How to Cancel Norton Subscription: Refunds, Support, and App Stores

To cancel a Norton subscription, turn off auto-renewal in your Norton account, contact Norton support, or cancel through the Apple App Store, Google Play, or Microsoft Store if that’s where you bought it. The right route depends entirely on where the original purchase happened. Norton bills on a recurring cycle, so uninstalling the software does nothing to stop the charges. You have to actively cancel before your next renewal date.

Figure Out Where You Bought Norton

This is the step people skip, and skipping it wastes hours. Subscriptions bought directly from Norton’s website or from a retail store are managed inside your Norton account. Subscriptions bought as in-app purchases through the Apple App Store, Google Play Store, or Microsoft Store can only be canceled inside that store’s subscription settings.1Norton Support. Cancel the Norton Plan In-App Purchase from Apple App Store, Google Play Store, or Microsoft Store Norton’s portal has no power over app store billing.

If you’re not sure, search your email for the original purchase confirmation and see who charged you. Before you start, have the email tied to your Norton account, your sign-in credentials, and if possible the order number from the confirmation email. For a boxed retail copy, find the 25-character subscription key from the packaging or receipt.2Norton. Cancel Through Norton’s Website

If you bought directly from Norton, this is the quickest path. Sign in at my.norton.com and work through these steps:

  • Click My Account, then select My Subscriptions from the dropdown.
  • Find the subscription you want to cancel and click Cancel Subscription Renewal or Manage Renewal beneath it.
  • Next to Plan Renewal, click Unsubscribe.
  • Choose a reason for canceling and click Next.
  • Norton will offer discounts and alternative plans to keep you. If you still want to cancel, click “No thanks, cancel my subscription,” then Next.
  • A confirmation message appears. Allow up to 24 hours for the change to reflect in your account.

Your subscription stays active through the end of the period you’ve already paid for, but it won’t renew.3Norton. Norton Cancellation and Refund Policy Save the confirmation email. That’s your proof if a charge shows up later.

Cancel by Contacting Norton Support

If the portal isn’t cooperating, or you’d rather have someone else handle it, contact Norton support through the “Contact us” link on the cancellation policy page. A live agent can process the cancellation and, if you qualify, a refund in the same interaction.3Norton. Norton Cancellation and Refund Policy Have your account email and order number ready, since the agent has to verify your identity before making changes. This route is especially useful when you want a refund alongside the cancellation.

Cancel Through the Apple App Store

If you subscribed on an iPhone or iPad through the App Store, Norton cannot cancel for you. Go through Apple:

  • Open the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad.
  • Tap your name at the top.
  • Tap Subscriptions.
  • Tap the Norton subscription.
  • Tap Cancel Subscription.

If there’s no Cancel button, or you see an expiration message in red text, the subscription is already canceled.4Apple Support. If You Want to Cancel a Subscription from Apple Access continues until the current billing period ends. Any refund on an App Store purchase goes through Apple, not Norton.2Norton. Cancel Through Google Play

For Norton subscriptions bought through Google Play, you have two routes to the same result. Open the Google Play app, go to subscriptions, select Norton, and tap Cancel subscription. Or open your device’s Settings, tap Google, then your name, then Manage your Google Account, and go to Payments & subscriptions to cancel from there.5Google Play Help. Cancel, Pause, or Change a Subscription on Google Play

One thing trips people up constantly: deleting the Norton app from your phone does nothing to stop billing. The subscription lives in your Google or Apple account, not in the app. Until you cancel through the store’s subscription settings, the charges continue.

If You Can’t Access Your Norton Account

Losing access to the email tied to your account is common, especially for subscriptions that have been auto-renewing for years on an old address. On the sign-in page you can request a one-time passcode by email or SMS, which works if you still have the phone number on file. You can also sign in with Google, Apple, or Microsoft credentials if any are linked to your Norton account.6Norton Support. Recovering Your Norton Account

If none of that works because the email is dead, contact Norton support directly. An agent can verify your identity through other means and help you regain access or cancel outright. Don’t let a lost inbox become the reason you keep paying.

Getting a Refund After You Cancel

Norton’s refund policy depends on whether the plan is annual or monthly. Annual subscriptions come with a 60-day money-back guarantee. You can get a full refund within 60 days of the purchase date, and each subsequent annual renewal charge also qualifies for a full refund within 60 days of that charge.2Norton. Norton Annual and Monthly Subscription Refunds

Monthly subscriptions are far more restrictive. You can request a full refund within 14 days of the initial purchase, but subsequent monthly renewal charges do not qualify for a refund at all.2Norton. Norton Annual and Monthly Subscription Refunds This catches many monthly subscribers off guard. A renewal month you didn’t want is usually not recoverable through Norton’s official process.

To request a refund, contact Norton support through the link on the cancellation policy page. Money goes back to the original payment method. Norton says requests are “processed in a few days” but doesn’t commit to a specific timeline.3Norton. Retail purchases go through Norton support rather than the store; you’ll need the 25-character subscription key and your original receipt, and the same 60-day annual guarantee applies.2Norton. What Happens After Cancellation

Canceling auto-renewal doesn’t immediately shut off your protection. The software keeps working through the end of the period you’ve paid for. After that date, virus definitions stop updating, real-time scanning stops, and features like the Norton VPN and password manager become inaccessible.

If your plan includes cloud backup, files stored in Norton’s cloud remain accessible only while the subscription is active. Once it fully expires, those backups become inaccessible. Download anything important before the paid period ends. The same applies to passwords in Norton’s vault; export them to another manager before you cancel.

For plans that include LifeLock identity monitoring, alerts and credit notifications stop when the subscription expires. Norton’s privacy statement governs how long personal data is retained after cancellation. If you want your data deleted, you may need to submit a separate request through their privacy center.

Your Rights Under the FTC Click-to-Cancel Rule

The Federal Trade Commission finalized a click-to-cancel rule in October 2024 that requires sellers to make canceling a subscription as easy as signing up. The rule prohibits companies from making cancellation unnecessarily difficult and requires a simple mechanism to cancel and immediately stop charges.8Federal Trade Commission.
