How to Cancel Petco Vital Care and Turn Off Auto-Renew

To cancel Petco Vital Care Premier, turn off auto-renew through your account on petco.com, the Petco app, or by calling 858-657-2035. That stops the subscription from rolling into another year, but it does not end your current 12-month commitment. You’ll keep being billed monthly through the rest of your annual term, and Petco does not issue refunds.1Petco. Vital Care Premier Terms and Conditions

What Cancellation Actually Means

Premier is structured as a 12-month contract that auto-renews. When you cancel, you’re telling Petco not to renew for another year once your current term ends. You are not stopping the payments that remain in your existing term. There is no built-in option to cancel today and stop paying mid-cycle.2Petco. Petco Vital Care Membership

Because the cancellation only blocks renewal, timing within the term doesn’t matter much. Whether you flip the switch in month three or month eleven, you keep paying through month twelve and then billing stops. The only real risk in waiting is forgetting and getting rolled into another year.

Cancel Through the App or Website

Log into your account on petco.com or in the Petco mobile app. Open your Vital Care Premier dashboard, find the auto-renew setting, and switch it off. Petco’s terms confirm you can cancel “by visiting the Vital Care Premier tab in your Vital Care account setting on Petco.com, or by following the instructions in the Petco app.”1Petco. Cancel by Phone

Call Vital Care Premier customer service at 858-657-2035. The line runs 6 AM to 6 PM Pacific.3Petco. Contact Us – Petco Have the phone number or email tied to your account ready. Ask the representative to confirm the date your term ends and request an email confirmation you can save.

An older phone number, 855-244-6450, still circulates on some third-party guides. It appears to be outdated. The number listed on Petco’s current contact page and in its terms is 858-657-2035.

What Happens After You Cancel

Your subscription continues through the end of your 12-month term. You keep getting charged monthly, and every Premier benefit stays active until that anniversary date. Use them. Book any remaining routine vet exams at Vetco Total Care, apply your nutrition and grooming discounts, and redeem your monthly reward credits before the term closes.

Once the anniversary hits, your account drops to Vital Care Core, Petco’s free loyalty tier. You keep the basic account and can still earn points on purchases, but the Premier-specific perks end.

No Refunds

Petco’s terms are blunt: “We do not offer full or partial refunds for our Subscription program.”1Petco. Vital Care Premier Terms and Conditions Payments already charged are not prorated or returned. Cancel on day two of a billing cycle and you still have access through the cycle and the rest of the annual term, but nothing comes back.

Your Reward Balance

Vital Care Rewards and points sitting in your account don’t disappear when you cancel, but they expire on their own clock. Under Petco’s rewards terms, points and Vital Care Rewards expire one year from the date they were earned, on a rolling 12-month basis.4Petco. Petco Pay Terms and Conditions Check your balance in the app and spend what you have before it lapses.

Finding Your Anniversary Date

The date that matters is your annual anniversary processing date, listed on your Vital Care Premier dashboard. That’s when the subscription would renew for another 12 months at the current monthly rate, which may be higher than what you originally signed up for.5Petco. Vital Care Premier Terms and Conditions Auto-renew has to be off before that date. Miss it by a day and you’re locked into another full year. Setting a calendar reminder about 30 days out gives you a buffer.

Getting Out Before Your Term Ends

Petco’s written terms do not describe a way to stop billing mid-term. The contract is a 12-month obligation, and the cancellation mechanism only blocks the next renewal.

Some subscribers report calling customer service and getting released early because of circumstances like the loss of a pet, rehoming, or moving away from any nearby Petco. Representatives may have internal discretion to handle these situations, but early release is not a right written into the terms. Call 858-657-2035, explain the situation clearly, and keep records of what the representative tells you.

Disputing charges with your bank or credit card company is tempting but risky. A chargeback does not formally cancel the subscription on Petco’s end. You can end up with an account in bad standing, continued billing attempts, and a balance potentially sent to collections. Exhaust customer service first.

Canceling One Pet on a Multi-Pet Account

Each pet on a multi-pet account has its own Premier subscription and can be managed independently. To cancel one plan while keeping the others, call 858-657-2035 and tell the representative which pet’s membership you want to stop. Have your account number ready and be specific, especially if you have more than one pet of the same species.

Dropping a plan can change the pricing on what remains. Petco applies a $2-per-month discount on each plan when more than one is enrolled, so going from two pets to one may raise the surviving plan by $2 per month.6Petco. Vital Care – About Petco

Deciding Whether to Cancel

Before you cancel, pull up your dashboard and compare what you’ve paid against what you’ve actually redeemed. Dog and cat plans run about $300 per year, and the monthly reward credits alone are worth $180 over that year on those plans.6Petco. Vital Care – About Petco Add unlimited routine vet exams at Vetco Total Care and the nutrition and grooming discounts, and heavy users of Petco services often come out ahead. Occasional shoppers usually don’t. That comparison is a better guide than any general rule about whether Premier is worth keeping.
