmation so you can prove the arrival date if a billing dispute comes up.
Timing, Fees, and Refunds
RentPlus charges $8.95 per month for individuals and $14.95 per household. After your first month of service, those charges are non-refundable, so there’s no prorated refund if you cancel partway through a billing cycle. Submit your cancellation at least ten days before the end of the current month; miss that window and you’ll be billed for the following month with no refund available.1Entrata Legal. New subscribers get the first month as a grace period during which you can opt out without paying. After that closes, every month’s fee is final once it’s charged.
If RentPlus Is Bundled Into Your Lease
Some property management companies roll RentPlus into the lease as a mandatory add-on rather than letting tenants sign up individually. If your rent ledger includes a RentPlus line item you never enrolled in separately, the fee flows through your landlord’s billing system rather than directly through RentPlus, so cancellation takes an extra step.
Check your lease and any move-in addenda first. The standard RentPlus addendum lets tenants opt out at any time, for any reason, by using the portal or sending written notice.5RentCafe. RentPlus Addendum Then notify your property manager directly so they remove the line item from your rent ledger. Canceling with RentPlus alone may stop credit reporting, but the charge can persist on your rent statement if the property management software isn’t updated to match.
What Happens to Your Credit History
Canceling RentPlus does not erase the positive payment history already reported. RentPlus reports on-time rent payments to Experian, Equifax, TransUnion, or all three, depending on your property management company’s contract.6RentPlus. RentPlus – Section: FAQs Once those payments are on your credit file, they belong to the credit bureaus.
When the service stops, the rent tradeline shows as “closed” with a closure date. Closed accounts still count toward the age of your credit history, so you don’t lose that benefit. What you do lose is forward-looking reporting: new on-time payments won’t post after cancellation. If your credit profile is still thin, weigh whether the monthly fee is worth keeping until you have enough other credit history to stand on its own.
Confirming the Cancellation Worked
Don’t assume the request went through just because you submitted it. Take a few steps to verify:
- Get written confirmation. Whether you canceled online, by phone, or by mail, you should receive a confirmation email or reference number. Save it. If you called, ask the agent to email you the cancellation date.
- Check your next bank statement. Given the ten-day lead time, a charge that appears right after your request may still be legitimate if you cut it close. A charge the month after that is not.
- Notify your property manager if RentPlus was billed through your lease, and confirm the line item is off your rent ledger. Property management platforms don’t always sync with third-party cancellations automatically.
Disputing Charges After You Cancel
If RentPlus charges you after cancellation, start with support at 855-388-5314 or support@rentplus.com and give them your confirmation number.4RentPlus. RentPlus Most post-cancellation charges are administrative lag, and support can typically reverse them.
If RentPlus won’t reverse a charge pulled directly from your checking account, contact your bank. Federal rules on electronic fund transfers cap your liability for unauthorized charges at $50 if you report the problem within two business days of discovering it, or $500 if you report within 60 days of receiving the statement that shows it. After 60 days, you could be liable for the full amount.7Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. 12 CFR 1005.6 – Liability of Consumer for Unauthorized Transfers Check your statements promptly and don’t sit on an erroneous charge.
If the charge hit a credit card instead of a bank account, call your card issuer, explain the charge was unauthorized, and provide your cancellation confirmation. Card issuers handle these reversals routinely.
